Savior

Notes: Follows storyline through Deathly Hollows, except Harry falls in love with Parvati instead and has children with her and Draco Malfoy is a bachelor.

"Parvati!" Her identical sister screamed, rushing towards the limp body. Tears fell from her eyes, dark mascara lines etching the sorrow into her face. Her body lay twisted and mangled, her once pregnant belly an empty cave of flesh. Harry Potter - the hero to all of the Wizarding World, the Boy Who Lived, the Chosen One, the one who had killed Voldemort - was shaking in the corner, hands pressed up to his eyes.

His own shock refused to let him cry. Or perhaps it was his sheer stubbornness. His wife - the love of his life - lay slain before him in their living room. Christmas was only a few short hours away. Their children were away at the house of Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, thankfully.

"Harry..." Kingsley - Minister Shacklebolt to nearly everybody else - put a hand on his shoulder. One look at the scene had already been permanently committed to memory. Against his will, of course.

"Who ... who could... why? Why this again?" There had been no mention of any other dark wizards rising in power. Violence had gone down since Kingsley became Minister, and nobody disliked Parvati. Harry, probably, but not his loving wife. Not the woman who taught Divinations at Hogwarts and volunteered in India on her summers.

Aurors passed by, the Wizarding equivalent of crime scene investigators, and Ron Weasley shoved his way through. Harry was glad he didn't bring anybody else. Unashamed, he hugged Ron, sobbing into his chest. Kingsley looked away and led Padma out of the room.

"She's gone, Ron," Harry moaned.

"Blimey," Ron muttered, turning his head sharply away from her body. An Auror covered it with a hovering sheet, only visible to herself and her partner. "C'mon, c'mon. You need some fresh air, mate."

Harry followed his friend outside, shivering despite his many layers of clothing. He inhaled and immediately keeled over, vomit splattering across the flower pot next to the front door. Ron grimaced. The sight of vomit still made him want to hurl, even after 4 kids (not counting Harry's own).

"Who would do this?" Harry asked, falling to his hands and knees. Vomit trickled down the side of his mouth. "She never hurt anybody. Why would anybody ..."

"We'll find the bastard who did this, Harry. You can count on that. Everybody in England will be looking for the fucker." Ron's voice shook. He was never very good at being the strong one. Hermione was much better. But, for his best friend, he managed to gather his wits.

"I'll kill him," Harry muttered, a dark look passing through his eyes. He looked up at Ron, tears escalating now. "Next week was going to be the week. Next Tuesday." His voice broke off violently. His fist came down hard on the ground.

"Harry-" Kingsley burst through the front door, inhaling sharply at both the sight and the cold weather. "Jeffries. You remember him?" Harry and Ron immediately straightened. It wasn't often that Kingsley showed fear in his voice.

"He died in the Alps, right?" Ron asked, looking at Harry for confirmation. He nodded absently, rising slowly.

"Mauled by an unidentified being. The Daily Prophet suspected a werewolf or vampire." Harry narrowed his eyes. "What does he have to do with this?"

"Only three Wizards know what really happened. Myself, and two Aurors stationed in Singapore. It was a hybrid created by a witch a few years ago. We thought we'd captured all of them but ... two had escaped. The Aurors have tracked one of them to Singapore. The other was suspected in his murder. I believe he's also responsible for this one as well."

"What makes you say that?" Harry asked, stepping forward.

"This was found lodged in her neck. Same as Jeffries." He extended a hand to expose a jagged tooth.

"What kind of hybrid is it?" Ron asked, hesitant. Harry looked at Kingsley.

"They're all different. They start with human DNA, then they are infused with a combination of DNA from magical creatures. Some thought long dead." Kingsley's scowl deepened. "This is very bad news, to have one loose in England."

"What do we do?" Ron asked.

"Warn everybody." He looked at Harry. "I'll let the Prophet know what's happening. I'll try to keep this under wraps for as long as I can to keep the press off you. Take your family to India. Both of them." His eyes focused on Ron. "An old witch has a prophecy that might be of interest to the both of you." The two wizards nodded and Apparated instantly.

Kingsley sighed and raised a hand to his forehead, grimacing at the vomit beside him.
