AN: This story was originally written as a chapter to “Cocktails”, an anthology of short stories all having cocktails as a theme and title. The story hadn’t been updated in years when I found it a couple of weeks ago (although it was quite entertaining) but it got my attention and I wrote this. In so doing I may have inadvertently alerted the fandom moderators to a TOS issue — the story was invisible/gone as of 15Jun15. Hopefully Utopia will respond to whatever may have occurred and get this wonderful piece reposted. Some of the works can be found on Granger Enchanted — the authors have noted their inclusion in the anthology.
In the interim I am reposting this as a standalone; if “Cocktails” comes back, I’ll delete it here. Thanks to Utopia for initiating this “novel” collection and to the authors who’ve already submitted works. I sincerely hope my contribution withstands muster. I so enjoyed reading the stories in this anthology that I had to come and play for a while…
“…I guess it’s a sickness. Merlin! He’d gotten better… and now this!”
The witch scowled, frustrated at her own inability to control her tears.“What about hazard insurance? I assume there was a policy given the dangers of his position in the Ministry.”“We couldn’t keep up the premiums. I wasn’t expecting to be out of work so long…”
“Then stop being stubborn and let me —”
“No, Draco. I appreciate your offer but ‘no’. My husband got us into this and I’ll figure it out. Thank you, though…”
“Look… something will work out. Let me see what I can do. And don’t worry.”
Draco Malfoy noted the sad smile and grim chuckle from a witch used to being in control of her life.“Do you miss him, Hermione?”“Terribly…”
From the floor-to-ceiling window overlooking the main floor, the CEO of the empty club took in the conversation.===============================Nightmare
