An Unthinkable Love

As his seventh year continued on, Harry found himself seeking the solitude of the Room of Requirement more and more.  The war was over and Voldemort had been defeated, meaning the entire Wizarding world knew the story of what had happened.  He and his friends, among many others, were now regarded as heroes and Harry felt it was too much at times.  He could retreat to the Room of Requirement and hide himself in the troves of hidden treasures stashed throughout the years.

When he walked through the magical door on this specific day, he heard a quiet humming.  Out of habit, he pulled his wand from his robes and advanced towards the noise.  The Vanishing Cabinet used to sneak Death Eaters into the school had been destroyed many years ago and had been removed from the school, though he always feared there could be another way for someone wanting revenge could enter Hogwarts.

He came closer to the source of the humming, noting that it was a male, his trainers propped on a stack of books.  As Harry stepped closer, the pointed face and blonde hair of Draco Malfoy came into view.  His eyes were closed and his face relaxed as he leaned back in a large, dusty chair.

During the Final Battle, Draco had turned against the Death Eaters.  Harry and his friends had never become close to them but they no longer hated each other.  They generally would stay away from one another, perfectly content living their own lives and not bothering each other anymore.  Because of this, Harry lowered his wand.

“Draco,” he said quietly, a few feet from the chair.  Draco jumped, his feet pulled off of the books hastily, and his wand leveled at Harry.  After a moment, he lowered the wand, his face softening slightly.

Draco nodded to Harry, acknowledging his presence as he would not have done even a year ago.  He smoothed out his pant legs and straightened himself in the chair.  “Hello, Harry.”

Harry didn’t move, but spoke to his past enemy.  “How are you?”

“Good,” he responded immediately.  He paused for a moment, reconsidering what he would be willing to tell the young man in front of him.  “I just needed to get away.  The Slytherin common room isn’t that friendly anymore.  The students don’t like that I betrayed the Dark Lord.”  He shrugged his shoulders as if to say it didn’t matter, though Harry saw through it at once.

“Yeah, I needed to get away, too.  The Gryffindor common room has turned into a party room.  It’s too loud and you can’t get any time to yourself anymore in there.”  He decided not to bring up how he knew the Slytherin common room wasn’t as welcoming to Draco anymore, simply because he felt he didn’t know him well enough.

Draco motioned towards another chair close by where Harry could sit to talk more comfortably.  Harry walked in front of Draco towards the chair and half expected the trip he knew would have been the least of the pranks he would have suffered a year ago in the company of a Malfoy.  Once seated in the chair, he looked towards him.

“Harry, I never thanked you for fighting beside me in the Final Battle-“

“There’s no need, Draco.  You fought beside me, too.”

Draco nodded his head, thankful not to have to explain himself.

Harry sat forward in his chair, looking down at his feet.  He wasn’t sure how he wanted to start what he was about to say.  He wasn’t even sure he should mention what had grown in him over the summer.  “Draco, I’ve been thinking a lot over the summer.  I don’t know if you’re like this, but…” he trailed of.  He caught Draco’s eyes on his face and lowered his eyes immediately once more.  “Look, I don’t know if you will like this, but I want to be with you.”  His cheeks burned as he admitted his feelings.

He chanced a look at Draco’s face, finding it pinched in confusion rather than hatred or disgust.  The expression he wore lifted Harry’s heart slightly, though he didn’t get his hopes up.  He had never heard of Draco being with another man.  Then again, Harry had never been with one.

“You want to be with me?”  He voice was soft, not unkind.  Harry nodded his head and Draco continued.  “Have you been with a man before?”

As Harry shook his head, he heard the sound of Draco lifting himself out of his chair.  He looked up, finding the blonde advancing towards him.  He sat still, looking into his face, unsure of what to do.  When Draco reached Harry, he stooped, pushing Harry’s face back and claiming his lips in a kiss.  Shocked, Harry returned it.  Draco reached his hand down to surround the side of Harry’s neck, lowering himself into the same chair.

Harry’s hands shook slightly as he wound his arms around Draco’s waist.  The kiss was deepened gradually and Draco’s hand caressed down Harry’s side.
