Ruined

1. Prologue

Hermione stood very still.

To her right, Ginny sat on the ground, her knees drawn to her chin and her body shaking from the force of her sobs.

To her left, Luna had her arms crossed and had a far away look in her eyes.  She was by far the most calm person.

Hermione was trying very hard not to shake.  Instead she stared mutely ahead.

Somehow, somehow everything had gone horrendously wrong. 

This was not right.  This was not their world, and this was not the way things were supposed to be.

It was as if someone had rewound the clock a hundred years or so. 

They were on the outskirts of London, and it was in ruins.  Only some of the oldest buildings still stood.

And muggles—they could not be seen.

Had it been nuclear war?

What had happened?

Where was everyone?
