The Sexual Education of Remus J. Lupin
Chapter 1
Lesson One: A Kiss At The 'Moodies'
______________________________________________________________________
Sirius Black was a magnitude of things. Charming, smart, funny, devilishly handsome- if he did say so himself. But he most definitely was not, under any circumstance, a family oriented kind of bloke. In fact, truth be told, he hated a good majority of his family. Granted, some of them were alright, he guessed, but most of them were blood-loving bigots who wanted nothing more but the downfall of all wizards who were not up to par. Bullshit, it was. He never really bought into that. His stupid brother on the other hand, was a completely different story. Sirius was the elder brother, but that didn't stop his mother from going on and on about how great Regulus was, and how proud she was of the fathead. And after sixteen years of living in the noble house of Black, Sirius finally had enough. So did his mother, it seemed. There he was, sitting in his room, bewitching rolled up balls of parchment to fly across his room, when suddenly his devil woman of a mother came crashing in, screaming about something or another, he wasn't really paying attention. “GET OUT OF THIS HOUSE.” She had yelled. The dark haired, dark eyed teen just blinked her. “Well, If you say so.” He shrugged. That wasn't the first time the woman had told him to leave. The only difference between this time and all the previous ones, was the outcome.
Before he realized it, he was out on the street, everything he owned packed into two trunks. From where Sirius stood, he only had two choices. He could either shack up with Prongs, who was more than likely shagging up Evans. Or he could go hang out with Moony for the rest of the summer. The idea of staying with Wormtail looked about as good as knocking on the door of number 12 Grimmauld Place and asking his mum if she could stop being a mangy old witch for a few seconds and let him back in. And seeing as how he'd rather chuck himself off the Astronomy tower than watch Prongs make out with Evans for the rest of the summer, Moony's place was his best bet. After rooting around in his pockets for his wand, he stuck it up in the air. Within seconds a large, purple, triple decker bus seemed to appear out of nowhere. For anyone not used to this, the Knight Bus was something straight out of a sci-fi movie. But Sirius had hitched a ride with this good ol' bus plenty of times.
“Alo!” The conductor said, sticking his head out the side of the bus. “Where you head'ed now Sirius?” It was always one of Sirius' favorite moments, when someone he barely knew managed to know who he was. Sadly enough, he still had no idea what the conductor's name was, even though he had ridden this thing a good dozen times in the past two years. “Er.” He paused. Where did Moony live again? “Bugger. Uh, do you know how to get to the..er..Lupin residence?” Sirius squinted as he thought, literally scouring his brain for any clues as to where his best friend Remus Lupin lived. Sadly, he came up empty. “E'yah alright, we can find it. You need some help?” The conductor asked, already getting off the bus to help. “Yeah sure.” The dark haired teen replied, bending down to pick up one of his trunks by the handle. It took the combined effort of both of them, along with two trips, to get his luggage on the bus. So the boy had a lot of stuff. Could you blame him?
The ride to Remus' house was eventful, to say the least. They had to stop exactly eight times, picking up other stranded witches and wizards. At the 9th stop, the conductor poked his head, looking around the gaggle of mismatched chairs, before spotting Sirius somewhere near the back. “Oy, we're here.” Heaving a large, dramatic sigh, Sirius got up from the chair and yawned. “Took you long enough, didn't it?” The teen chuckled, diving his hand back in his pocket for his wand. With a good dozen other full grown wizards on the bus with him, he saw no need to use any more manual lifting to get his trunks moving. “Locomotor Trunks.” He said, holding his wand out in front of him like a baton, guiding his luggage safely through the exit. Before he had time to turn around and say anything at all, the bus was gone. “Rude.” he said, laughing and shaking his head.
Sirius then lowered his wand, glancing back over his shoulder at the house he had been dropped off at. If he remembered correctly, and he liked to think he never remembered incorrectly, Remus' room was on the second floor. As coincidence would have it, there was only one window visible on the second floor. He took a look around, noticing that it was still semi-light outside. Shrugging his shoulders again, Sirius brought his hands up to his face, a make-shift loud speaker, and yelled. “OY! MOONY. GUESS WHO'S COMING TO DINNER?”
