Dumbledore's Diary
A/N: I would like to take the time to thank my co-writers and beta. My wonderful co-writers are my wife (hedwigsperch) and my girlfriend (HedwigsHeart). My beta, whom I love her work, is juliannanight. Anyone looking for a great beta please look her up as she does great work.
A/N: Please note that a few of the very reasonable suggestions that Julianna has made have gone by the way side. I simply can't do them as I have to use the text input instead of the document input. In doing so, I can't find a way to italize, or use different colors for thoughts or non-spoken parts. Please do not hold Julianna to task for these as they are my problems.
Chapter One- Dumbledore's Diary
May 25, 2008
Harry Potter wasn't a normal boy by any stretch of the imagination. He was a wizard. He had lost most of the important people in his life. The latest blow being the death of his mentor, Albus Dumbledore. He had just attended Dumbledore's funeral earlier that day. He couldn't explain it, but unlike Sirius and Cedric's deaths he couldn't bring himself to grieve.
He was being torn apart by that fact, as he just stared out the window trying to figure out just why he couldn't grieve. He had been sitting there for over an hour when Neville Longbottom came into the room. He didn't even notice Neville at first, but soon Neville broke Harry out of his thoughts.
"Harry?" Neville said with a forlorn expression.
"What is it Neville?" Harry replied half heartedly.
"Professor McGonagall wants you. She told me to make sure you came up as soon as I found you." Neville explained.
Harry got up and thanked Neville. He left wondering just what could be so important. He walked the familiar hallways in a daze, and before he realized it he was walking up the stairs to the Headmaster's Office. When he finally made it inside he was surprised to find his best friend Hermione Granger sitting in the office looking confused.
"Sit down, Mr. Potter. You are not going to like what I have to tell you." Professor McGonagall said with half angry and half confused look in her eyes.
Harry was very confused, but he did as the new Headmistress asked. He noticed that all of the portraits had disappeared from the walls. Whatever he had expected, this wasn't it. He turned to look at Hermione, but she seemed to be as clueless as he was. Finally with a deep breath, he turned to Professor McGonagall.
"I was packing Professor Dumbledore's stuff and came across this dairy. I think you should read it. I suggest you wait till the train ride home at least since I don't want anyone other than you two to know what it says." Professor McGonagall told them with a look that could only be described as total malice.
Harry and Hermione were confused to say the least. They got up and left when McGonagall dismissed them, running down the halls to pack since they didn't have long before the train home would leave. They finally got to the dorms having passed ghosts and students alike. It didn't take them that long once they reached their dorms to get packed.
Harry and Hermione looked around trying to find Ron, but he was nowhere to be found. They boarded the train, Hermione left for her prefect rounds leaving Harry alone. Harry spent most of this time reading the diary. He was getting angrier with each page he read. He finally lost his cool as he read the last entry of the diary.
'Today I am going to take Harry Potter to get the item. Hopefully I can finish off this business and set up Harry and Voldemort to kill each other off. I am getting tired of spying in his mind and acting like I care for him. I get all of his money and possessions when he finally dies killing Voldemort. I will also get the credit for teaching Harry everything he knows. Snape is becoming more and more of a liability. I don't think he will bother staying with me much longer. I’ve got to make sure my plans are finished before he betrays me.'
Harry was snapped out of his reading when Hermione walked into the compartment. She saw the look on his face. She had her own problems at the moment. She noticed that Ron seemed to be avoiding her, and she couldn't figure out why. She figured she would find out later and turned to find out what was wrong with Harry.
"What is wrong Harry?" Hermione asked Harry almost fearing the answer.
Harry didn't say anything, he just simply handed Hermione the diary. She read it, and her face got redder with each page just like harry had moments before. When she was finished reading it, she did something Harry had never seen her do before. She threw the book to the floor as if it was on fire.
Hermione knew she needed to change the subject quick. She knew Harry's temper. She could only think of one thing though and it was only a little bit better of a topic.
"Harry? Do you know why Ron seems to be avoiding me?" Hermione ask with an edge of desperation.
"Sorry. I don't have a clue, Mione. I am sure he will tell you when whatever it is when it’s out of his system." Harry replied sadly.
They spent the rest of the train ride just talking. They covered everything that had happened to them in Hogwarts from Harry saving Hermione from the troll up to the death of Dumbledore. They finished talking as the train pulled into the station, and collected their things. They stepped off the train onto the platform.
