The noise broke her revery — that and the change in the ink’s luminosity from wet and shiny to dry and dull on the vellum. She’d been reminiscing on the events that changed her path at different ages.
Somewhere down the hall, her children continued an argument that started mere minutes after their respective births, it seemed. No effort on her part reduced the confrontations or their enjoyment of them.
It didn’t matter…
The former Minister of Magic neatly folded her Forward, now sporting her “official” signature (the one she’d once reserved for special legislation and international agreements), into the thick pile of parchments and ruffled the stack to align their edges. Placing the A4-sized vellum in the hopper of the gadget next to her, she lightly pressed the “SCAN” button then rose awkwardly, feeling the need for more movement and less sitting, to attend to the noise.
Revising the manuscript brought a contemplative mood, each chapter a reminder of her life at that time. A crash and two scheming children broke the mood…
Why her husband found other “pressing matters” to attend to, whenever their children engaged in sibling behavior, set her jaw tightly. If she caught him on his broom again she’d bury him to his neck in the garden — surrounded by acromantulas and mackled malaclaws...