Remus Lupin was currently spending a nice, quiet Summer at home with his parents. He'd been home from school for about a week at this point, and it was getting late in the afternoon. He was sitting up in his bedroom at the moment, amber eyes scanned the pages of the book that lay open in his lap. Ancient Runes: An Exploration and Analysis of Rune Magic, was the title. He was sprawled out on his bed, laying on his stomach as he read, his focus as good as ever until he thought he heard something. After a few moments, what that something had been registered in his mind. It was a familiar voice shouting from down on the street. He quickly shifted on his bed and moved over to the window that was only about a foot away, and looked down, seeing none other than his very best friend, Sirius Black. Well, this was quite unexpected. The Marauders had all gone home to their respective households with plans to meet up in London to board the Hogwarts Express together. He pushed his window open and stuck his head out, brushing his sandy blond hair (that would later turn to a light shade of brown), out of his eyes as a large grin appeared on his face. "Oi, Sirius! What are you doing here!?" he shouted back down, nearly considering jumping down from his window for a moment, before reminding himself that he was, in fact, on the second floor. "Hang on!" he said, pulling his head back in and shutting the window, before bolting out of his room and down the stairs. The front door of the house opened only a minute or so later, and Remus emerged, that same grin still spread across his features. "This is a surprise, and what is all this?" he asked, resting a hand on one of Sirius' trunks after he'd made his way over to his handsome friend. "Planning on staying more than for a dinner I see?"
“I'M HERE TO INSPECT URANUS, I HEAR IT'S NICE THIS TIME OF YEAR.” Sirius called back up to Remus' now empty window, his laugh leaning more towards a cackle. While waiting for Remus to do whatever Remus did, the teen with dark locks stowed his wand back in his pocket. He'd really have to find a better place to put the thing, what with taking it out and putting it back in every five minutes. Keeping his cool, and what with being Sirius Black it wasn't all that hard to do, the male grinned widely when he saw the front door open, and his best friend striding over the threshold.
Taking a look around, and then back down at his trunks, Sirius shrugged his shoulders. “Well, you know. The evil witch finally got tired of my “disgraceful behavior”” he said with a laugh, using air quotes on those last two words. “But 'ey, that means I'm staying with you for the summer.” That was Sirius for you, never one to let getting kicked out of his home dampen his spirits.
“And speaking of dinner, I'm hungry. You got any food in the house?” Sirius nudged Moony lightly. “Or..” He continued, wiggling his eyebrows suggestively. “..you got any fire whiskey?” The teen knew full well that Moony did not, in fact, have any fire whiskey, or any illegal substance of any kind. But it wouldn't hurt to ask, what on the off chance that Moony had changed drastically in the week they had been apart. And if there was ever a time he needed fire whiskey, it was now.
Remus laughed a little and just patted him on the shoulder. "I'm glad to see you're taking being kicked out of your home rather well." he said, starting to help him with hauling the trunks inside. Once they were stacked neatly by the door, he brushed off his jeans and nodded. "Alright well let me just go and talk to my parents, but I'm sure it won't be a problem." he said, leaving Sirius waiting by the door. Nearly 10 minutes later, Remus returned with a smile on his face. "Well so long as you don't mind sharing my room, you can stay." he said happily. "Here, let's get these up the stairs and then I'll fix you something to eat." he suggested, and so they began to carry the large trunks containing Sirius' belongings up to Remus' bedroom. "Oh, and to answer your question, no I don't have any firewhisky. My parents keep some muggle alcohol in the house though, but I really don't think getting wasted would be a good way to say 'thanks for letting me stay here'." he pointed out, nudging him playfully in the side as they ambled down the stairs together, and Remus pulled out some bread and meat, to make Sirius a sandwich. Remus family lead a humble life, not much money going around but enough to live comfortably. Being magic of course, helped. If you knew the proper spells, one could get by on very little.
“Is there any other way to take being kicked out of hell, my dear Moony?” Sirius replied, though pouting slightly as he was left waiting by the door. Almost sure that Remus' parents would let him stay, the teen took the time to look around the house. He had never actually stepped foot inside Remus' place before, but now that he got a good look at it, it looked exactly like the place good ol' Moony would live.
Ten minutes of waiting left Sirius a little restless, so by the time Remus got back, he was already itching to get his trunks up the stairs. “You know, you should really look into getting a house elf.” The dark eyed teen said off hand, sighing dramatically as the trunks were finally placed safely inside Remus' room. He sure didn't minding bunking up with Moony. It wasn't like this would be the first time, anyway, they had been dorm mates at Hogwarts for years.
