Anybody Else
Author's note: I was listening to the song Anybody Else by Zornik when I realized it would be a great Lily/Snape song. This fic is meant to be seen as if you feel into a pensieve and the song is playing. Happy reading!

Remember how you held my hand so tight?
Remember how your tears would crash with mine?
Is there anybody else?
Is there anybody else?
Severus sat on the hill, the one he shared with Lily. He'd been sent out of the house until after supper; father had seen him, accidently, open a locked door. Severus hadn't really touched it, he just wanted out of his room! As punishment, he was to stay outside until dark. When his father went to the pub, really, because "I better not see your lock pickin' arse back here 'til mornin'!" He'd said. So, there Severus Snape sat waiting for his best friend to come around.
He heard her shuffling and saw her plop down next to him out of the corner of his eye. Usually there'd be an out cry of joy at seeing each other. But obviously they were both in a vile mood. "I hate Petunia!" Lily finally screamed. Severus scoffed, "well, I know that. What did she do now?" Lily suddenly sniffled next to him, this was serious. He grabbed her hand, and squized it tight.
"She told me I was a freak because weird things keep on happening! She's so mean to me." Lily turned herself so Severus could see the back of her head, there was a portion of her hair that was drastically shorter than the rest. "She came in while I was sleeping and cut part of my hair off. She left it next to my bed with a note that said see if you can fix that, freak."
Remember how you used to make me smile?
Just call me up to talk a while?
Is there anybody else?
Will I ever find someone like you?
He heard the phone ring down stairs and ran for it. Hoping to pick up the receiver before anybody else had the chance. Just as his father started getting off the sofa muttering about "bloody bill collectors," Severus made it to the ringing device and answered. A smile immediately spread across his face, "Good evening Lily...Oh, that sounds facinating...I'd love to come over to work on that."
"No you bloody well won't!" A deep voice yelled from the family room. He quickly hung up, muttering a goodbye as a shoe came flying his way. Severus hid under the table at lightening speed and managed to avoid getting hit. He nervously waited a few moments until he could hear snoring in the sitting room and snuck out the door.
Within minutes he knocked on the Evans' door, he was greated by a smiling Lily. "I knew you'd come over!" She cheerfully exclaimed as she stepped aside to let him in.
Remember how we danced in the summer rain?
And how you kissed away my pain?
Is there anybody else?
Will I ever find somebody else?
It was a dreadful day. It had been pouring all morning. He was stratled out of his reverie by the door bell ringing. He patiently waited to see what would happen when suddenly he heard a knock at his bedroom door. He opened it to see a smiling Lily evans with rain boats and a rain coat on, "come on," she said excitedly as she took his hand and dragged him out of the house.
"Lily!" He yelled over the sound of the down pour. "Come on, Severus!" Was all she said in reply as she twirled around and around in the rain. After a few moments she realised he was still standing stock still, seething at her. She just smiled sweetly, kissed his cheek and started waltzing with him. In the rain.
Remember how we used to laugh out loud?
We cannot even talk, we only shout?
Is there anybody else?
Will I ever find someone like you?
Severus could not believe it, there he hung, upside down. Everybody had a view of...everything. Potter had gone too far. He was going to get him for this. And there was beautiful Lily, trying to save him from his embarasment. Did she know that her being here only made it worse? She thought she was doing him a favor, but really she wasn't. It looked bad that a girl was saving him. Not only that, the most popular girl in school. His Lily. He didn't want her to see him like this. It would ruin everything.
His anger at Potter made him lash out to the one person he loved. The one person that made Hogwarts bearable. The one person he could rely on for a laugh. He ruined it all with the use of one word: "Mudblood." Shame overtook his anger as soon as he saw the look on her face. He wanted to read out for her, say he was sorry. The words were stuck in his throat as she spun around on her heel and left him behind in a pitiful heap.
It all reminds me.
Remember how you chased away my fears?
I closed my eyes, you held me near?
Is there anybody else?
Is there anybody else?
It felt like his heart was broken into a million pieces. Here he sat at Dumbledore's feet asking for forgiveness. An oportunity to recitify his misdeads. Tears he's held back for years were streaming down his cheeks. "He promised he'd save her," Snape whispered over and over again, staring intently at the Headmaster's feet. He was scared that if he looked up and saw the dissapointment in Dumbledore's eyes he'd never manage to compose himself.
She was gone. Forever. All that remained was Harry Potter. The child she'd had with his nemesis. A child that had her dazzling green eyes and would forever be marked by the scar on his head. Severus shuddered at the thought of...everything. It was overwhelming.
Dumbledore didn't say a word, just let the young man at his feet cry and mumble. He waited patiently until the sobs stopped. "Severus, remember all the good things about her. There's still a way you can make everything up to her. She still has a son that will need your help."
Severus looked up in shock at the elder wizard. Protect the child? How would he do that? If he was honest with himself, he'd do anything to save her. To save any piece of her. Even if it was just her eyes.
Remember how we used to stay up late?
The sparkle in your eye would never fade?
Is there anybody else?
Please tell me I'm not alone.
Severus sighed as Dumbledore handed him a tumbler of fire whiskey. It was past midnight but both wizards were still up, discussing the impending war and sacrifices. "Severus, I need you to do this for me," Dumbledore calmly said, "I'm old, and now slowly slipping away. Helping Draco will enforce your standing in Voldermort's ranks. We will kill two birds with one stone." Severus cringed at the saying, "must you really put it in such a crude manner? We are talking about me killing you here!"
There wasn't a trace of Dumbledore's usual twinkle, a sad smile graced his face. "Yes, my dear freind. We are talking about putting an old man out of his misery. For the greater good." They sat in silence as Severus mulled the request over. The ticking of a near by clock echoed throughout the room, making the span of minutes feel like hours.
He ran his fingers over the rim of his glass, once, twice, even thrice before violently aiming it at the wall. He stood up and walked towards the door, opening it up with none of his usual bravado. "For Lily," he muttered as he stepped through the portal and closed it behind himself.
It all reminds me,
It all reminds me,
Of you.
Of you.
It all reminds me,
Of you.
Of you.
"After all this time?" Dumblerdore asked. "Always," Severus whispered.
