The Way to Hermiones' Heart

AN: Sorry this took so long guys!

Joani: Thanks. I hope I can get this one up soon. Sighs. Weekends are busy for me.

Cristie: LOL Glad you like her. I like her too. LOL I don\'t think a lot of Slytherins will know who she is. She\'s not affiliated with Voldemort and she\'s not around the castle a lot. In fact, I had a scene with her and Malfoy in mind. LOL

JTBJAB: LOL Glad you liked. Yeah I felt bad for her too and I wrote it! LOL Anyway, hope this came fast enough for you!

Slytheringriffindor21: Thanks much! Hope you enjoy this one!

Sunflower: I\'m glad you liked it. Thanks. LOL Yeah, I was reading this book of my moms, it\'s full of wierd stuff that people thought about sex in Victorian times. I was looking at the chapter about prostitutes and it said that the pimp would show off pamphlets with a selection of thier doxies on it, and I was like \"What?\" LOL I\'m not sure if a lot of it isn\'t a joke; but I looked up the word and it meant something like promiscuous woman.

Julie: I\'m glad you like it. It\'s a bit different than the original draft that you read; but a lot of my ideas in that wouldn\'t have worked. LOL

Chapter 10. The Way to Hermiones\' Heart

Hermione made her way down to the dungeons after dinner. She didn\'t know why; but she felt very nervous.

Any student would feel nervous going to talk to Professor Snape; but she hadn\'t been scared of him for a long time. Being at Phoenix headquarters and being Head Girl meant lots of interaction with Professor Snape.

No, she was feeling butterflies for a different reason and she felt like a dumb kid. Hopefully he wouldn\'t notice she was feeling self consious.

She stopped in front of his office door and took a calming breath. \"Okay, relax,\" she muttered to herself. After she let it out, she raised her hand an knocked on the door.

\"Enter,\" Drawled Snape. She smiled a little. He was always formal without being polite. It was kind of funny.

She pushed the heavy door open and stepped inside. \"Evening sir.\"

\"Good evening, Miss Granger. Please sit.\"

\'Wonder if that one hurt him?\' Hermione wondered, holding back a giggle.

\"I trust you found your meeting with Sera satisfactory?\"

\"Oh yes sir! She\'s wonderful.\"

Snape allowed himself to give her a small smile. \"I thought you would like her. I always wondered why she wasn\'t in Gryffindor until I saw how sneaky she could be.\"

Hermione smiled back. \"Really? I couldn\'t picture her being sneaky.\"

\"Oh she is, believe me. Now, as to your assisting me, what would be a satisfactory day for you?\"

\"Oh, umm I have free time Wednesday and Friday nights, Sir.\"

\"Which night would you rather help?\"

\"I could help both nights if you\'d like,\" she said hesitantly.

Snape looked surprised for a moment. \"Are you sure, Miss Granger? I know you must have a lot of work to do preparing for your N.E.W.T. exams.\"

\"Oh I\'m sure sir. I do most of my studying on weekends anyway. I\'m probably more prepared than anyone else anyway. At least, that\'s how it usually seems.\"

Snape smiled again. \"So it does, Miss Granger,\" he looked at her for a moment and then said. \"Miss Granger, I have some potions books that might help you advance your studies in the subject. Would you like to borrow them?\"

\"Yes sir, I would love that.\"

\"Wait here a moment and I\'ll get them.\"

She sat patiently in his office while he went to get the books, wondering when he became so interested in advancing her in potions.

He came back with two large dusty volumes and set them in front of her on his desk.

\"Thank you sir.\"

\"It\'s nothing Miss Granger. The least I could do for your help. I really dislike grading papers.\"

She giggled and Snape decided that maybe giggles weren\'t so bad after all.

He realized that he was getting dopey again and dismissed her. \"Go on and read them Miss Granger. I know you\'re dying to.\"

She grinned at him cheekily and stood up, gathering the books to her chest. \"Any particular time you want these back Professor?\"

\"No Miss Granger. I rarely use those books; but if I happen to need one of them, I\'ll come and ask for it.\"

She nodded. \"Goodnight sir.\"

\"Goodnight Miss Granger. Wednesday then?\"

\"Wednesday, sir,\" she agreed.

She was gone swiftly and he relaxed. He\'d been so tense the entire time she was there. He couldn\'t let himslef slip. He\'d been very tempted to call her Hermione a few times, just to see how she would react.

Now that he had given her the books, he could let her read them and others he had and gradually get to asking her about the apprenticeship.

She could stay the summer. She had her apparation liscence, they could go to Order meetings together...

\'Whoa, getting ahead of yourself there, Severus. You haven\'t even asked the girl how interested she is in potions yet!\'

He smiled remembering the look in her eyes when he mentioned letting her borrow his books. That was truly the way to her heart.

\'Maybe someday she can come and see my library. I bet she would faint at the mere volume of books I have at my disposal.\' He chuckled, imagining the look on her face.

In his home he had more books than Hogwarts had in it\'s library. It was a humongous room filled with bookcases floor to cieling.

\'Yes, someday I must take her there.\'

AN: I have to apologize! I know this is really short; but I\'m really tired, and I think I might be getting sick. I hope you all liked it, and I will try to get another chapter up soon.
