At The Steps
Its quiet here at the steps
The early morning sun
Warms a place not yet discovered
To slumbering minds
A slight breeze drags fallen leaves
Along the ground with a soft scraping and a hint of water
Its quiet, the air is clear
Broken only by distant sounds of animals just waking
And the gentle hum reminds me of the building behind me
Shadowing and protecting me
And the surrounding area
If you listen closely you here faint
Jingling of keys as they walk by
A passing person creates a harsh
Crunch of leaves in the still air
The steps once cold
Now warm pleasantly in
The heat that is to come
Shadows create patterns too simple to follow
A door opens and a burst of voice and laughter
Drift over from those inside
White pillars stretch beside me gleaming
In the light
While a dark path lay before me
Where it seems few will tread
A window to the side hides
Its inhabitant’s who refuse
To escape from the realm of dreams
Yes on the steps kissed by early morning sun
No one sees what I have seen
Its warmth calls to me as I leave
Saying another day another morning as the bell chimes
The early morning sun
Warms a place not yet discovered
