~Chapter Ten: The sting of cupid’s arrows~
In the morning Isis received an owl from Severus while everyone was at breakfast. “Dork.” Isis mumbled taking the letter from Severus’s owl, raven mix.
Isis. Sorry to force you to be on top of things last night.
I’ll try to be more careful of what you want in the future.
Forgive me for any discomfort it may have caused.
~Severus Snape
Isis looked at the letter and sighed. She laid it on the table and went back to her breakfast. Obviously the previous night could not have been worse. Isis was pissed and Severus felt guilty or afraid.
Sirius took the letter and a playful grin slid over his face. He showed it to James who chuckled and nodded.
“Oi! Isis!” Sirius called to her.
Isis looked back.
“What’s it feel like to be on top of a Slytherin Isis?”
Isis looked confused.
“I always knew it’d be nasty!” Sirius said laughing
Isis caught on and feigned a blush and an angry tone. “I’d rather be on top of Severus Snape then you any day.” She said, but Sirius could hear her trying to stifle a giggle in her voice.
Sirius pretended to look like a kicked puppy. “I see.” Then he brightened. “Not to worry you’ll be under me someday darling!” He then took a fierce bite from his toast.
“I don’t think I’d ever be that desperate.” Isis said grinning.
Sirius stood up and picked up his bag. “Oh Isis…” he murmured. “Once you have Black you never go back.” He added with a swing of his pelvis and a wink.
Isis laughed with the other girls.
“Oh come back you big hunk of man!” She cried softy in a mock swoon.
Remus shook his head and buried his nose in the Daily Prophet crossword.
Sirius was sure that was the last time he would ever hear Isis laugh again. Over the next few weeks she grew quiet and weepy and Sirius had a feeling he knew why.

After three weeks of Severus blowing Isis off and giving her lame excuses, Isis became more and more upset. Severus had shown no interest in the fact that she was chosen to be the reserve quddich seeker or that she was worried about him.
Sirius could hear her complaining every night about how distant Severus had been. “I understand that he has to work and that it’s important to him, but it makes me wonder where I fit into everything.”
One night in October Sirius had been in the kitchens with James to knick food when they spotted Severus in the hallway.
“He’s snogging your cousin!” James whispered urgently.
Sirius was too stunned to speak. Severus was kissing (well more then kissing) Narcissia, Bellatrix's sister. He felt oddly sick, but couldn’t help but look. It was like seeing a car crash, he really didn’t want to know what’s happening, but he couldn’t help looking.
James prodded Sirius in the back as a suggestion to move, but Sirius didn’t need telling twice. He wanted to run, but the noise would have alerted someone to their presence.
“Really going at it weren’t they?” James asked when they reached a deserted hallway.
“I don’t want to think about it.” Sirius said.
The two of them remained silent until they reached the common room. James gave some of the stolen food to Remus who was working on a potions essay and Isis who was fashioning a voodoo doll of Severus out of spare scraps of cloth and stuffing it with cotton balls.
Sirius looked at her closely. She was slowly changing as fall set in. Her hair was growing to a light brown with hints of red and her eyes were completely brown, even her skin had lightened considerably.
Remus had explained that theses changes were normal for a part dryad. Dryads were just so attuned to nature that they changed when it changed.
Yet when Sirius looked at her he still found her stunning to look at. Her hair hadn’t lost any of its curl, her smile (when she did smile) was just as generous as ever, and she still had a serene attitude (most of the time).
Sirius locked eyes with her for a split second and she smiled at him. Her doll was almost complete when she waved her wand and words appeared to designate certain spots. She then took a pin from her bag and put the pin through the eyes.
“I guess I’ll finish it later.” Isis said looking at the food that James had deposited in front of her.
Sirius looked at Isis’s voodoo doll. “What’s left to be done?”
“I need something of Severus’s to put on the doll to make it his.” Isis replied.
“Why on earth are you making a voodoo doll anyway?”
“It’s helps me vent my frustration without hurting him.”
Sirius looked out the window. It was only five thirty. “Isis would you like to go on a walk with me?”
Isis looked up at Sirius and smiled. “Yes I would like that.”