“I disagree wholeheartedly!” Sirius chuckled and nudged his best friend in the side as soon as they entered the kitchen. He took one look at the sandwiches Remus was making, and his stomach began to grumble some more. Once the sandwiches were fixed and ready, he reached out and grabbed one before they were even set down in front of him. And as if he was actually really a dog, Sirius bit into the sandwich and nearly moaned with relief. “Bytheway..” He began, wiping some crumbs off his chin with his hand, mouth still half chewing as he spoke “WhatdoyoudoallsummerMoony?” Finally swallowing the bite of sandwich he had, he took another, and another, until it was completely gone in a mere two minutes flat. So he was a quick eater, there wasn't anything wrong with that. If anything, that just meant he could eat twice as much as everyone else in a shorter amount of time. Which was much better in his opinion, than just waiting around watching the grass grow, or in this case, the sandwiches get cold.
Remus couldn't help but laugh at the gusto with which Sirius attacked the sandwiched. Remus sat down across from him at the small wooden table, taking his time with his, and only talking when his mouth wasn't full. He wasn't exactly a 'high society' type, but he did think that certain manners were at least useful. "Well, usually I set myself a summer reading list." he said, taking a drink from the glass of water he'd set for himself, Sirius having one as well. "My parents and I do stuff together a lot as well. We have dinner together every night, and on weekends sometimes we'll go to town and see a movie - oh, that's a muggle sort of…well, it's like wizard pictures only much longer, with sound, and a story as well - or we'll go visit my aunt occasionally in London." he said, now that he thought about it, it sounded rather dull. Perhaps Remus had never noticed due to the action-packed years at Hogwarts. The Summer lull was a welcomed break, he supposed.
"Are you still hungry?" he asked, noticing that Sirius had finished his before he was even half way through. "If you want I can make you another." he offered, taking another bite and chewing slowly before swallowing it down. "Oh!" he said suddenly, a wide grin spreading across his face. "I nearly forgot, it's the full moon in a few days!" he said, rather excited. Transforming was the one thing he hated about summer. Due to how dangerous he was, his parents had set up a sort of… well, for lack of a better word, prison, in the basement. It had a mattress for him to sleep on, and it resembled a rather large cage made completely of iron, reinforced with magic. It was the only real way to ensure that he wouldn't hurt anyone. Of course, Remus knew that him and Sirius couldn't go out and explore, but Sirius could at least keep him company in his dog form.
Sirius' head had drooped down on his arm as Moony began to talk about his summer plans. In fact, as soon as his best friend mentioned the words 'summer reading list', he nearly fell asleep. “Oh er..That sounds...like..fun..” He said, trying as hard as he could to sound thrilled about this less than exciting summer spent with Moony in the country. Though he had to admit, this might be the perfect time for him to test just how wild he could get Remus to be. As a matter of fact, even at school, the frail looking boy in front of him rarely let his hair down, so to speak.
“Nah, s'alright.” he replied, noticing that his stomach was nearing the point purring with delight at finally being fed. His dark eyes widened, however at the mention of Moony transforming. “Brilliant! Just like back at Hogwarts, eh?” His grin widened, if that were even possible at this point. So maybe things with Moony wouldn't be so bad. And as an upside, it was always better than watching the suck-face-fest going on at the Potter household.
The boy shuddered just thinking about Evans and Prongs together. Not that he didn't like Evans or anything, she was alright when she wasn't yelling Sirius for something or another. “Hey.” The dark haired boy commented suddenly. “You said something about town right? Why don't we go? See one of those Mood-ies.” He laughed, thoroughly convinced by that time that moodies were the stupidest name for a moving picture he had ever heard in his life. Muggles, what could you do?
Remus laughed and stood up to clear their plates once he had finished. "Don't even try to pretend like you find it at all exciting, I know it's not." he said, putting the dishes in the sink and washing them quickly, before raising an eyebrow. "It's movies, Sirius. Moo like a cow, and then 'vies'." he said, saying the last part as if he were talking to a child. "Sure, I don't see why not!" he said, heading up the stairs to his bedroom with the other to fetch a coat, as it was going to be cold once night fell. He also grabbed a bit of muggle money, stuffing it into his pocket, before telling his parents where they were going, and heading out. "Let's see, there are all kinds of movies to see too. Scary ones, movies about love, comedies, dramatic films." he said, counting off on his fingers. "Which do you think you'd like?" he asked, as they arrived at a bus stop, where Remus caught Sirius by the shoulder to get him to wait. "Oh yeah, we wait here for the muggle bus, it's not as fast as the night bus, but it's better than walking."
Moodie, moovie, there wasn't much a difference to Sirius. Those muggles had the oddest names for things. “Moooooovies. Got it.” The male said. While Remus went to get muggle money, as well as informing his parents that they were leaving, Sirius managed to sneak a look at the liquor cabinet in Moony's kitchen. He'd have to pay a visit there sooner or later, and he'd have to get Remus to try at least a sip of something. Though whether or not muggles had good liquor was still questionable.
