Chapter 1: Ministry Dinner and The Starts Begin to Cross
Draco sat sighing loudly he hated ministry dinners for two reasons. The first being, they were just boring and secondly, he hated the fact that despite their conversion to the light side during the war; his father still insisted that Draco be seen with the sons and daughters of prominent Pure-Blood families meaning he was still stuck with the spawn of Death Eaters and those in his house at school which he had decided to go back to after almost two years on the run
As he sat there, he saw Crabbe and Goyle coming back looking smug, but it wasn’t these "friends" of his he saw. It was what was behind the two young men that interested him, and what he could only describe as an angel on earth a tall slender young woman in the arms of his enemy turned friend Harry Potter she wore a beautiful dress robe of blue silk that complimented her auburn curls, she was absolutely beautiful to Draco’s keen eyes. As she turned, Draco realized who the young woman was and to his surprised it was none other than Ginny Weasley as he watched her dance her eyes bright as she smiled at her dancer partner the air around him became too warm almost making him feel as if he was suffocating, so he moved to a nearby open window the night breeze clearing his mind with his back to the dance floor
He didn’t notice that this time Ginny, still dancing with Harry, had noticed Draco at the window. She was awe struck by how the light from the moon made his wheat gold hair glisten, and the way his black dress robes fit his trim and fit body so well though every toned muscle could be seen rippling through the soft fabric. She licked her lips stopping dancing as Harry gave her a questioning look. She looked at him briefly asking if he could get them some drinks.
She waited just long enough for Harry to disappear into the crowd before she approached the window. Draco still stood at keeping some distance from him as to not catch the eyes of nosey gossip mongers like Rita Skeeter or have others start questioning her in public like her brothers or even Draco’s own father who though being civil toward people who were not pure-bloods he still disliked her family. Turning slightly and taking a deep breath she spoke
"Hello Draco, are you having a good time?"
Ginny greeted him with her heart stopping and gentle smile.
He smiled though he was very surprised she was speaking to him at all and he manage to keep most of the surprise from his face. She was Ron’s sister and one of Harry’s closest friends though Harry held no ill will toward Draco anymore, Ron still hated him he answered her question though.
"No, not really I find these ministry dinners very dull and boring, especially since my father still only wants me to be seen in the ministry with people who are rich and powerful which usually means Pure-Bloods, the spawn of Death Eaters, and people from Slytherin house."
He sighed then said
"By the way I'm sure this may sound silly but are you actually calling me Draco?"
She smiled at his question and said
"Well Draco is your name isn’t it?"
He nodded adding with a look of confusion
"But you always called me Malfoy, and I thought you hated me?"
She giggled, her soft laugh warming his already rapidly beating heart
"I don’t hate you, Draco at least not anymore. Our families as a general rule may not get along and my brothers especially Ronald may hate you. Our fathers may loath each other, but for me that’s not the case. I’ll admit sometimes you’re a bit of a jerk, but when you think no one will notice, you’re a really nice guy I’ve seen you with some of the younger students your very gentle and obviously care about them when they are having a hard time with adjust to Life at Hogwarts. It’s the same with your mother when your fathers not there she’s really very kind to my family she’s helped my mother several times in fact though mother would never dare tell my father as much"
Draco who was not use to shocks like this was taken aback at her words. He was even more surprised when she next grabbed his hand pulling him through a nearby door that open out to the gardens.
At his questioning look Ginny said
"Sorry. I saw Harry coming back. I sent him for drinks so I could go talk to you, and I didn’t want to stop talking so I pulled us out here even though I don’t think Harry would object my foolish brothers are"
He noticed she was blushing slightly
"Alright then why don’t we go sit over there"
Draco said with a grin indicating a very well hidden stone bench.
After they sat down, they continued their conversation for nearly fifteen minutes. Ginny laughed so hard as Draco told her about things he had done since his conversion to the light side that she tipped forward landing right in Draco’s arms, and against his muscular chest. At first Draco seemed surprised by this, but a moment later with a soft groan he wrapped his arms around her pulling her more tightly to him. In such situations, Ginny would have normally protested she was use to boys being to bold and forward with her, but this time something stopped her. She noticed the warmth of Draco’s hold she felt safe even happy in his arms his hands running softly over her auburn hair as she relaxed against him, when another emotion she far from expected raked through her and had only felt once before in her life. If she was honest with herself, she would admit she actually loved being in those strong powerful built for Quidditch arms.