“Go get your cloak then.” Sirius said standing again.
Isis charged up the stairs and came back down wearing a blue hooded cloak that covered her feet.
Sirius took her hand and led her out of the room. He decided not to go in the direction of the kitchens in case Isis saw Severus and Narcissia. When they walked out to the grounds it was chilly Sirius could feel the long cold of winter coming on, but for the moment the sun was out and Isis was walking next to him. It had been almost a month since she had a “meaningful conversation” with Severus.
Sirius wasn’t worried about any of it though. All he was worried about was getting Isis to watch the sun set with him.
Isis was shivering under her cloak so Sirius drew her closer. “If we keep moving you’ll get warmer.” He said.
“I know.” Isis replied.
Sirius looked at her. She seemed troubled. Sirius knew that she had kissed Severus and even considered going farther, but kept stopping herself. However Sirius couldn’t see how she put up with Severus’s highly arrogant demeanor.
“Sirius.” She whispered as they came up on the lake. “Do you still like me?”
Sirius looked at Isis with confusion. “Yes of course I do. Do you really think I’m so fickle that my affections would were off in a little more then a month?”
Isis blushed and smiled.
Sirius stopped dead in his tracks as her question sunk in. “Do you still like me?” He asked.
“Yes.” Isis said warmly. “I like you very much.”
Sirius lifted her chin with his forefinger again. Isis didn’t argue this time. Instead she closed her eyes as Sirius lips brushed against hers. Isis opened her eyes.
“I though you were going to kiss me.” She whispered coyly.
Sirius cupped her face and kissed her. He could feel her going slightly limp in his arms. Her hands flung around his neck and then she kissed him back with such passion that Sirius thought he might go limp as well.
Isis could feel his hands caress her face as they kissed. Isis could feel Sirius’s hunger and she began to hunger for it too. Sirius’s kiss was the kiss that Isis knew she would never forget. And that’s when she knew she was in love with the man kissing her.
Sirius dropped onto the grass and invited Isis to sit next to him. They watched the sun dip below the mountains and cast red shadows over the grounds. Once the sun had gone Sirius laid down to watch the stars get brighter and brighter as night swept in.
Isis lay down next to him and took his hand. After a while Isis was frozen, but didn’t want to lose this time with Sirius. She knew that she’d have to break-up with Severus in the morning. She knew that she had homework waiting inside, but nothing in the castle would ever compare to what she had there laying on the grass next to her.
Sirius looked at Isis with a doleful gaze. “Are you cold?”
Isis nodded.
“Do you want to go back?”
Isis shook her head. “I want to stay here with you.”
Sirius put his arms around her and lied down so that their bodies were touching. “Is that better?” He asked.
“Much.” Isis said. “This is much better.”

In the morning Isis woke up and got up to go to breakfast. She felt guilty about the kiss, but she knew that Sirius was a good man.
Since it was Sunday she dressed in her favorite wine colored robes and walked down to the great hall. Severus was waiting for her at the door and gave her a small peck on the cheek before Isis asked to talk to him in private.
“Yes.” He said smoothly.
“Severus, we need to talk.”
Severus was silent.
“I kissed Sirius last night.”
Severus raised his palm and smacked Isis hard in the mouth.
“How dare you cheat on me?” He asked. His voice had lost all its silkiness. It was choppy and angry.
Isis had bitten though her lip when Severus hit her and she was trying hard not to let people see that she was bleeding. “I’m sorry.” She mumbled through the handkerchief that she was using to stem the blood.
“Sorry doesn’t cut it!” he shouted. Severus took Isis by the wrists. “I will forgive you, but you’ll pay first. Oh yes. You’ll pay.” Severus dropped her to the floor and stalked inside the great hall. Isis on the other hand went to the hospital wing struggling fruitlessly to hold back her tears.
Madam Pomfry mended Isis in about a minute. Isis told her that she had fallen and bitten through by accident.
“Mr. Filch really should take better care of the hallways.” Madam Pomfry muttered before waving Isis’s wound away with her wand.
Isis on the other hand decided that breaking up with Severus might be a bad thing.