As Remus listed of the kinds of 'movies' they could watch, the darker haired teen couldn't help but giggle a little bit. “How about a scary one?” Sirius asked, wiggling his fingers at Remus, though not all together convinced that muggles even knew what scary was. He remembered sneaking into one with James a few years back, and it had something to do with some red headed ginger doll killing people, which was the most ridiculous thing Sirius had ever witnessed in his life, and that was counting the time he forced Kreacher to wear a dress for a week.
So they'd have to wait for the muggle bus, that wasn't so bad, right? It was a good thing he had Moony with him, because if Sirius was left to wander around by himself, he would have missed that stop completely. Thankfully the bus didn't take as long to get to them as he assumed it would. Bounding up the stairs to the bus, Sirius grinned almost maniacally at the bus driver, who gave Sirius a look as if he wasn’t sure that the teenager was even from this Planet.
Remus just sighed and climbed onto the bus with Sirius. "Alright, we'll go see something called Saw. Personally I don't really care for them that much, but they're at least interesting when it comes to the plot." he said, taking a seat with Sirius near the back. It wasn't long before the bus was dropping them off in town, the hustle and bustle a little overwhelming at first as they got off into the crowd. Remus took hold of Sirius hand so he wouldn't get carried away or wander off and get himself lost. He walked up to the ticket booth and bought their tickets, before heading to the popcorn and candy counter. "Do you want anything? It's way over priced so I usually just skip it, but I want you to have the full experience!" he said happily, eyeing some of the chocolates in the display case longingly. One thing Remus had a weakness for was chocolate. Well, sweets in general, but chocolates were his favorite. He always kept a good supply of that, and of course sugar quills, for snacking on during class time.
These muggle vehicles were so silly. And they didn't even go that fast. He took his seat next to Remus without much comment, though he did lean over his friend a few times to glance out the window. Brooms were much better, he decided. After the bus came to a stop to drop them off in town, Sirius jumped up, making sure to bump his shoulder on the way out. “Bloody bus.” he said under his breath, shooting a dirty look at the bus as it drove away, as if it was a living thing and not a piece of machinery.
He was amazed that there were so many people in this area. He hadn't expected that many, to be honest. Letting Remus take his hand, because honestly he didn't want to get lost in the land of the muggles without his guide. When the reached the ticket booth, he let Remus do all the talking, managing to busy himself with staring at the movie posters. They didn't even move. What was the point of that? He followed after Moony, towards the place where they kept the muggle snacks. There wasn't much he recognized, but whatever that popcorn stuff was, it sure smelled good.
“I want popped corn.” He said simply, stubbornly, pointing at the..thing..holding..the..popcorn. It looked like a cage, sort of, and it made him wonder why corn needed a cage. That was answered for him a few seconds later, when the kettle at the top began to spew out popcorn. “Ohhhh and chocolate.” He continued, staring at the sweets counter. Leaning his head down towards the shorter of the two, Sirius whispered “They don't have pumpkin juice do they? I'm thirsty.”
Remus pulled out the rest of the muggle money he had and carefully counted it out. A pop corn and a candy was already eight dollars. Plus the drink, that would be the rest of it. "Well no, but you can get a soda. Here." he said browsing them and pointing at the red one. "That's Cola, I think you'll like it. It's fizzy and really sweet." he said, ordering the food. Once they had it, they walked to the theater, and Remus lead Sirius up to the back, thinking it best to keep him as far away from prying eyes as possible, as he had no idea how the boy was going to react to the film. Soon, the previews started, and the theater darkened. "Do you like the pop corn?" he asked Sirius in a whisper, the drink sitting between them to be shared. Remus had taken a bit of the chocolate for himself, chewing on it idly as the previews showed. The movie started shortly after, and Remus found himself closing his eyes quite a bit. He didn't really jump or scream or anything, but he just preferred not to see the gory parts.
Taking the cola and the popcorn once it was offered, Sirius followed along after Remus just like a puppy would, into the theater. This one was much bigger than the one he had snuck into with James so long ago, and the seats seemed a great dealer nicer. He handed the drink off to Remus, who had set it in the cup holder between them. The darker male then placed the popcorn on his lap and took the biggest handful he could manage to hold in just one hand, and shoved into his mouth.
Once the theater darkened, Sirius' eyes widened. Still half chewing the mound of popcorn in his mouth, Sirius turned to Moony, cheeks full of the stuff, and nodded his head excitedly. After finally getting a chance to swallow all of the popcorn in his mouth, he reached down for the soda, and picked it up, taking a drink. “Blimey Moony, why don't they have this stuff at Hogwarts?” he asked, referring to the cola he still held in his hand. Taking another drink, and then another, he finally put it back down when the movie started.
