Remus placed the scrambled eggs on plates and levitated them, along with the platter of toast, to the kitchen table. They came to rest next to the steaming mug of black coffee, its strong aroma making his eyes water. He pulled out his chair, sat, and placed his napkin neatly in his lap. As he reached for the Daily Prophet, movement caught his eye and he looked up to see a barely awake Severus enter the room in a sweep of black.

"Morning, love."

A scowl answered his greeting, as Severus snatched up his coffee and pulled out his chair.

Remus took a sip of his tea and lowered his eyes to scan the front page of the paper. "I don't believe it! It says here the Malfoys are donating enough money to St. Mungo's for a complete new wing!"

From across the table, the heavy thud of a mug set down against wood rather roughly answered Remus's comment.

Remus smiled to himself, turned the page and laughed. "This is interesting. It seems 'Witches Weekly' will be expanding their special Quidditch issue to three dimensions."

The fork and knife scraping on plate paused, then resumed their action.

Remus raised his toast to his mouth and halted half-way there. "Now this is strange! It says here, 'Luna Longbottom and her husband Professor Neville Longbottom have discovered a previously unknown plant and Pygmy Puff hybrid." Remus put down the paper. "Huh. I wonder why they didn't first announce this in the Quibbler?" He looked over at Severus, who arched one eyebrow skeptically as he carefully sliced his tomato. "I suppose people are starting to believe Luna's statements about unusual creatures. She's gone mainstream." Remus chuckled and went back to his paper.

Chair legs scratching along the wood floor drew Remus's attention. Severus placed his napkin on the table, rose and headed for the kitchen door. Arriving at the door, he abruptly halted, then turned around, long strides bringing him back to Remus's side.

Leaning down, Severus cupped his hand behind Remus's neck and placed a long, gentle kiss on his lips. Remus's eyes slid closed. The kiss told him more than any words ever could, as he savored the bitterness of coffee and tang of tomatoes still on Severus's lips.

The kiss lingered even as Severus pulled away. Remus opened his eyes and gazed up at his partner. "I love you, too," he said.

Severus's smile was all the answer he needed.
