Family Tradition

Part 1

As she walked through the large doors of the old castle, Susana took a deep cleansing breath. It had taken a lot of convincing, but in the end, she had talked her mother into letting her attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for her last year of instruction.

Her family was quite a group. She was the great-great-great granddaughter of one of the most powerful wizards that has ever lived. Her grandmother, a masterful witch with powers that are truly amazing. Her father, a cold hearted wizard who dreams of becoming more than he will ever be able too and her mother, a woman who gave up her heritage, but was unable to hide from it.

That\'s how it came to be that she was raised in the States.

Susana and her mother moved to of all places Texas when she was two. Her parents were always fighting and came to the conclusion that the only thing that had ever been between them was an amazing sex life. That\'s why they moved so far away, to remove temptation.

Now she was here. Unfortunately, she was forced to wait around with the lot of first years to be sorted into the four houses. It sucked to have a name towards the end of the alphabet.

After what felt like an eternity, Professor Minerva McGonagall finally called her name.

\"Susana Snape.\"

You could have heard a pin drop as she walked up to the stool.

\"Hi Gran.\" She whispered.

Minerva winked as she put the hat on her granddaughter\'s head.

\"Well, this is quite interesting.\" The hat began. \"Your head\'s just loaded with many fascinating things. Isn\'t it? Let\'s see shall we. You have a little bit of everything, don\'t you? But where to put you?\"

Any day now. Susana thought.

That\'s when the hat announced. \"GRYFFINDOR!\"

The students were still silent but the head table, except for Severus Snape, applauded.

Susana dismounted the stool and walked over to Gryffindor\'s table and paused. Everyone was looking at her.

Maybe this wasn\'t such a good idea. She wasn\'t quite sure where to sit.

\"You\'re welcome to sit here.\" Came a confident female voice.

She moved to where some students her own age were sitting and took a seat. \"Thank you.\" She smiled.

\"No problem. I\'m Hermione Granger and if you don\'t mind me asking, aren\'t you a bit old to be First year?\"

\"Seventh. I\'m Seventh year. I transferred from a school in America to be closer to my ... family.

The boy with red hair sitting next to Hermione introduced himself. \"Ron. Ron Weasley. And your family is...?\"

Susana laughed nervously. \"Take your pick. Obviously my father is Severus Snape. My grandmother is Professor McGonagall and my great-great-great grandfather is Albus Dumbledore.\"

\"Really?\" A boy she later came to know as Neville Longbottom asked.

She nodded.

\"I never knew those three were related.\" This came from the dark haired boy with glasses sitting across from her.

Her breath caught in her throat. He was stunning. \"They\'re um, they\'re not ... by uh, by blood anyway.\"

The end of the Sorting Ceremony and Dumbledore\'s welcoming speech interrupted their conversation. Susana had a hard time listening to what was being said. The boy across the table was too distracting.

The feast began.

\"So, how about explaining your family tree?\" He smiled at her.

She was feeling a bit more herself and less shy so she cocked her eyebrow and grinned coyly at him. \"I\'m not really use to telling people I don\'t know my family history.\"

He stuck his hand out across the table. \"Harry Potter.\"

She shook it. \"Well, Mister Potter, if you must know, my grandfather was the great grandson of that man sitting over there.\" She pointed to Dumbledore. \"He married my grandmother,\" pointing to McGonagall, \"and they had my mother. In her seventh year as a student here she fell in lust with my father, also now known as everyone\'s favorite Potions professor.\" Her voice was full of sarcasm. \"They married shortly after graduation and a few years later, I came along. When I was two, they realized that what was between them was purely physical, a thought that still makes me cringe, and divorced. My mom wanted to get as far away from him...\" she pointed to Snape who was staring at her, \"as possible so she packed me up and moved to Texas. That\'s pretty much it.\"

\"That explains the accent.\" Harry winked at her.

\"So why come back now?\" Ron asked.

Susana shrugged. \"I guess I\'m here because I want to find my roots. My mom\'s the best, but I want more than an occasional owl here and there from my family.\" She smiled at Snape and wiggled her fingers to wave at him. \"That and to possibly get to know my father.\"

Hermione smiled. \"Well, welcome to Hogwarts and to Gryffindor.\"

\"Yes, welcome. I\'m quite sure this year will be very memorable.\" Harry once again smiled at her, sending a tingle throughout her body. \"Now that you\'re here.\" He added softly.

When the feast ended, Harry, who was Head Boy, led Susana to the dorms. After he explained about the moving staircases, they approached the painting of the large woman in a pink dress.

\"Password?\" The painting demanded.

\"Padfoot.\" Harry said.

The doorway was opened to them and he showed her into the common room. \"This is the common room for the entire house. Your room is this way.\" He led her up several flights of stairs. Opening the door, he let her enter first.

\"Wow. This is nice.\"

Harry smiled. \"Wait until you see your room.\" He stopped in front of a large wooden door and knocked.

