part 1

"Leave off!" Harry cried, jumping up from his seat at the dinner
table. He made a run for the side door of the great hall since Ron
and some others had the main door way blocked.

"Harry, both Professors Trelawney and Snape said that the potion will
take affect soon. You have to go back to the tower and lie down." Ron
snapped, his aggravation showing itself.

Professor Snape was one step ahead of Harry. He was now blocking off
Harry's only means of escape. Panicked, Harry backed up slowly. His
eyes scanned the room for anything that might aid him in his flight.

"Don't corner him! He'll panic if you do and may try something. He's
not in his right mind right now. Give him room, damn it!" Trelawney
was shouting from behind Snape.

Hermione tried to reason with Harry. "Its okay Harry. Just stay calm
and everything will be okay. We're your friends Harry. We won't hurt
you." she said soothingly.

Hermione placed a hand on Harry's shoulder in order to guide him back
to Gryffindor tower. It was a mistake. Harry grabbed a knife from a
nearby table as he grabbed Hermione. Holding her close, Harry held a
the blade to her throat. There was a wild look in his eyes that could
only be described as a kind of madness. No one in the room moved due
to fear of him hurting her or just out of shock at what was
happening.

Professor Trelawney shoved Snape out of the way as she shouted. "You
boys clear the way! NOW!" looking at her student she said softly to
Harry. "You don't have to hurt her. I know you don't want to, Harry.
It will be okay. No one will stop you if you wish to leave, just let
her go Harry."

Moaning in pain, Harry shoved Hermione away. The knife fell from his
hand as he dropped to is knees. Wrapping his arms around himself, the
red grabbed wizard screamed in pain and began to rock back and forth.

"Isn't there anything we can do to help him?" Ron asked Hermione as
he helped her up.

"I'm afraid not. The potion will have to run its course. We just have
to make sure he doesn't hurt himself or anyone else." The Gryffindor
witch replied as she leaned gratefully against her friend.

Almost no one had seen Harry get to his feet again and was slowly
making his way to the door while everyone was distracted. With
everyone's eyes on Hermione as she spoke, there was only one person
other than Snape and Trelawney, who were now distracted, had been
watching over the wizard in question. Draco Malfoy, for what ever
reason, had decided to jump across the Slytherin table where he'd
been sitting and tackled Harry to the ground.

At Harry's outraged cry, everyone's attention was back on the crazed
Gryffindor. Harry reacted instantly to being touched, however, it was
not the same reaction as he'd given when Hermione had touched him.
Twisting around to hurt his attacker Harry paused after laying eyes
on the other student. Looking up at Draco, Harry hugged the other
wizard to him. Whispering a plea in Draco's ear for the blond not to
leave him. Telling him it was so dark in here. So cold. So alone.

"Immobilious!" The shout rang out just as Draco was struggling to
get out of Harry's grasp. The two boys on the floor were frozen
temporarily by the curse, their arms and legs wrapped around the
others from their earlier struggles.

"Neville?" "Longbottom?" The entire room questioned in shock.

"Well it worked did it not?" Neville asked defensively.

No one answered, after all he did have a point. The spell had worked
and Harry was now no longer a danger to anyone. In Neville's opinion
the fact that Malfoy had gotten caught in the crossfire of his spell
was just an added bonus.
