Chapter 10

Hermione stared at him. She couldn’t do anything else. His focus hadn’t changed one bit. She got up and half ran down a rarely used aisle. She could smell the dust from the shelves that remained untouched for long periods of time.

It was only a few moments before he was behind her but when he smiled she lit into him. “What does that mean?” She demanded.

“You mean the story?” He asked.

“Yes, Malfoy the story, what did you mean by that?” She asked again trying to control her temper.

“I would think it’s obvious what it means and since when are we back to Malfoy?” He asked.

“What are you trying to say by putting that in the book?” She asked.

“That sometimes reality is just as good as fantasy.” He said moving closer.

Hermione looked at him with blazing eyes. “Are you out of your fucking mind!” She yelled in a whisper.

Draco’s eyes flew open and he looked at Hermione as if she had just sprouted a second head. “What?”

“What on earth can you be thinking? Our houses have never gotten along. The last time a Gryffindor or Slytherin did anything together voluntarily was when Godric and Salazar were still friends. What can you be thinking? We can’t possibly carry on in anyway other than in secret.” She said, throwing her arms about wildly.

“Why not?” He said, getting upset. “Give me one good reason why it can’t work, and if you mention the house rivalry again then that just shows you are concerned with what people think or say about you more then you want.”

She took a step and stood chest to chest with him, standing on her toes while her words were as harsh as she could get. “Oh and I suppose you would be running around to tell your whole house how you are shagging the mud blood.” He winced at her word, since he didn’t like using it anymore. “Or maybe that would be an achievement wouldn’t it.”

“Stop it Hermione, you know I don’t think that way anymore.” He said glaring down at her.

“You are a fine one to accuse me of caring what the student populace thinks. What about you?” He stepped back and looked at him. “You have been just as secretive about what happened as me. Have you told anyone about the notebook? Have you even spoken to me in public? Have you let any of your housemates seen you in my company? Even today, you took a table at the other side of the library.” She jammed a finger in his chest. “Don’t you dare tell me that this could work when you have given no indication otherwise.”

“Listen Hermione, things with us haven’t started out well, I admit, we both have made nasty comments over the years. Look at us now, we get on better. Much better I’d say.” He said with lifted eyebrows. “We just have to take things further. I’m willing to if you are.”

“Willing is not the issue here, the issue is the reaction and consequences.” She said. “Can you handle them?”

“Yes.” He said firmly and without pause. “Can you?”

She faced him with fire in her eyes. “I’m a Gryffindor, I can handle anything.” She said. He didn’t say anything, he just grinned. She relaxed and returned his smug grin. “You want something from this Malfoy, fine.”

He lowered his lids. “There’s a catch.” He said.

“You make the first move.” She said. “You’re the one who wants to make fantasy a reality.” She turned and walked away then looked over her shoulder. “In public.” She said then left, leaving him standing there. He took only a few moments, then left the aisle. Her table had been cleared and she was gone.

He had to make the move in public did he? Well, he could do that. He had to find the right time and place, so they would end up staying together. It would be pointless if it was after class. People would just think it was a dare or something. If he made a move and she had no choice but to stay at his side or respond then it would prove a point to everyone, but her mostly.

He thought hard that night, planning and scheming. He was a Slytherin after all and Slytherins schemed better then anyone. She gave him the assignment of starting this, so he would start it.

He found the perfect opportunity. Care of Magical Creatures class. Hagrid didn’t care about couples showing affection as long as it didn’t disrupt class. So many couples held hands and draped arms during the lesson when notes weren’t required.

The class was on it’s way to the clearing Hagrid chose for the unicorns and Draco purposely fell behind so he would be the last to arrive. He saw his target, leaning against a fence. The rest of the class was watching Hagrid bring in the unicorns.

He dropped his bag on the ground and walked right up to her, stepping behind her and wrapping his arms around her waist. He heard a gasp or two behind him and a few whispers as Hermione turned her head and looked to see who was holding her.

He leaned down and kissed her cheek, then lifted an eyebrow as Hagrid began speaking. She didn’t pull away, she just let him hold her through the lecture. When it came time to approach the animals and the fence disappeared Draco slipped his hand into hers and walked with her as they moved closer.

“What are you doing?” She asked as they stroked the silvery mane of a female unicorn.

He grinned at her under the animals muzzle. “Just what you asked me to.” He said winking.

She smiled back and turned her attention back to the animal. When class as over, Draco fetched both their bags and shouldered them, taking her hand.

“Your housemates are staring at you.” She said as they walked together hand in hand to the castle.

“So are yours.” He said. They ignored the looks they got and went to the library. When it was time for dinner. Draco gave her bag back. “Should we sit together or would that be too much for everyone to take.”

“I can guarantee a million questions from Harry and Ron alone, and from the looks being thrown at me, your own friends want to begin an inquisition.”

“I figured.” He leaned down and kissed her. A light quick gentle kiss, but right on her sweet lips. “I could dine on those tonight.” He said with a smile and went to his table when he was surrounded by fellow Slytherins.

Hermione went to her own interrogation. But she went with a smile.

The following months before the finished school Hermione and Draco sought out each others company for both studying sessions and sexual adventures. Eventually the talk died down and everyone concentrated on passing end of years exams.

Hermione and Draco avoided talk of the future. Neither of them wanted to talk of what might or might not happen when school ended. What would they do? Where would they meet?

Hermione knew from word of mouth that Draco’s father was not happy with the situation, but Draco made no move to end it. Whatever relationship he had with his father was his business.

She lay on her stomach, naked resting her chin on her folded arms. Draco was writing his name across the small of her back with his tongue. He was naked as well, resting his weight between her thighs. Her calves and ankles hugged his waist.

“Are you writing a rough draft of your Ministry application?” She joked.

“Maybe.” He planted a rough kiss on her tailbone and rose up climbing over her until his chest rested in her back and his cock was nestled between her ass cheeks.

“I need to get back.” She said, but she didn’t move.

“We need to talk Hermione.” He said, and she gave an audible groan.

“Why?” She asked.

“What happens when we graduate?” He asked.

She lifted her head and looked at him. “We gone in with life.” She said simply.

“I meant us Hermione.” He said.

“There won’t be an us Draco.” She said lifting up on her arms and Draco let his body roll off her.

“What do you mean there won’t be an us?” He asked reaching up to grab her arm but she had already risen off the bed and was pulling on her jeans.

“I mean Draco, that it may work here where we live in the same castle, and have the same classes.” She grabbed her bra and wiggled into it. “When we leave here who knows where we will each end up. Do you honestly think things will be the same?” She jerked on her jumped and looked around for her socks.

“No not the same, different, and we made it work here, we can make it work elsewhere.” He said, sitting up.

“Draco, be realistic,” she reached down and grabbed her knickers shoving them in her pocket and grabbing her socks, “a school dalliance is one things but think about it.” She turned and faced him. “Draco I know you have been arguing with your father. Things wont get any easier. They will get much worse.”

Draco looked at her with a stoic face. “Say what you want Hermione.” He said quietly.

“Draco, I would want more then anything to continue seeing you, but we both know we cant go on.” She said.

“Why not?” Draco asked her.

Hermione said nothing, she pulled her shoes on without lacing them and left the room of requirement. Draco let his body fall down on the bed and stared into the ceiling.
