Not So Lost Afterall

Summary: Harry’s job leads him to stumble upon an ancient race considered to be myth even to the wizarding world. Unfortunately this race is beginning to implode, and mass killings are starting. With a war both in the wizarding and muggle worlds Harry must both protect a new friend and bring an end to the senseless assassination. The question is how does one keep a secret when it’s been exposed to everyone?

Or the Night Before

Harry Potter had distroyed the Dark Lord Voldemort six years ago. He was now 23 years old and working in a newer section of the Ministry devoted to keeping the peace between the different magical creatures; up until now that hadn’t been much of a problem, and the division he had been placed in had only popped up two years ago. However, now it seemed to be more then needed. But now Harry had a problem, and it was made abundantly clear that it was his problem until he had more evidence. What was this problem? Well to know that you have to look into the race of letherians. They weren’t even included into Hogwarts curriculum because they were believed to be pure myth. Apparently they were real, very real, and honestly beginning an all out war amongst the wizarding and muggle public alike.

What is a letherian (lith-air-e-an)? They were an ancient race of humanoid cats that had both a human and feline form, much similar to an Animagus. They were originally human protectors, but when magic began to separate and muggles started retaliating the letherians sealed themselves into a forest casting complicated spells to keep out all other beings. They were believed to be extinct, then myth. They were ruled by a counsel of elders who left behind only one scrap of false literature to throw off their trail. Harry Had looked it up and read it, and along with the knowledge of a certain detainee, this was his understanding:

When the humans were still a new species the goddess created the original letherian to protect them. She was a being of great stability and knowledge of how things worked, but she was unable to form connections much like humans or other animals. She was only a guardian, nothing more. One day she came across a human in need of her assistance, and seeing that she could not help the human with her current form she flew into a great panic; this was her entire being to help this creature.

The goddess saw this and granted the letherian a human form so that her beautiful creature could fulfill its purpose. The letherian did indeed help the human, but was rewarded cruelly. The human took her in the form she had used to save him, and she was born her first litter of kittens. The father god, mate of the one who created the first letherian, saw the changes mixing the beings together had done; he decided that these were far better, and created several more like them. Providing for more then just her own kits waned on the Letherian, and she died soon. But the kittens all grew healthy despite the early departure.

Letherians continued to serve as guardians of the humans intermingling with them from time to time and producing mixes of all different blood levels, that was until the humans began to enslave their catlike protectors. After fighting for several hundred years the letherians withdrew into a wood where they sealed the outside world away. They created the elder counsel that governed them, and they parted from the world for some time.

Harry’s job was originally to pick up a stray cat and Kneazul blend. It turned out to be a letherian half-breed. Her name was Emerald, and she had rather reminded him of Malfoy so far. This made working with her a rather detestable job, and one he was loathing for the moment. She was the detainee which he was so bust glaring at for the moment. She had her feet up on the table in the borrowed muggle interrogation room. He had only caught her a few hours ago. He had gotten the book on letherian myth from Ron who had been more then happy to provide him with the information to back up the girl’s story.

Harry sighed and turned to the redhead who had the day off. It was currently ten at night in muggle North Carolina. His temper sparked as he remembered having to chase the damn brat across the ocean to the United States.

Ron chuckled, “Mate let’s just take her back home and place her in holding there. We’ll figure things out in no time Hermione will want a crack at her to.”

Harry sighed and nodded dragging the door open just as Emerald popped a bubble in her blue gum. She looked up from her position of the chair tilted back, “You know you look better upside down, your hairstyle makes more sense that way.” she stated with half a grin plastered onto her face.

Harry nearly sneered as he whipped his wand about and stunned her before pulling her up and dragging her over to Ron who was already pulling out his portkey. He looked down at the shorter two and shook his head before they all ended up back at the Ministry. Harry handed the girl over to the nearest Aurors and explained she was to be held for an unknown amount of time and that she needed a guard outside the door to keep her in and others out. He then left shooing Ron home to Hermione and ending up at home with Remus and Sirius himself.
