The Ferret and the Weasel
Beauty Inside a Beast
Ginny Weasley was not a beauty. She wasn’t a princess, nor was she a heroine. She was simply the youngest child from a family of limited means who had nothing to say for herself but a solid career as a bottom shelf Auror. And she was okay with that, really. When Harry left her for his boundless future she had moved on, scarred, but not willing to give upon the only thing she had ever really wanted in life. She wanted to make a difference, somewhere, in some way, to someone. Being shrouded by her elder brothers gave her a desperate desire to stand out, to scream that she could be someone too.
Which is why she had dragged herself to this decrepit mansion every day for the last month. When he slammed the door in her face, she broke it open. When he screamed and threatened her and thrown tantrums worthy of her three-year-old nephew, she had been patient. She listened as no one else in Draco Malfoy’s dark world ever had. It didn’t take much, not to a girl who had grown in a loving, supportive family. But to him, it had meant everything.
Abandoned by those he loved and thrown to the wolves to take their fall, he had spent the past five years hidden away from the world, repenting the sins of his father. It was her task to find where Lucius had hidden away, but she found much more.
All she did was hold out a caring hand, one the Slytherin Prince had never seen before and slowly, she broke through. His beastly demeanor had melted away as she held on, as he changed her life while she mended his. And throughout it all, she had become more than just someone to him.
And now she faced the rest of her life, her heart pounding in her chest. The golden gown flowed around her, a luxury he deemed necessary.
The hardwood glistened beneath a thousand candles, a string orchestra melted into the sultry air. And when she didn’t think she could do this, he held out his hand and pulled her onto the floor, enfolding her in his tight embrace. He looked down at her, the love and trust and gratitude in his gaze melting her barriers and her heart. And for the first time in her life, she felt beautiful. She was someone’s someone.
