House Elves and Breakfast
A loud crack reverberated through the air causing a mound of silver blankets on the far corner of the large bed to groan in protest. “Master Huntley, breakfast is served and you are requested to attend.” The house elf squeaked out, wringing his “uniform” between his hands.
With a long and breathy sigh a short and very naked teen with shoulder length blond hair mingled with copper strands wiggled his way out of the mass of silver mumbling “What are we having this morning?” as he shuffled past the small creature to reach a large wardrobe.
“Eggs, sausage, and steamed tomatoes sir” The creature said with a hint of pride in his voice. The boy smiled with his back turned to the creature, he knew that the pride he heard meant he had made at least a portion of meal himself and he was eager to have his master’s opinion of his first cooking attempt.
“So which part did you make for me this morning Rix?” The boy asked, still smiling, on his way out the door. He was now dressed in a black t-shirt and grey cotton pajama bottoms.
“The eggs sir” Rix responded as he followed his mater, knowing he was proud of him and would give him praise and not punishment. He was right as the boy reached down and gave Rix a pet of sorts on the top of his head, it would have been a hair ruffling if Rix had hair that is. With a nod and a smile he disappeared with a crack and the boy continued to the dining hall.
He was not even through the when a small female child with waist length blond hair slammed into his legs with a huge grin, arms straight up in the air. “Up! Up!” she exclaimed much to loud for the current hour.
But he picked her up anyway in a sweeping hug, planting a large kiss on her cheek. He asked “How did you sleep Marie?” as he made his way towards the large glass dining table with four seats, and only three place settings.
The goofy little grin was plastered on the child’s face as she was set into her designated chair “No nigh-mares, I am a big girl.” she proclaimed with a nod before setting her sights on her morning cereal.
“How did you sleep Cre?” a pale, rail thin blond woman rasped from the far end of the table, a look of grave concern on her face as she continued to speak after noticing a look of hesitation on her sons face “Don’t lie to me Crevan Huntly, I can see it in your face that you had a tough night”.
Crevan looked up and into one of the many mirrored panels lining the walls. Sure enough, faint purple smudges were smeared under his muddy blue-green eyes they lacked the spark evident in his sisters eyes, a spark that used to shine just as bright in his. “I slept fine mom, I just...” he trailed off attempting to gather a coherent though “I just can’t seem to get to sleep in the first place” He pushed his food around on his plate absentmindedly as he looked up at his mother. “I only got 1 hour this time”
Before his mother could respond, Marie let out a ear splitting shriek as the remainder of her cereal went flying across the table, the milk splattering the linens, the bowl clattering to the floor, and the spoon still gripped in her tiny hands. The shriek abruptly ended and switched to crazed giggling as the house elves appeared with loud cracks to clean up the mess.
“Marie!” he half-yelled half-laughed as he got up, ruffled her hair, and went to leave the chaos of the dining hall. “Mother, I need to go shopping for supplies today if I am going to have anything together in time to attend school in the fall” His mother nodded, the look of concern still plastered across her face.
Crevan made his way make up the stairs to his bedroom, only to find his favorite pair of jeans, a green v-neck shirt, and a set of silver robes trimmed with forest green matching the shirt already laid out on his already made bed. On his nightstand was a small plate with one over-easy egg, a stewed tomato, and a wedge of buttered toast waiting for him. He slumped to the floor hitting the carpet with a soft thump sound. Pinching the bridge of his nose he whispered “Just how much longer till the glamor stops hiding the fact that I am just not..” he paused, the reality was hitting him slowly but he knew he couldn’t run forever. “..just not me anymore”. With that he grabbed the plate, taking a bite of the eggs and a bite of toast before tossing the rest of the meal away, he knew his stomach would protest but if he wasn’t going to sleep, he might as well not eat. The sound his shower being turned on jolted him out of his daze, he had to pull himself together for at least the next couple hours and an ice cold shower would be the thing to get him at least acting awake.