Ginny looked up to see Draco, who was smiling softly at her. Ginny sighed contently. She could hear her heart beating faster. Ginny told Draco
"Draco…I can’t believe I’m about to say this but…I…think I’m falling in love with you"
Draco had not expected her to say this, but he was mesmerized by her beauty. She was so close that he could see the small flecks of emerald green in her honey colored eyes, and it was staring into those eyes Draco realized that like Ginny, he had suddenly and irreversibly fallen head over heels for the girl in his arms. As if to answer her declaration, he bent his head placing a kiss on her soft warm lips
They stayed snuggled close together for a bit longer until they heard a voice calling for Ginny. They both quickly realized it was Harry. Ginny stood to leave hastily apologizing about losing track of time and needing to get back to the party and Harry because she wasn’t sure how Harry would handle the sight of her in Draco’s arms. Draco stopped her grabbing her hand as he stood pulling her back to him for one last lingering kiss.
Draco whispered
"I’ll write you tomorrow morning with a time and place we can meet"
Ginny nodded as she felt something being slipped into her hand before. She turned to leave as she followed Harry’s voice, which sounded as though it was growing more and more irritated with her lack of response. If she had turned around then she would have seen Draco slipping a small chain on under the collar of his dress robes with a pendent of red and gold and the letter "G", which Ginny had given him a little while ago he then smoothed his collar making sure the chain wasn’t visible.
When Ginny finally found Harry he was irate and started to question her rather harshly, which made Ginny very angry and answered as such
“I went outside for some air because you took a long time with the drinks and I saw some pretty fairy bushes out here that I wanted to examine more closely, now if you will excuse me Harry I have dances to claim with my brothers Ron and Fred”
Harry continued to stare at her as she rapidly walked away to find a bathroom, and had Harry turned around he would have seen Draco slip back into the party from one of the side doors near him. Ginny quickly found the bathroom and locked herself inside finally opening her hand to reveal a beautiful silver ring emblazed with the green Malfoy crest, she smiled as she slip the ring on her finger then carefully left the bathroom so no one would see her hand
She danced with Ron and Fred and the whole time and watched as Draco danced with Millicent Bullstrode and Pansy Parkinson. However, he was not looking at his dance partners he was watching her, Ginny danced but continued to dance with her brothers as she and Draco continued to watch each other as if they were picturing that they were dancing together and not with different people
Several hours later as people crowded around the doors to leave, Draco and Ginny managed to slip away one last time with soft kisses and reassured promises of a meeting the next day. When Ginny and her family got home later they wondered at her obviously giddy behavior and not one of them noticed the ring on her finger, nor did they question her most of them assumed that she had just enjoyed her first taste of socialite and political exposure seeing as this had been the first Ministry dinner she was allowed to attend with a male escort even if that escort had been her best friend Harry
Ginny lay in bed dreaming of Draco that night and thinking about the idiotic feuded between their fathers’ which she was positive neither man could honestly remember what event had caused it in the first place. She knew her brothers didn’t like Draco because he always seemed like a rude pompous arrogant jerk and her father would surely kill her when he found out about her and Draco’s relationship, but for now she didn’t care she was overwhelmed by her need and love for Draco. She then drifted off thinking of being back in Draco’s arms again the next day
Draco was also beyond words that night when he arrived home with his parent, his father was still complaining about trivial matters, like who had attended the party. Not long after their arrival home Draco had to exercised massive control of his temper when his father began to bash Ginny and the manner in which she behaved which his father found most unbecoming of a pure-blood who was just introduced into political society
“Shamelessly flirting with the sons of good honorable pure-blood families”
Shortly after this rant Draco retired to his rooms to calm down and sleep it was with the beautiful image of Ginny’s radiant face parading before him that Draco drifted into sleep he was going to make sure Ginny never forgot he loved her because he did he couldn’t explain it or pin point the moment it happen but he loved that woman
