The Storm Within
He was shivering. He was sitting in front of the Head's common room fire and couldn't stop shaking. As the storm raged outside, Draco's mind slipped back into the past to that year. That gods forsaken year when that abomination took control of his home and his family.
With every sound he was sucked into the black vortex of a year best left unremembered. Each clap of thunder triggered the sounds from those tortured by the Dark Lord. The howling wind brought back his own cries of despair when, back then, he honestly believed he would die.
He gathered his knees to his chest and rocked as his body shook. He willed the storm to be silent as he quietly begged Merlin for an absolution he knew wouldn't ever come.
He continued to shake with the knowledge that the nightmares would never stop plaguing him. It wasn't until the portrait hole opened that Draco felt his tension ease slightly.
“Draco” Hermione called out. “I'm ba...” she stopped speaking once she noticed his demeanor and rushed to his side after warding the door closed. She sat beside him and gathered him in her arms. “It's alright” she cooed to him. “That dreadful time is all over now. Voldemort is no more.”
She knew exactly what he needed to bring himself back from the brink. It was then that Draco knew everything would be alright. It would all be fine so long as he had Hermione to help him through the storms.
