CHAPTER ONE

Harry Potter grimaced as he saw the blond boy enter the bathroom. Draco Malfoy walked over to the sinks and turned one of the taps on, letting water flow over his pale, slender hands. Harry growled to let Draco know of his presence.

Draco spun around at the sound, his eyes huge. “Potter? What the fuck are you doing here?” he asked, seeming casual, not scared out of his mind.

Harry smirked and walked over to the Slytherin. Since the demise of Voldemort, the subtle changes in both boys had made their relationship even rockier. “I was just sitting here, Malfoy,” he sneered. “I was hoping I’d find some peace. I mean, who the hell comes to this loo anyway?”

It was true, at least. The bathroom was out of the way of the classrooms and quite dingy.

“I was trying to get away from my bad dreams,” Draco mumbled to himself. He really didn’t expect Harry to hear, so he was shocked when he heard the black haired wizard laugh.

“You have nightmares?” Harry asked.

Draco glared and nodded. “Well, I’m going back to the dungeons, Potter. Try not to get yourself killed.” Malfoy sneered and walked to the door. He had his hand on it, and turned to smirk at Harry, but when he looked at the sinks, he didn’t see him. He shrugged and walked into the hall.

Harry was standing just outside the bathroom door. “Oh, hello there, Malfoy,” he smirked. Draco jumped and Harry snorted again. “Twitchy little thing, aren’t you?”

Draco glared and shoved Harry away from him. “Sod off, Potter; no one cares what you have to say, least of all me.”

Harry feigned a hurt look and sighed. He frowned and said quietly, “B-But M-Malfoy…”

Draco turned around, his eyebrows scrunched together in confusion. “What the hell do you want, Potter? Are you just here to make my life even more miserable? Was it not enough for you to kill my parents right before my eyes?”

Harry’s glare did fade this time; he sighed quietly and looked at the ground. “Look, Malfoy, I’m sorry about that, alright? I was going to apologize as soon as the war quieted down, but it was just…kill or be killed, you know?”

“Yeah,” Draco sneered. “I know just what you mean.” He turned around and walked down the hall to return to the dungeons.

He never heard Harry’s sigh.

The next day during classes, Harry kept his eye on Malfoy. He was definitely different compared to how he acted before the final battle. ’Where I killed his parents,’ Harry thought to himself guiltily.

At supper that night, Harry noticed for the first time that Draco, though he sat with his old friends – the ones that were still alive, at least – seemed to sit alone, too. He didn’t talk to anyone, didn’t smile, and didn’t make eye contact when spoken to. When Harry saw Draco leave the Great Hall, he waited a few seconds, and then rose to leave, too.

“Hey, wait, Malfoy.”

Draco turned around to see ‘the hero’ walking towards him. “What do you bloody want from me, Potter?”

Harry glared at him for a second before his gaze softened. “Come on, let’s go to the Quidditch pitch.”

“Why?” Draco snarled. “So you can kill me and not have to hide the body?”

Harry stared at the blond for a moment before he laughed. “Yeah, Malfoy, that’s exactly what I’m planning,” he said sarcastically. “How’d you know?” He held out his hand for Malfoy to take. When the blond made no moves toward coming with him, Harry sighed and said, “Look, do you want to switch wands or something? You know that another wizard’s wand doesn’t work as well as your own, so you’d be a little safer.”

Draco nodded slowly and took Harry’s wand from him. He followed Harry as the other wizard walked back up the hall. “Wait, Potter,” he suddenly said. He almost dropped the wand. “Is this the wand that killed…”

Harry smiled gently. “No, Malfoy, it’s not, I promise. I got a new wand after…all that.”

Draco stared at the piece of wood for a few more seconds before he tightened his grip on it. “It hasn’t done any dark magic?”

Harry laughed and said, “Not unless you count petrifying Ron as dark magic.”

Draco smiled lightly and shrugged. “Nah, that’s definitely a good thing.” He stood for another moment and then nodded. “Alright; let’s go.”

Harry walked onto the Quidditch pitch and took a deep breath of air. He held up his hand and said firmly, “Accio Firebolt.”

