Dealing With Your Inner and Outer Devils

Chapter Ten: Dealing With Your Inner and Outer Devils

Malfoy stayed for three days and the two wizards spent the entire time together. They talked, laughed, blushed and loved, between eating, sleeping and cleaning up afterwards.
When Draco left on Monday morning, he promised to return on the following Friday, if Harry would come with him to several places during the week.
They had lunch on Tuesday with Hagrid and Alberforth, dinner with the Finnigans on Wednesday and Draco insisted on Harry coming to his home Thursday to speak with the elder Malfoys.
Up until the visit with Lucius and Narcissa, everyone was supportive and, in the case of the Finnigans, they even got a conspiratory wink from Seamus before he whispered to Harry, “I knew there was more to the obsession you two had in school. Glad you finally figured it out.”
But, as Draco dragged him by his sleeve through the high ceiling entry to the Manor, Harry had his doubts that he would be welcomed so warmly by these two.
“So, Potter.” Lucius said from his position near the gigantic mantel in the luxurious sitting room. “My son tells me that you have something important to tell me. . . us.” he continued waving to his wife.
“Coward,” Harry griped under his breath before smiling weakly to the elder man. “Perhaps we could sit down,” Harry suggested.
“Oh course, where are my manners? Have a seat, Mr. Potter.” Lucius chopped out.
Draco pushed Harry toward the small sofa where his mother sat and then took the chair nearby. Harry’s courage dipped as they moved apart and Lucius sat opposite him.
“Mr. Malfoy, sir. I’m sure you know that . . .your son and I have never been very good friends . . in school and all.” he began poorly.
“I seem to recall him stating that he hated you.” Lucius sneered gloatingly.
“Yes, well, that is what we’ve always thought, I guess.” Harry said quietly. “You see, we weren’t actually . .enemies. We just had very strong feelings . .very strong.”
“So, hate was a poor choice of words? Intense dislike, perhaps?” the man said, his eyes moving from one to the other.
“Not exactly. More like unrecognized passion . .sir.” Harry blurted and Lucius’ eyes went wide. “We have very strong feelings that we chose to think of as negative. Actually, we care very much for each other.”
“I’m in love with Harry, Father.” Draco said in a definitive voice. Harry wasn’t sure whether to glare at him for cutting him off, or kiss him for finally finding his voice.
Lucius looked shocked, his mouth moving over silent word as if muttering a spell that he expected to fail.
Draco stared him down, waiting for the inevitable storm that blew off the horizon.
Harry was worried, but he didn’t know what to do.
It was Narcissa Malfoy that spoke, breaking the silent tension. “And does Harry share these feelings?” she asked, gracing them with a tepid smile.
“Oh, yes!” Harry answered, his heart in his words.
“Then, there is nothing more to say, except good-night. Oh, and one more thing.” Narcissa said shifting to her feet and placing her hand in Lucius’. “Will you consent to a mother’s request? Take it slowly with this love of yours. Draco should continue to live here and you, well . .” and she waved her hand to indicate the unimportance of Harry’s residence. “And you must both dine with us, here, every Thursday.”
When Lucius allowed himself to be pulled to his feet, Draco rose with him. Harry had been standing since Mrs. Malfoy had risen and when the younger man stepped up to him, he felt stronger.
“We can do that.” he assured him.
His words had an immediate effect on Draco’s father and he turned back to the two young men. “Fine.” He stated, “I can live with the loss of the Malfoy line. But, I’ll have no blatant displays in my house. Do I make myself clear, Mr. Potter?”
Narcissa rolled her eyes at her husband and Harry looked thoughtful.
“Yes, perfectly.” he answered as he started after the couple. At the door to the manor, Harry’s pensive look, that had been bothering Draco, seemed to reach a stress point. “Thank you for your time, Mrs. Malfoy. I shall enjoy visiting here with such wonderful hospitality. Mr. Malfoy, I understand your ‘request’, but I’m afraid it won’t be possible. If you are ever to understand, that won’t help.” Harry said, causing Lucius to go slightly red with anger. “And you, I’ll see tomorrow night.” he told Draco, wrapping an arm around the taller man’s waist and pulling him close for a short, but meaningful, kiss. “I have to go, then. See you next week, Mrs. Malfoy.” he added as he grabbed his broom from the side of a nearby tree on the walkway and rose to the sky.
Draco recovered from the shock of the sudden kiss and turned to his father, “Goodnight, then. Oh, and don’t panic about that Malfoy line. I’m sure some solution will come to you.” and he rushed to the stairs and up to his room.