This was much different than the one he had seen before. It actually seemed kinda cool. So maybe Moony had good taste after all. There seemed to be two blokes chained together in a loo or something. He opened his mouth to whisper something to Remus, keeping his eyes glued on the screen “Do they ever get out of th—OH BUGGERING HELL SHIT GOD WHY DID HE DO THAT?” Sirius' voice carried through the theatre as someone on the screen got his face ripped clean in half. “OH GOOD LORD BLOODY HELL” Sirius called out again, jumping and hiding his face behind Remus' shoulder, tossing a good portion of the popcorn everywhere. Why in the world did Moony pick this movie? “Isitoveryet?” Sirius asked quickly, simply refusing to take his face out from it's newly found hiding spot.
Remus couldn't help but find the way Sirius gulped down the soda to be adorable. "Hey, save some for me captain greedy pants." he teased, though he let Sirius have as much as he liked. He ate a bit more chocolate, and had a few sips of soda, and then Sirius sent the popcorn flying and he was cowering in his shoulder. "Sirius be quiet!" he hissed, people giving them rather angry glares. "It's only just started, there's another hour and a half left!" he said, though he pulled Sirius semi-into his lap and held him tightly. "Jeez you're a big boy, act like it!" he whispered into his ear, hoping that Sirius would at least be able to stay quiet, even if he did just cower into Remus the entire time.
Sirius was a big boy alright, though his ability to act like one might have flown out just like the popcorn as soon as that poor muggle's face was ripped in too. He shook his head violently, though allowed Remus to pull him into his lap. “Why in the WORLD would you take me to this movie?” The darker hair boy whispered back, using all the self control and dignity he had left inside of him to slowly sit up. He managed to take one look at the screen, saw other horribly gorey thing happen, and he was right back in his best friend's lap again.
“Nope. No. Nope. I'm done. No thank you.” He shook his head again, very much aware that his face was on Moony's lap and not caring either way because he would rather spend the rest of the movie with his head right here than take one more look at that 'movie'. It was at this moment that he hoped as hard as he could that Remus would mention this moment to no one. He had an image to uphold after all, and what self respecting male cowered at a movie? Well, Sirius did, but no one really had to know about it.
Remus sighed a little. Maybe he should've chosen a more tame movie. But, Sirius had said he wanted a scary one, and Remus had chosen a scary one! He felt bad, and pushed Sirius up by the shoulders, tugging him more squarely onto his lap so that they were facing each other, Sirius back to the movie screen. "Sirius please calm down, it's not real you know." he said, resting his forehead against the others. "Just focus on me, okay? If you want to we can leave." he suggested, really not wanting Sirius to be scarred for life over a stupid little movie. Remus felt an odd sensation go through his body when their foreheads touched like that, gazing into those eyes even in the nearly pitch-black theater, Remus found himself getting suddenly lost. The screaming and shouts from the movie had gone away, and he felt like he was floating for a moment. What…was this? He'd never felt it before honestly, and it was quite nice to be frank. He felt like him and Sirius were somewhere else, alone, but they weren't anywhere at the same time. It was…odd.
There had to be a difference between a scary movie and a downright horrifying movie. Scary was seeing some old man waltzing around in a dress. Horrifying was the moment when you found out that man in the dress was your father, and he forgot to wear anything under it. But seeing as how Sirius had found himself in a position where he had to either choose sitting on Remus' lap, or watching that disgusting movie, the choice was clear. “I..” He began, but after a few seconds of staring at Moony, really staring at him, that train of thought flittered through his head and was gone.
He could never really imagine doing this with James, and he would rather eat a pound of dragon dung than do this with Peter. But, for some reason, sitting on Remus didn't seem to be that bad. He had always imagined himself closer to Remus on an..emotional..level than the other two. But Sirius didn't like that word, emotional. That was too messy. He closed his eyes for just a second, and then opened them again. Remus had said to focus on him. That seemed easy enough. The werewolf wasn't to look at by any means. One might even go as far as saying that if one thought about it, Remus was downright attractive, in a curious kind of way. But Sirius didn't like to think about things. Sirius rarely ever really thought about things. He just did, without thinking, without analyzing.
So without a second of hesitation, and without any pretenses at all, he leaned forward and pecked Remus right on the mouth. And surprisingly enough, that peck wasn't all that bad. It was better than staring at that movie, at any rate, and Sirius was not about to look a gift werewolf in the mouth, thank you very much.