Draco jumped when he heard Harry casting a spell without the use of a wand. “Damn it, Potter, tell me before you go all super wizard on me,” he glowered. A broom rushed past his head and he choked on a scream.

Potter laughed lightly and shook his head. “I’m not going to hurt you, Malfoy,” he said. “I just like being out here at night, and I wanted some company tonight. Besides, I meant what I said last night.”

Draco watched Harry throw his leg over the broom, which in turn, levitated about four feet off the ground. “What, are you just going to drag me out here and then fly off?” he grumbled.

Harry laughed again. “No, that’s not what I intended. I had meant to drag you onto this broom, too, you git. You look like you need some relaxation. I’d give you a massage, but I don’t think you’d be too keen on that, so I chose flying instead.”

Draco slowly walked over to Harry. “Are you sure it’s safe…?” he asked quietly as he stroked the broom tail.

“Draco, get on.”

Draco started at hearing his first name uttered in Harry’s voice – a voice which had gotten deeper over the summer and now sounded seductive even while he laughed. Damn him.

“Fine, fine,” the last Malfoy grumbled. He stood next to the broom for another moment before he saw Harry shift backwards some.

“Come on, git, I’m not waiting all night,” Harry laughed. “Get on.” He patted the handle in front of him and felt the second seat he had charmed onto the broom.

“Okay…” Draco said slowly as he slid his leg over the handle. As soon as he was situated on the broom, he felt Harry’s arm wrap around him, and they shot off into the sky. It felt like his lungs and stomach completely disappeared as Harry led them almost straight up into the sky.

The broom slowly leveled out, and Draco could see the top of Hogwarts. He’d never bothered flying that high during a Quidditch game. He felt Harry’s arm tighten around him and saw the other seeker’s hand tighten on the handle. His eyes widened as Harry kicked the broom and steered it back down to the ground.

Draco screamed as Harry hurled them both towards the grass. Potter pulled back just in time to avoid a crash with the ground. Then Draco saw the stands flash past them as Harry flew out to the lake.

“Having fun yet, Malfoy?” he heard Harry ask from behind him. Draco didn’t trust his voice, so he only nodded.

Harry seemed to be able to see in the dark, and he shook slightly as Harry spiraled them both towards the surface of the lake. Just seconds before Draco was sure he’d hit the water, he felt the broom change direction, going toward the sky again.

“God damn you, Potter, this is terrifying!” he shouted. His voice was lost on the wind, but Harry heard him loudly.

“You love it, Malfoy, I know you do,” Harry spoke directly into Draco’s ear.

Potter flew around the campus recklessly as Draco held on for dear life. Finally, as Harry saw the moon setting, he flew back to the doors of the castle. Setting them down gently, Harry let Malfoy climb off the broom first, then followed quickly, catching the blond heir as he almost fell to the ground.

“Shit, Potter, did you have to go so fast?” Draco breathed.

“Mm, you can’t tell me that wasn’t the most fun you’ve had in ages, Malfoy,” Harry hissed with a smirk. He watched as Draco looked at him and blushed.

“Maybe, maybe not; I’ll admit to no such thing.”

“It’s just as well, Malfoy,” Harry said. “It would be pretty horrible if you had fun; you’d almost want to come out tomorrow night and do it again, wouldn’t you?”

He laughed as Draco’s eyes widened with joy. Just as quickly, Malfoy hid the emotion and shrugged. “If I have nothing better to do, I don’t see why not.”

Harry looked at Draco, taking in the flushed cheeks, the wind-blown hair, and the look in his eyes that said he just had the best time of his life. He smiled and said, “Come on, Malfoy, let’s get you back to your snake pit.”

He held his arm out for Draco to take, even though he knew it’d be refused. He was right when Draco sniffed and shook his head. As the blond tried to take his first step back on the earth after hours of reckless flying that he had no control over, Draco’s legs buckled underneath him, and he glared at Harry, who had coughed to hide a snicker. Harry lifted Malfoy easily and carried him into the castle, despite the blond’s protests.