Harry sat across the table just outside of Florean Fortescue’s watching Ginny stab repeatedly at the banana split she had insisted she had to have and had yet to take a bite of. It looked like banana soup and he was sure it was going into the rubbish eventually.
They hadn’t spoken, not really, other than the few words about weather, family plans and their respective good health.
Harry was quite frustrated.
He took a deep breath.
“Do you even know how worried I was while you were missing?” he said and she looked up.
“How missing did I have to be before you decided you prefer shagging Malfoy, Harry?” Ginny hissed at him. This was what he had expected and been waiting for. “You barely touch me for months, but the minute I’m missing, you spread you legs for the enemy.”
Harry had long ago released the breath, so he drew another. “Ginny, it wasn’t like that. You know we had both decided to wait.” he tried.
“No! You decided to wait, I was being patient.” She snapped.
Harry used his last bit of patience to avoid rolling his eyes. “That was patience? Daily hints about how soft a new potion had made your hair, walking me past the wedding shops and examining your ring finger after doing some dishes, which I happen to know that you mother washed already. And then, the way you talked about Charlie. I know you want everyone in your family happily married, but that was thoughtless.”
“What does Charlie have to do with this?” Ginny nearly screeched in much the way her mother might have.
“I understand how he feels. I have been having these thoughts for quite some time. I wanted to talk to you about them, but your opinion on the matter was fairly obvious, even to me. Especially, the way you talked about Charlie just needing to get married, like he was suffering from lack of female companionship. He is in love, Ginny. He loves Viktor and no woman is going to make that change.”
“And what about you? Are you saying that you are in love with Draco Malfoy?” Ginny sneered. “I was right in front of you, and you turned away, for HIM?”
“Ginny, we weren’t happy. I wasn’t happy. I didn’t want to lock you into a life that was destined to become . . . .sedentary. I thought I wanted that, but it isn’t enough. I needed to move, to do something a little dangerous, to have the excitement. You weren’t there, you can settle down now, because you never had to run, to hide constantly, to live the life I did. I am not trying to belittle your struggles during the war, but it isn’t the same thing, and I need that, a little.”
“So, what about the wand? And your promise to the portrait of Dumbledore? Are you going to get yourself defeated and pass it on?” she observed.
“I am not doing anything dangerous, yet. I haven’t forgotten about the wand. How could I?” Harry responded, keeping his emotions so stilted that he was near to bursting. “I just need to find out why it feels so right, being with him. Please, try to understand. I miss you, I really do. You were one of my best friends, but if you can’t understand, I don’t know you anymore.”
“If letting Draco Malfoy fuck you is who you are, then I never did know you!” Ginny spat before stuffing the spoon into the mess before her and rising. “I wish I could hope for your happiness, but I am not that forgiving. I hope you finally realize what you threw away and try to come crawling back, so that I can laugh in your faggot face!” and she turned and stormed away.
Harry took one last deep breath, storing as much oxygen in his lungs as he could before returning home. He had an appointment on the Monday that would hopefully give his life a new purpose and his weekend was about to begin. He needed a shower and wanted to rest before Draco arrived. Or maybe he could surprise his lover by summoning him, naked from the shower.
Harry smiled for the first time since he had arrived at Diagon Alley.
