Preparedness
Preparedness
The doorbell diverted Snape's attention from his dissection. With a snap of his head, lank hair sticking to his face, he stared disbelievingly towards the front of his house. Distractedly carrying his project, he strode to the door, stopping to peer through the peephole. Two young men stood silently on his front stoop. Shoving the door open so forcefully that the pair had no choice but to step back, Snape appeared in the doorway, eviscerated newt in his left hand, surgical scalpel in his right.
Silkily, he queried, "Yes?"
Stammering slightly, the taller man, the leader, asked softly, "Are you prepared for the Armageddon?"
"Indeed, I am," he purred silkily.
The smaller man, clutching his requisite copies of The Watchtower, gulped and backed down a step.
"Would you care to come inside and discuss my preparedness, in detail?" Snape offered, motioning to the dark recesses of the house with his bloodied scalpel.
"We, uh, no, no thank you, sir. We believe you," stuttered the leader as he pushed his compatriot to back all the way down the steps. Once on sidewalk, both men turned tail and ran.
