Harry Potter and the Fight For Freedom
Harry Potter and the Fight For Freedom
Just a few weeks ago, he and Dumbledore returned to the school after going after one of Voldemort's Horcruxes. Dumbledore had been weakened by drinking a potion in order to get to the Horcrux. They had returned to find The Dark Mark over the school.
The Dark Mark, a big green skull that hung in the sky with a snake protruding out of its mouth. It was the sign that Death Eaters normally left after killing someone, but on this special occasion it was used as a trap. Dumbledore and Harry had rushed back to the school, to find out who had died, but what they really rushed back to was a very well planned trap. Voldemort and his Death Eaters were in the school.
Dumbledore had sent Harry to get Professor Snape, but Dumbledore had used the only chance of protecting himself by immobilizing Harry, silently. Bellatrix Lestrange and many other Death Eaters rushed into the room, completely unaware of Harry's presence. It was then and there that Voldemort killed Dumbledore.
No one knew how Voldemort and his Death Eaters got into the school, they never found out. No one from the Order that were there got killed, just one Death Eater that got hit by another Death Eater's killing curse, died. Bill Weasley had been attacked by Fenrir Greyback but, luckily for him, Greyback was not transformed at the time.
Now Harry was lying on his bed looking up at his ceiling. After Dumbledore died, Harry had decided to not return to Hogwarts, and he had told his friends Ron and Hermione this too. They of course wanted to go with him to go after Voldemort, but Harry did not want it that way.
Now Harry had decided he would return to Hogwarts, it's what Dumbledore would have wanted: to give Harry the best chance he could against Voldemort that he could. Members of the Order had all ready tracked down the other Horcruxes and had them destroyed. The only ones left were Nagini and the part of his soul that resided in Voldemort.
Harry threw the bed covers aside and got out of bed. He walked over to Hedwig, who was in her cage. He gave her a pat and then grabbed a pair of jeans and a t-shirt and got dressed. He glanced at the clock, it read six o'clock a.m. He stood there by Hedwig's cage thinking about what do.
No one would be up at this hour; the Dursleys wouldn't be all that impressed if he went downstairs and it wasn't safe to take a walk outside by himself. In the end he decided to work on the homework that had been assigned for the summer. He hadn't started yet because he wasn't going to return to Hogwarts, but now that he was returning he thought he should get started.
There were two essays: one from Snape on the proper way to make The Draught of Living Death and one from Professor McGonagall on Animagi. He decided to work on the Transfiguration essay, it would be easier, and he would get Hermione to help him with the Potions essay if he saw her before school started again. He looked over the notes he took on the requirements of the essay: State what an Animagus is. How does one come to be an Animagus, why must the Ministry of Magic be notified/aware of those who are pursuing to become an Animagus and those who are. As he finished up his essay, Hedwig started hooting indignantly.
"Be quiet, Hedwig, you'll wake up the Dursleys and get me into trouble," Harry whispered.
He looked over at his alarm clock: eight o'clock. He'd been working on his essay for about two hours. He thought that he'd better get downstairs before his Aunt Petunia yelled up at him for being late. He got up from his desk, crossed his room and opened his door.
The house seemed very quiet, like no one but he was up, yet as he passed his Aunt and Uncle's room, along with his cousin's room he found both empty. He went down the stairs and noticed right away the absence of the smell of bacon and coffee that he normally smelled coming down the stairs in the morning. Coming down onto the landing, he noticed the mail still sitting on the floor in front of the door. He picked it up, it would save him the trip of having to come back and get it. He entered the kitchen.
"Here's the mail, Uncle Vernon," Harry said looking up from the bundle of letters in his hand. There was no one in the kitchen. All right , he thought, what is going on here? The bedrooms are empty, the car is still in the driveway, the TV's not on so no one's in the living room, no one's in the kitchen, so where is everyone?
Harry suddenly had a really bad feeling in his gut. Slowly placing the mail on the oak kitchen table, he entered the Dursleys living room. Everything there was the same as usual. The walls and shelves were cluttered with pictures of Dudley, from about every age. Except this morning there was one difference, all three Dursleys were on the floor.
"No," Harry whispered, "they can't be dead."
He started towards them thinking over and over in his head, please let them not be dead, please. Just as he was about to reach them, a swirling of people in black robes surrounded him. He was trapped.
"Hello, Potter."
There in front of him, standing among his Death Eaters, with his wand pointed at Harry was Voldemort.
