What the Dark Lords Want
It was one of the great many damp and wet days in England; it had rained the previous night. Though, a little rain never stopped the golden trio. With only a few days left of summer vacation it was time to go to Diagon Alley again. So, with booklists in tow, the Weasleys and the trio were off.
As usual before the start of term the alley was more packed that it typically was. The Weasleys went one way while the trio went off on their own to get their supplies. When they went into Flourish & Blotts to buy their books, everything seemed ordinary until they went to pay for their purchases. At the counter there was a new assistant, though only Hermione actually noticed that he was new.
“How may I help you today?”
“We would like to make these purchases. Are you new around here, I don’t believe that we have meet yet.”
“Oh, no I’m just arrived the other day.”
“Really… it’s a pleasure to meet you. Your accent is different, I don’t believe I’ve heard it before. Where are you from?”
“I’m from Japan.”
“Japan, that’s a long way from here. What brings you over to our wonderful island?”
“Well, my uncle is the shop owner and he wanted to visit family back home so, I came over to fill in for him. Also, I will be going to Hogwarts this fall.”
By this time Harry and Ron want to get out of the book store and go to Quality Quidditch Supplies. “Hermione, lets go! We have been here long enough.,” said Ron.
“Alright, we will leave as soon as we pay for our books.”
The assistant wraps up each of their books, but not before slipping in a black notebook into each of their packages.
Hermione asks the assistant what he is doing. “Oh this,” while holding up a notebook, “it is just a new promotional we are doing. Each student that comes in to buy books today is getting a free notebook for school.”
“Oh, well thank you…”
“Light, the name is Light,” interrupts the assistant. “Will I see you on the train or at Hogwarts?”
“Yes, why don’t we meet up on the train, I will find you. By the way, my name is Hermione,” as the trio walks out of the shop. For the rest of the afternoon the boys drag Hermione around the alley. They return to the burrow for the night and get up early the next morning to catch the train.
After all of the hassle of getting ready to go in the morning, the traffic on the way to the station, and all of the people at the station, everyone made their way onto the train safely. Ginny ran off to meet some of her friends, while Harry, Hermione, and Ron find an empty compartment all to themselves. After settling in, Ron and Hermione leave to go to the Prefects meeting and to patrol the corridors.
Harry sitting alone in the compartment decides that he will start to look over some of his books for this year and see what he will be learning. Unwrapping the package from Flourish & Blotts, a thin black notebook falls out. He picks it up and on the cover he finds it has a title, “Death Note.” After looking at it for awhile trying to figure out what a death note is, he flips open the cover to find strange symbols covering the inside cover. Not understanding what any of it means, he decides to cast one of Snape’s spells. The same one from two years ago, “reveal your secret.” As he does the book seems to come alive. Reading what is printed in mid-air, Harry sees the following:
“Death Note
How to use it
• The human whose name is written in this note shall die.
• This note will not take effect unless the writer has the person’s face in their mind when writing his/her name. Therefore, people sharing the same name will not be affected.
• If the cause of death is written within 40 seconds of writing the person’s same, it will happen.
• If the cause of death is not specified the person will simply die of a heart attack.
• After writing the cause of death, details of the death should be written in the next 6 minutes and 40 seconds.”

Hearing a nose, Harry quickly cancels the spell. And just as it fades, Draco Malfoy barges into the compartment.
“Potter, where are your cronies,” Malfory asks with disgust dripping off his voice.
“I don’t need them to pick my battles as you do yours. But if you must know, they are off catching your little snakes in the lions den. If I was you, I would go save them…”
As Malfoy walks away, Harry starts to wonder if the notebook actually works like it says it dose; so he decides to write Malfory’s name in it.
Everything is quiet so Harry assumes that the notebook is just a hoax. By that time Ron returns and wants to know where Hermione is.
“She may be with Light, you should go look.” Replies Harry.
“Oh, I better because we have a dead body on the train or so I’m told by some annoying first year.”
“Shit… go find her, she will know what to do,” says Harry as Ron runs off looking for Hermione.
Some time passes, and pretty soon both Ron and Hermione return to the compartment. Ron looks as if Christmas has come early and Hermione is white as a ghost.
“Guys, what happened?”
“That dead body that Ron came and told you about, you would never believe who it is. Yes, there is a dead body on the train,” said Hermione.
“Who is it,” asks Harry.
“Malfoy!!!!!” Ron responds overly energetically.
“RONALD, you should never be happy about another student’s death, regardless if you don’t like him,” Hermione responds as a reprimand.
“Oh, no… I think I may have just killed Malfory,” says Harry.
