Auror
Scene Set up:Harry is Head Auror on a classified hunt that leads to the darkest Amazon after chasing through the Sahara. Draco has married Astoria Greengrass and had a son, but they have separated recently. Harry and Ginny are married and have five children. This story takes place twenty-two years after the war. James is nearly 16, Lily is 13 and Albus Severus and Scorpius are 14 and have been sorted into Ravenclaw. Lily and James are both Gryffindors, as are Rose and Hugo. Harry and Ginny have twins, Fred and Maggie, that are nearly one-year-old.
Pairings: Harry/Ginny, Harry/Draco(Believe it or not, it is mostly Epilogue compliant), Lucius/Narcissa, Neville/Hannah, and Ron/Hermione(of course).
Chapter One: Auror
The office was quiet as he made his way through the halls toward the exit. It was late and everyone else had gone home, except for the night crew which consisted of the older aurors and two of the newer recruits. Harry had never been more sure that it was the right decision, moving the headquarters of the department out of the Ministry of Magic, especially when the ranks became overcrowded with eager young auror trainees that kept making magical screw ups in their haste and setting off the ministry wards. Now, in their own building, situated near Suffolk, their training could be done with relatively little upheaval.
At the entry hall door, John Switcher was on duty, one of the old guards that had been moved on when the new control of Azkaban had been made part of this office’s responsibilities, and John couldn’t handle the duty at the prison. He was fine in the office and was actually a very good guard, knowing all the necessary spells for the job, but not quite spry enough to be an auror.
Harry liked the work, he had been moved up quickly in the ranks when he had single-handedly brought in three ex-death eaters early in the months after the war. Now, he was head-auror and with the promotion came some heady work, dealing with bureaucrats and the rules they kept imposing on his aurors, making each capture seem like it was the bad-guys who were more important than the men and women who were risking their lives to hunt them down and ensure the safety of wizards and muggles, alike. This, included with the long hours he had to put in, was creating a strain on his home life, as well.
And now, even as he was heading home to his wife and kids, the knowledge that there had been a breakout from the prison and that his office was not only being blamed, but was expected to recapture the escaped convicts, quickly and humanely, was traveling along with him. He was glad that he had decided to fly to work this morning, instead of taking the floo.
He straddled his broom and shot into the sky, a face from his past taking off next to him, in his mind’s eye. He still thought of the other seeker, whenever he took to the air.
It had been twenty-two years since the battle that had decided the end of the war. His three children were currently on summer holiday from Hogwarts and he had the distinct ‘pleasure’ of hearing about one Scorpius Malfoy on a regular basis.
The fact that Albus Severus had been made a Ravenclaw had been only slightly more surprising than the fact that Malfoy’s only son had also ended up in Rowena Ravenclaw’s house. The two boys had become close friends, not unlike he and Ron had in the first year, and ever since then his second son had come home yearly talking about the great adventures they’d had. Of course, this entailed getting tossed out of the kitchens by an overly enthusiastic Winky, and pulling mandrakes out of their pots when another student had not fully donned protective headgear. Usual childhood pranks.
Lily said they were rumored to be the menace of the school, but she said it with a touch of pride. James just scowled as he polished his prefect badge in the corner. The youngest of Harry and Ginny’s brood, little Fred and Maggie, the under-one-year-old twins, said nothing about any of it.
Since the birth of the twins, Ginny had withdrawn from him, begging off sex with the excuse of not wanting to go through another difficult pregnancy, and Harry had been too tired from his new job to fight her on it. He was sexually frustrated, and the results had been some extremely odd fantasies. Well, odd was putting it mildly.
I feel kinda crappy about my other story that is so far from the true ending of the books, so I wrote this to be Epilogue Compliant. Oh, and I hate that term, just so you know.
I'd really like to hear how you like this, so please take the time to review.
Thank you, in advance.
