Chapter Ten – Lucius’ Requirements

Olivia popped up to his bedroom and finished putting away her purchases from the day’s shopping. She put on her nightgown and slipped into his bed. In her mind, this was now their bedroom.

Two hours later, Lucius apparated directly to his bathroom to take a shower. He came out of the bathroom drying himself off and started to slide into bed. He was astonished to find Olivia there before him. “What in the name of the all the gods are you doing in my bed?” Lucius was tired and cranky after being caught out by his wife and the boring shopping.

“I want to sleep with you at night, not alone in a strange room,” she said simply. She looked at his nude body and started indulging her limited imagination in pleasures he could bring her.

Lucius initially began to tell her to leave, but her obvious interest in his body stopped him. He began to feel a little amorous himself. “If you are going to sleep here tonight, I don’t allow any nightwear in my bed. You stay here, you stay naked.”

“I intend to stay here every night, Lucius.” She didn’t need her empathic skills to see at least part of him was getting interested in her.

“How will I ever get any actual sleep, then? I need to be alert for my Ministry of Magic duties and my businesses,” he retorted, losing ground but gaining inches.

“I’m sure we’ll get some sleep here and there. And maybe you can nap a bit during the day,” she said brightly. She pulled off her nightgown and dropped the sheets to her waist. Lucius’ arguments ended abruptly. He spent another night showing her more of his knowledge base and he had to admit she was a very adept student.

I understand why he calls it ‘doggy style’ she thought to herself the next day, but I can’t touch anything that way. I like the other way better. She made up her mind to avoid ‘doggy style’ unless he particularly wanted her that way.

Lucius, meantime, was congratulating himself on initiating a position where she couldn’t grab anything important without him noticing. He had definitely felt safer last night. And very aroused. He truly enjoyed her adventurous spirit in bed.

At dinner she asked him a question she realized she should have asked much earlier. “Lucius, are we doing anything about birth control?”

“I will never use any contraception spells for us unless there is imminent danger to your health. If you make love to me it’s with the understanding that you may be carrying my child. I said I wanted more heirs.” Lucius’ eyebrow went up as he looked down his nose at her.

“How many heirs would that be?” asked Olivia dryly. She hadn’t missed the ‘for us’ phrase in his answer. Lucius was very precise in his wordings. Were there other women besides her? She expected monogamy on both sides, but that was an issue for later.

“Is there a number past which you will not go? I have no such number,” Lucius said, stung. “I can afford all my children no matter how many there are.”

“But with your first marriage, you only had one child, isn’t that correct? You didn’t use birth control then?”

“Narcissa couldn’t have any more children.”

“Oh. Sorry.” She considered. “So our children would be wanted because you really love children, or because you need to perpetuate your dynasty? You already have a son to carry your name. I would like to understand more on your feelings about children.” She knew Lucius wasn’t terribly close to his son, but she did sense warm feelings about him from his father. She would bet that those warm feelings hadn’t been much disclosed to Draco, though.

Lucius was torn with his answer to that question. He really didn’t want any more hostages to Lord Voldemort. It was difficult enough with Draco’s existence. But he had always regretted not having more children with Narcissa. He had hoped for a large family before he became entangled with the Dark Lord. He had privately envied the Weasleys for their large brood. After Draco’s birth, he had discovered he didn’t seem able to connect well with his child. He had patterned his parenting skill on his father’s, not realizing until too late that he had never been close to his father either, and he had no clue how to show his feelings for Draco. But they were there buried somewhere inside.

Olivia felt the shifting of his emotions over fear, sadness, resignation, warmth, and a bit of hope. She fastened on the warmth and hope. “I love children and I just know I’ll be an enthusiastic mother, so I’m not worried about numbers particularly. But I do hope for a husband who’s fully engaged with his children also. I’d like to be partners with you in parenting. I think it would be wonderful, an additional dimension to our marriage.”

Lucius relaxed a little. With Olivia’s help he could probably be a better father. He was also older than he had been with Draco’s birth. That was perhaps good and bad. He was nearly seventeen years Olivia’s senior. She had just turned twenty-four and he was almost forty-one. He was already feeling the differences in their ages in the bedchamber, but he was so on fire for her, he had kept up so far.

“I will certainly be present as a father to our children.” He hoped that was true. He really didn’t know what the future held for him in Voldemort’s snare.

“So, no contraception spells ever, huh?” Olivia said.

“No. Except for health problems,” he repeated.

“Okay,” she said with a grin, “What are you doing after dinner? Want to make babies?”

Lucius groaned inwardly. But his body was already betraying him – again. He fumed, This thing has a life of its own and it’s going to kill me sooner than later. But Lucius got up from his chair, grabbed for Olivia’s hand and apparated to their bedroom. Did I make a joke about Livvy becoming acquainted with my bedroom ceiling? he silently lamented half an hour later. I’m learning every crack in the plaster. I shouldn’t have introduced her to riding me. Lucius was typically having a hard time giving his wife any control, but Olivia loved it.