The door opened to reveal Hermione. \"Looks like we\'re roommates. Your belongings are already on your side of the room.\"

She bit her bottom lip as she looked around the room. \"Wow, this room is huge.\"

\"Just one of the privileges of power.\" Hermione smiled.

\"Power?\"

\"Hermione\'s Head Girl. Normally, the Head Boy and Head Girl have their own rooms, but we both chose to have a room mate.\"

Susana looked confused. \"Why me?\" She bit her lip. \"I guess no one wanted to room with Severus Snape\'s daughter.\"

\"Not at all. No one wanted to room with me because of their lack of fun. You see, Harry\'s and my positions carry a lot of responsibilities, such as discipline. Although it\'s a very prestigious position and everyone wants it, it\'s not very popular.\"

\"But why me?\"

\"I thought that we could have a lot of fun.\" Hermione looked at Harry who was still standing at the door. \"You can leave now, Harry.\"

Harry hadn\'t realized that he was staring at Susana. \"Oh, right, well, I\'ll be making my rounds, so if you need ... anything, just let me know.\"

Susana smiled. \"Thanks Harry.\"

\"Yes, thank you, Harry. Good night.\" Hermione shut the door. \"Goodness. It seems that Harry has developed a little crush.\"

Susana laughed. \"On me? Yeah, that\'s a good one.\"

Hermione looked at her. \"It takes a lot for Harry to openly flirt with a girl. He must really like you.\"

\"Yeah right. I\'m nothing spectacular.\"

\"Nothing spectacular? You\'ve got gorgeous blond hair, blue eyes and flawless skin.\"

This made Susana laugh and shook her head. \"It\'s called lots of make-up.\"

\"Call it what you want, you\'re gorgeous.\"

She shrugged.

A knock came from the door. Hermione opened it. \"Honestly Harry, she\'ll be fi... Oh, Professor McGonagall. Please come in.\"

\"Good evening Miss Granger, Susana. I just came up to see that you are settling without complications.\"

Susana smiled. \"Yes, thank you Gran. I\'m fine.\" She hugged the older woman. \"I\'ve missed you.\"

\"As I have you. How is Emily? Is your mother doing well?\"

She nodded. \"You know Mom. Living and loving the Muggle way of life.\"

Hermione began sorting through her stuff as she eavesdropped.

\"Is she still seeing that com ... com..., oh, you know that man who designs those machines you love?\"

\"Computers Gran and yes, she and Martin are still dating. He\'s a good guy. He makes Momma happy.\"

McGonagall nodded. \"Have you spoken to your father yet?\"

Susana shook her head. \"Nope. He didn\'t look happy to see me though. I owled him twelve times to tell him I was coming, but he never answered. I tried to talk to him after the feast, but he scurried off. Some father I\'ve got huh?\"

Hermione gathered her toiletries and her nightclothes. \"I\'ll be back shortly.\"

Once Hermione was gone, Susana sat on her bed and sighed. \"Daddy doesn\'t want me here, does he?\"

\"My dear child, your father does love you. He was hurt so badly when your mother took you so far away.\"

Tears were in the young girl\'s eyes. \"Yeah sure. That\'s why I got so many letters and presents from him over the years. Oh wait he did visit ... once. I was five and it was my birthday. He spent fifteen minutes with me and then he and Mom disappeared from my party for hours. Remember? You were there.\" She smiled as the tears fell down her cheeks. \"You have always been there for me Gran. Mom does her best, but no matter what, if I needed you, you\'d come.\" She wiped her tears.

Minerva sat next to her granddaughter. \"Susana, there is a lot to the story that you don\'t know. And before you ask, it\'s not my place to tell you. Just know that no matter what is said or what happens, Albus and I are here for you.\"

Susana smiled. \"Albie looked so regal up there in his robes and hat.\"

The other woman laughed. \"Dear, whatever you do, never let anyone hear you call one of the most powerful wizards of all time, Albie.\"

She nodded. \"Not a problem. I love you Gran.\"

\"I love you too my precious girl.\"

~~~
After making his rounds, Harry changed into his pajamas and lay in his bed. He\'d closed his eyes and he saw her face. How could anyone with a face as beautiful as Susana\'s be Snape\'s daughter? I wonder what she looks like under her robe? His body began to come alive at the thought and moaned involuntarily.
\"For God\'s sake man think of Quidditch and let me get some sleep.\" Ron told his best friend as he rolled over to look at him.
\"Sorry. ... She\'s amazing isn\'t she?\"
Ron sighed and sat up. \"I guess, if you\'re into the whole gorgeous blond type. Personally I like women with darker, wilder hair.\"
Harry sat up and smiled. \"You know, she\'s sharing a room with Hermione.\"
\"Hmm... That has possibilities. If you two get together, maybe we can play roommate swap.\"
\"I\'ve only just met her. Besides, she\'s Snape\'s daughter.\"
\"So, you heard her at dinner. She and her father are not that close. She\'s also related to Dumbledore and McGonagall, remember? They adore you.\"
Harry grinned. \"This is definitely going to be an interesting year.\"
