Chapter 1

She didn’t know if her heart could handle any more pain. The desperate thoughts circled through her head and she
had no answers. All she wanted was to be wrapped in his arms, in that warmth she craved. He could die, again,
at any moment. Just one flick of his enemies wand and he would leave her forever. There was nothing left to protect him.
The pain she felt while watching him duel to his possible death replaced the blood in her veins; it coursed through
her entire body. It filled her to the brim, tears flowing down her face.

How did they end up here?

Why was she still standing on the side unnoticed by the crowd holding
their breath? She should help her innocent, unprotected love. It is her fault.

She doesn’t notice the two wands about to strike, all she knows is every fiber in her body is leaping in between to stop
her true other half from getting hit. A brilliant eruption of gold fills the Great Hall and the she feels as if her heart? No, it’s
much deeper than that. Her soul. She feels as if her soul is exploding through her chest. As her last fleeting thought
she remembered his face, she hears a loud scream before being engulfed by the Darkness.

“Stupid, stupid girl. How could she be so thick?,” said Severus Snape as he turned to face Dumbledore.

The portrait shifted uneasily in his ornate chair. Snape let out something close to a growl and turned his back.
How could such an extraordinary wizard not have an answer for such a simple question? Wasn’t it obvious?

“Severus, you should be resting. Most wizards find bed rest acceptable about near
death experiences… did wonders for me after Mr. Marvolo’s ring ah- incident?”

Snape whipped around to greet the past headmaster with livid eyes. “Incident? That was merely a suicide attempt!
You and this girl would make quite a pair. Stupid mistakes for the love of a person,” Snape was more or less
muttering to his self on that last part. He still could not grasp the fact how she leapt in front of him without thinking
of the consequence she was facing, not just his.

He looked at the ground, instantly regretting turning around so fast. His neck was still
slightly sensitive and healing after the bite from that bloody snake.

Dumbledore was patiently waiting in his frame. He watched the worn man gingerly pat his neck.
Albus Dumbledore was a patient man before, but after death he had all the time in the world.
He quietly chuckled at the thought and noticed Severus clench his fists.

“Do you find this situation humorous?,” Snape asked in a slow, deadly voice.

Dumbledore watched in amusement as his knuckles turned white. What could he do?
Shake him out of his frame? Ah, there are plenty of beautiful frames to take home to.
Why not push him a little further?

“Please, relax your fists. After all, my stupid mistake prevented you from relieving
yourself by physical harming me. Of course I don't find this to be a joke,” Dumbledore said cheerfully.

Once again, Snape turned much too quickly. “You are impossible to reason with. This girl is completely disturbed,” Snape shouted.
He hit his fist on his desk, disturbing the stack of books piled on top as a few groaned in reply. Ignoring the books, he rubbed his
temples to try to think clearly. Stupid old fool, always make a joke or game out of things. Grasping the edge of the desk with both
hands, he found himself slowly relaxing. Exactly what the old man was wanted, Snape thought bitterly.

“Does this young lady have a name,” Dumbledore asked conversationally.

“Bloody fool,” Snape sighed, still grasping the desk.

Dumbledore chuckled again and said,” I would prefer a name presumably given to her by her parents and
her surname. How did she fall out of the corner of my eye?”. Snape took a deep breath and replied wearily,” Her name
was never given and I never was able to find out. I highly doubt you can keep track of every witch or wizard in the wizarding world”.

Dumbledore simply nodded and let Severus get lost in his own train of thought. There were more pressing
questions about the personal factor in this story, the burning man in Severus’ eyes was enough evidence.

“Do you know if she will wake? Any brilliant theory why she is not being picked up piece by piece out of the Great Hall
as we speak? Or how he survived such a thing,” Snape said after snapping out back into reality.

Snape glanced at his frame and the other past headmasters hastily faked slumber.
To his much surprise, the wizard was trying to hide a grim smile.

“I do not know, Severus. I truly hope the young girl does wake, not only to get answers, but because she deserves
another chance,” Dumbledore said, only pausing to stop Severus from arguing. Dumbledore heard him mutter something
about “second chances” and he smiled. “Every person deserves one. This poor girl is no exception. She is should be honored as
a prime example! Sacrificing her self for a loved one and not reaching to look into her own future when facing something
as formidable as death. Much like yourself, Severus. I will admit, I am shamelessly craving to know her story. I feel as if I know her.
The Healers are doing as much as they can muster, so we shall wait”.

Snape turned to see Dumbledore’s eye become wet and looked away to give him a moment. How can he let go
at a crucial time like this? Snape glanced and saw Dumbledore was twiddling his thumbs and glancing around his frame,
as if he was trying to pick a new splash of color to sit in front of.

The lights flashed, pulling both out of their trance and eyes to the door. Snape hastily walked around and sat as
his desk. As he sat down, he made sure his collar was securely above his bandages.

Without a knock on the door, Harry Potter burst through the door.

“Snape! She is awake, you have to come quick!,” Harry half shouted out of anxiety.

“Professor Snape, Mr. Potter. Merlin’s beard, could you not just Floo from St. Mungo’s? I specifically gave you
leeway to Floo straight into my office…” Snape drawled, trying to remain casual before Harry interrupted him.

“Well Professor, I would have but she woke up and Apparated here. I barely caught her ankle…,” Harry said flustered.

Snape was up before Harry could finish, his cloak billowing behind him as he raced down the stone stairs before
they could twist down to the landing of his study. Harry raced behind, breathless.

“Where is she?,” Snape asked menacingly.

“Great Hall!,” Harry replied swiftly, descending down the stairs.

Snape shook his head in anger. Of course she would go there. How she Apparated into Hogwarts was a mystery, l
et alone her ability to do anything after such an unexplainable magical catastrophe. Snape ran down the main staircase
and into the Great Hall and came to a halt, Harry right on his heels.

There she was.

Standing in the middle of the empty Great Hall with her eyes closed. The small blue hospital gown made her look even more fragile,
if that was possible. Her long, wavy dark hair was untidy and her bangs hid the left side of her face. Her face was worn and her cheeks
were glowing pink from the effort of Apparating. Her full, pink lips were slightly parted from breathing hard.

Snape felt a surge of pity. This girl was impossibly thin and there were visible bruises on her legs and arms. The gown did not hid
e the bones protruding from her emaciated body. Yet you could still see the brilliant beauty she held. So vulnerable.

Yet she had survived the Killing Curse, the second person every to survive the Curse in Wizarding history.
The other idiot survived was panting behind him, which snapped Snape out of it.

“Are – are you okay?,” Snape asked clearly. Maybe she was a mute. There was no way she was a Muggle since she magically
transported herself here…. Snape watched the girl slowly lift her head and she showed her brilliant green eyes,
framed by thick lashes. If the color was shocking, the look inside was devastating.

The pain inside filled every fleck of color in her eyes.
She shifted her weight uncomfortably front one foot to the other.

Snape slowly looked away, sensing Potter’s discomfort being so close to her. The girl who tried to save him.
Snape exchanged a look at Harry and saw him as something more for the first time in his life.
They both felt threatened by his breathtaking girl in front of them.

The girl who risked her life to save his, Lord Voldemort.
