You Raise Me Up

This is going to be my first attempt at this pairing...so be nice.

Hermione looked at the carnage around her. Spells bounced from every direction and lit up the night sky with a deadly rainbow. She watched a robed Death Eater fall, dead, and an Auror run past her. She watched as an ally fell, and a Death Eater ran past her. She deflected a spell, and looked around for the one who mattered most.

Harry was dueling fiercely to get to Voldemort, and she let her guard down to watch her friend slay Death Eaters to get to the evil snake-faced bastard. She didn’t see the Death Eater point his wand at her. She didn’t hear him say the killing incantation. But she did feel quite a shock as someone spear-tackled her out of the way of the green curse.

“What in the name of the flaming pit of hell is going on here?” she cried, off kilter from the force of the blow. She looked down to see her rescuer, and screeched when she looked into the masked face of a Death Eater. “Who the fuck are you?” she screamed, looking desperately for her wand. The Death Eater reached up and pulled his mask away, revealing the handsome, but filthy face of Draco Malfoy.

“I just saved your life and all you can scream is vulgarities…” he said, standing and dusting the front of his robes. He reached down and picked up her wand, and then held it out for her. “Come on…let’s see if we can get Potter close to that fuck-tard these imbeciles have been calling Master.” He said, and none-too-gently dragged her to her feet by her hand. “My father is waiting to switch his spells as we speak.” He said, and began to drag her towards where Harry was fighting.

Another Death Eater, decidedly taller than Draco, met them halfway to their goal. He removed his mask, revealing the devilish face of Lucius Malfoy. Hermione gasped, and tried to run. Draco held her tightly.

“Granger! Don’t run…please…we need your help for this to work…” he said. Hermione looked at him. He was in full Death Eater garb, and presented an intimidating picture. The full-body leather armor clung to him like a second skin, and Hermione couldn’t help but notice he was kind of cute at that moment. But then she mentally slapped herself and reminded herself that she was in the middle of a bloody war, and that at present, the two Malfoy males were babbling about needing her help.

“Need my help? Pardon me for being skeptical…you two are bloody Death Eaters and I’m a fucking Muggle-born…this is a war…and I need to go kill some of your companions…” she hissed. Lucius used his long legs to speedily block her path.

“You want to defeat him? You’re going to need help. That messed up fuck is actually winning if you’ll take the time to look around you. If you want to beat him, we need you to tell Potter something.” He said, surprisingly coolly for all that there were deadly curses being flung past their faces.

“Why should I trust you? You have tried to kill me on more than one occasion!” she cried, quickly deflecting a stray curse.

“If we wanted you dead this time you’d be in a crumpled heap at our feet. Weasley has been injured, and can’t get to him. You are the only other one he trusts enough to listen to. Granger…the war is in your hands. But decide quickly, our rendezvous won’t go unnoticed by either side long.” Lucius said, as he had to block a spell as well.

Hermione looked at the two, her heart racing. What the bloody hell was she supposed to do. The old man had a point. If they had wanted her dead, she’d be at their feet right now. Draco had saved her…

“Fine! What am I supposed to do?” she cried, gripping her wand tightly.

Lucius leaned close so she could hear him. “We’ll get you close enough to Potter for you to tell him that when he faces the Dark Lord, he needs to say the incantation ‘Mortalis Demum.’ This is very important. This will break the incantations and spells around him. Potter can kill him with that incantation. Come now, we must hurry.” He said, and turned to ready himself to clear a path for Hermione.

Draco looked at Hermione nervously. “Um…Granger….er…Hermione….” he said, his voice faltering. She looked at him, her face filled with panic. He suddenly took her face in her hands, and planted a searing kiss on her lips. “Good luck.” He said, and turned with his father to start casting curses. She wavered for a moment, and then followed behind the two, thinking nothing of the kiss. It was likely her last few moments of life anyway…

Through means of violent and decidedly unpleasant spells, Draco and Lucius got Hermione close to Harry. She fended off a spell that threatened to hit the dark-haired hero. He turned to her, sweat dripping down his face from the exertion of the battle. “Thanks Mione!” he said, and cast a spell, knocking a Death Eater into several of his companions.

“Harry! Listen!” she screeched, and Harry turned to her again.

“What Mione! I’m in the middle of a battle!” he said, and took a few steps closer to Voldemort himself.

“You can’t battle him before I tell you!” she cried.

“What!” he yelled.

“When you get close enough, you have to say ‘Mortalis Demum’!” she cried. He looked at her funny.

“Final Death?” he asked.

“Just trust me!” she replied. That was enough for the young Gryffindor, because he turned back, and threw the last Death Eater aside before he stepped to the snake-faced Sorcerer who had caused the world so much turmoil.

“Hey Voldemort!” he cried. The older Wizard turned, and gave a malicious grin as the boy pointed his wand at him.

“Avada Kedavra!”

“Mortalis Demum!”

The two spells were fired simultaneously, and Harry didn’t miss the look of terror on Voldemort’s face as Harry’s blue spell cut through his green one like a hot knife through butter. The spell struck the man square in the chest, and illuminated him in a eerie blue glow, before knocking him into the air, then onto his back. His slanted red eyes looked at the black sky blankly, before closing in death.

An echoing quiet soon fell over the battlefield, as Death Eater and Auror alike turned to where Harry stood on the battlefield. Harry looked at the still and smoking body of the Dark Lord. He looked at his wand. Then, he turned and looked at Hermione, who had the facial expression of someone who had just been told Christmas would now take place on every day of the year.

“Fuck yeah!” she screeched. That sent the battlefield into action. Many Death Eaters began to disappear, or run, and many succumbed to the Aurors battling them. Hermione turned around just in time to see Lucius Malfoy embrace his son, and then turn to her. Draco let go of his father.

“Brilliant, Granger! Bloody-” but he was cut off as Hermione grabbed his face in her hands, and pulled him to her in a hungry kiss.

“Merlin’s dangling balls, Granger…you’re a pretty good kisser…”
