My name is Hannah. Here follows the account of my life and death.

I was born in London to muggles, Freda and Patrick. I showed magical talent by the age if three, and my parents couldn’t deal with it, so they sent me to live in Scotland with my Aunt Minerva; she was a teacher at a school for people like me. I don’t remember my parents at all. Sometimes I wish I had known them, then maybe I wouldn’t have ended up the way I did.

At age eleven I was given my Hogwarts letter. I arrived at the school with Aunt Minerva instead of by Hogwarts Express like the other children. My first experience with other children belonging to magical families was with a boy named Severus Snape. He bumped into me in the Great Hall and I fell down. He looked terrified of me (or for me, maybe?), sitting there on the floor, and he quickly helped me up. I noticed he was a dark and aloof boy, and I was instantly taken with him.

We were sorted into our houses; the boy was sorted into Slytherin, and I was sorted into Gryffindor. I soon learned our two houses were rivals in every sense of the word.

I continued to notice Severus from darkened hallways and from the other sides of bookshelves; not stalking, mind you, but it was amazing the frequency that we were accidentally in the same room.

From my first to my fourth year at Hogwarts I was very much alone. Apparently the other Gryffindors didn’t take to book worms. Couldn’t they see that I just didn’t have social skills? I suppose they could have seen through my bookish attitudes to the real me if they had wanted to. I don’t blame them though, I don’t think I would have looked at me either.

It wasn’t until fifth year that Severus started speaking to me. We were in double potions class one day and the professor decided to pair Slytherin with Gryffindor as lab-partners. Severus was my Slytherin.

“So, who’s going to do all the work? I’m afraid I’m quite useless at potions,” he said to me while inspecting his nails.

“Like I believe THAT for a second,” I rolled my eyes and paid attention to the instructions.

“You know, for a Gryffindork, you’re quite perceptive.”

“I know you\'re up to something, you might as well just say it and get it over with so we can work,” I eyed him warily while preparing the ingredients.

“Alright,” he grinned at me and leaned close; whispering in my ear with a silky voice,”I just wanted to watch you handle the ingredients so I could imagine what else you handle with those soft hands of yours.”

I flushed a little and raised an eyebrow toward him, “Are you trying to turn me on, or get out of work?”

“Maybe both,” he said as he leaned away and smirked.

“Severus, you’d better get to it, I’m only going half way.” I tried to avoid looking at the shark grin on his face. I jumped a little as I felt his hand on my thigh.

“Any thing I can do to persuade you to go all the way?” his fingers curled around the hem of my skirt and pulled it up a short ways before he stopped and waited for me to answer.

I licked my suddenly dry lips and looked directly at him for the first time since we were paired up. His eyes looked into mine with such intensity that my heart began to beat faster. His forefinger slid from the top of my thigh to the inside and stroked slowly.

“I..uh…need to go.” I stood up and made excuses to the professor while collecting my books and leaving for my dormitory.

Later that night Severus was in my room and convinced me to follow him out of the castle. Once we were outside the doors, he pinned me up against a wall and attacked my mouth furiously. Soon I was aware of his lust-filled eyes burning into mine. I know I must have looked very wanton with my swollen lips and heavy breathing. He smiled coyly at me and kissed down my jaw. I heard footsteps on the grass, but couldn’t see anyone.

“Severus, someone’s out there.”

“I know,” he said, his face buried in my neck, “It’s just Lucius.”

“Oh, okay,” I said sarcastically. He bit down on the skin he was sucking on and I whimpered in pain and pleasure.

“Play along,” he stated firmly into my ear. I nodded. He turned to face Lucius with an arm thrown around my waist; his thumb ran over the panty line on my skirt. His nail dug into it and pulled it down a little through the skirt.

“Severus, it seems you’ve found someone. Your first task is complete.” With that simple statement, and a grin at me, he left.

“Task?” I asked him when he seemed to relax.

“I’m going to join a …. club.” His eyes begged me not to ask him about it, “I had to pick someone, so I chose the one person who’s held my attention since first year.”

I kissed him and he reciprocated gently, not with the fervor of earlier.

We were inseparable from then. We fell in love with each other so deeply it scared the both of us. We made weekly (sometimes more) visits to each other late at night.

I noticed that for a while he would come to me reeking of sex and blood. He would take me roughly, and then again tenderly. I have to admit that I enjoyed his ruthless behavior in our beds, even when I was sore the next day. My love for him was not blind, however, I knew he had a dark side that could never be tempered. I knew he was training to join Voldemort. But all these things I refused to judge him for. I judged him by how he treated and acted towards me. He was never unkind, he always asked before he was rough. I had my own dark side though, and he would often ask why I wasn’t put in Slytherin.

Of course it was because i was muggle-born, but I never told him that.

In his sixth year he took the Dark Mark to join Voldemort, and I was by his side tghoughout. Perhaps that was where I wish I had done things differently, but I didn’t.

Lucius became Severus’ best friend after he joined, so I saw him more and more. He always gave me that appraising look like I was some choice-cut meat. He made me nervous, but Severus always said I was just being paranoid.

One night before the Halloween dance I was sneaking down to the kitchens to get a midnight snack when I heard voices in an empty room. I recognized Severus’ voice so I crept closer to hear.

“Lucius, stay away from her, she’s mine.” He growled.

“You’re just being selfish!” Lucius cried indignantly, “ I’ve always shared with you!”

“She. Is. Mine. And if you value any future progeny I would suggest you keep your thoughts away from Hannah!”

“One cannot help what one thinks. I seem to remember a certain someone thinking some rather naughty thoughts about a certain Hufflepuff…”

“Shut up, Lucius, I ne---”

. “Severus.” I cracked the door open, my temper flared as I heard Severus was not loyal.

They both turned to me with shock written on their faces.

“Hannah, what are you doing here?” Severus asked me gently.

“Just eavesdropping.” I couldn’t keep the malice from my voice.

“Don’t just stand there in the door, you silly girl, shut it.” I could tell he was nervous.

“I’ve kept your secrets, and it meant nothing to you?!”

“Hannah, Lucius was just…”

“I don’t want to hear it, I’m going straight to Dippet!” I turned to go when Lucius strode up and grabbed me by the arm.

“You’re not going anywhere, mudblood,” His grip hurt me and I cried out, but he soon remedied that by clamping his glove-covered hand over my mouth.

“Lucius, let her go!” Severus shrieked. As he moved to reclaim me, Lucius put a cold steel blade against my throat. Severus froze.

“Don’t.” he said heavily.

“Why not? If the Dark Lord ever found out he’d have it done anyway. I’m doing you a favor by ending it now.”

Severus’ eyes teared up, and I instantly understood that he could do nothing for me. His loyalty to the ineffable was too fear-inspired. I gasped blearily as Lucius’ blade sunk deeper into my skin and slid across with ease.

As the blood drained from my body I felt suddenly cold. My vision blurred and the last thing I saw was Severus cradling my head in his lap and his lips against my knuckles.

“Hannah…” his voice choked up with tears, and then, with surprising calm, he said, “Missing you alrea—“

And then I was gone.
