Harry Potter and the Blood Secret

Chapter 1- The Change and the Visit

It was a quiet night on Privet Drive. It was midnight, and everyone had long since gone to bed. Inside the smallest bedroom lay a teenager, staring at the stars. He had a lot to think about. It was only a month since his mentor died, and he had just come to grips with it. Unlike most teenagers, he had the weight of the world squarely on his shoulders. He was not a normal teenager by any means. In fact, he was a wizard. He had a mortal enemy before he was even two. What lay heaviest on his mind was how no matter how much he ate he was still losing weight. Something had changed about him, and he had yet to figure out what it was.

Harry was going to turn seventeen, and according to the wizarding world he would be an adult. He had grown into a tall, skinny, and muscle-bound teenager. He had raven black hair and dancing emerald green eyes. He had never really known love. His parents died when he was a baby at the hands of a madman. He had thought that he would leave the Dursleys in his third year at Hogwarts, but his godfather was still an escaped prisoner. The hope that Sirius's name would be cleared died two years ago when Sirius died at the hands of a Death Eater.

Harry needed someone to talk to so he sent a letter to his best friend, Hermione. He asked her if he could spend the summer with her family. It wasn't long before he had gotten her reply. It, of course, was that he could, and that she would pick him up today. He was too excited to sleep. He had a crush on her since their first year, but even with all his Gryffindor courage he couldn't tell her.

Harry lay in his bed until the sun came. He couldn't get Hermione out of his head. He knew he needed her, but how was he going to spend the summer with her? He knew that it would be torture, but it would be worth it. Hermione always calmed him down, and made him glad to be alive. Harry had tried to crush his feelings for her by first going after Cho and later Ginny. It hadn't worked. If anything it made him realize all the more that he was in love with her. It was only out of fear of losing her that he couldn't tell her.

Harry's thoughts were interrupted by the sound of his alarm going off. He got up and went to take a shower. When he got back into his room, he reached into his trunk and got out some clothes he had bought on one of his many walks. He refused to wear any of Dudley's hand-me-downs any longer. The shirt, however, was a gift from Hermione and was just the right shade of green to match his eyes. He stood there in his muggle clothes thinking about how he preferred his robes. Harry, however, preferred anything to do with magic over his life outside of Hogwarts.

There was a ring of the doorbell and Harry rushed down stairs pulling his trunk with him. He got down to the door a second too late to find Uncle Vernon yelling at Hermione and her parents. He quickly defused the situation and said his goodbyes. He literally had to drag the Grangers and Hermione away before things got out of hand. All in all, Harry was still happy to be leaving Privet Drive.

"It's nice to see you, Harry. Maybe we will get to find out what spell you put on our daughter. She never stops talking about you. Somehow I doubt that will change even with you living with us for a while," said Mrs. Granger

"MOM! Stop embarrassing me! Sorry, Harry, my mom can be like that sometimes," Hermione said blushing.

"Hermione, your mother is just telling the truth. We know more about Harry then we do about Hogwarts!" Mr. Granger exclaimed.

"I am glad you are willing to take me in. I missed Hermione. Hermione don't worry. I have already got all my homework done," Harry assured with a grin.

The car trip was uneventful. It shocked Harry just how much the Grangers knew about him. There was no doubt in his mind that Hermione did talk about him all the time. When he asked them if they knew as much about Ron, they asked him who Ron was. He explained that it was another one of Hermione's friends and that he was the one they were going to spend time with for the wedding. They knew about the wedding, but they had thought it was a member of Harry's family that was getting married. Harry told them that they had already met his entire family.

When they arrived at the Granger's home, Hermione grabbed Harry's hand and dragged him inside before he even got to look at the house. She quickly gave him a tour and showed him to his room. They sat on his bed and talked about the events of the past month. Harry explained how the Dursleys had him locked up in his room the entire month. Neither of them noticed as Mr. Granger walked in with Harry's trunk.

"THEY TREAT YOU LIKE THAT!" Mr. Granger exploded with the look of pure hate in his eyes.

Mr. Granger grabbed Harry and Hermione's arms and pulled them down to the dinning room. He called Mrs. Granger down. He quickly pulled up Harry's shirt and checked his body for any signs of abuse. Sure enough there were scars from where Dudley had beaten him up all his childhood. Hermione, however, was not staring at his scars like her father but, rather, his well-built frame.

"I don't think that is a good idea to do that in front of Hermione," Mrs. Granger said as she entered the room.

"Why not dear? I was just checking out all his scars. I overheard him telling Hermione that they had him locked in his room for over a month," Mr. Granger snarled with clear venom in his voice.

"I wouldn't because our daughter is not checking out scars, John," Mrs. Granger replied, looking at her daughter with a knowing smile causing Hermione to blush.

Mr. Granger was taken aback. It took him a few seconds before his wife's words sank in. Suddenly, he realized just why Hermione was always talking about Harry. He looked at Harry and saw a look of love in his eyes that was clearly pointed at Hermione. He knew he was in trouble. He had two love birds under his roof. He knew even if they weren't dating now they would be soon.
