Boy-who-lived who?
Summary: Harry Potter is the boy-who-lived, but not wanting to get hurt when the time came to defeat the dark lord; his parent’s decided became detached from him. They swore they did it for his protection, and not their own, but who really believes that?
Chapter 1
When Harry was four, he came to realize that the relationship he had with his parent’s wasn’t normal. They had never hugged him, kissed him, or gave him a bed night story for him to fall asleep to. Whenever has asked for something to eat they would take him by the hand to his room and leave him there for hours. He didn’t understand what he was doing wrong. While he was growing up, he never even really talked to his parents, because when he did talk to them off handedly, they would ask for a house elf to take care of him. It always happened, even when he wasn’t actually asking for anything.
One night he overheard his parent’s talking in their study about their wonderful new child they were expecting.
He grew excited because then he would have people to play and talk to instead of just the house elves. He was still in diapers, but he was being potty trained by the house elves; however, they even said he wouldn’t need them for long, and when he didn’t it was their duty to leave him to himself. He was afraid of when that time would come, because the only interaction he got was from them, and when they were gone, he would surely grow insane.
He wasn’t exceptionally bright, but he was smart enough to know what he needed and should need from people. He also knew what he didn’t need, and if this continued, he didn’t know what was going to happen.
~*~*9 months*~*~
Harry wiped the tears from his eyes. He finally knew how to go in the potty, and this was the first night that no one except himself was going to be with him. He didn’t want to be alone, and the house elves were leaving him for good. They were told not to talk to him further than what was necessary, and that was only when there was an emergency. He didn’t know how to get his own food or to make it, so he would have to figure out a plan soon or he was in big trouble.
He heard the main door open and excited talking. He went to go see what the big fuss was, so he walked out of his door, and saw his parents walking with a baby carrying thing, and there was a baby in it. His eyes grew wide, and his smile widened. He ran down the stairs, and was bouncing up and down besides his parents.
“Do you think I could see the baby? Oh, what’s its name? Can I play with it? Can I hold him?” said Harry with as much he excitement as a newly big brother could have. They looked down at him, and sighed.
“His name is Godric, and no I don’t think you should hold him, you don’t have a lot of experience with babies.” Said James.
His eyes grew wide and teary. “B-b-b-but I-I-I…”
“No buts, we don’t need any accidents, now get to your room and stay there.” Said Lily.
Harry slowly turned around, and trudged to his room. When he reached his room, he gathered the blankets he had and climbed on top of his mattress and made a cocoon around himself. He cried softly, as not to alert anyone, as if he could gather attention from anyone now. There was a knock on his door, and his tears stopped, and he scrambled out of the mass of blankets. ‘maybe it’s Godric, and he wants to play and be my friend.’ He slightly knew it was dream, but he could still hope. However, when he opened the door, it was his father.
“Look, we’re moving your stuff to another room, so Godric can have enough room for himself. Gather your things within the next fifteen minutes or you won’t have anything to live with.” James said it so offhandedly that Harry wasn’t sure if it was aimed at him. Harry had another dream that it would be connected to someone else’s bedroom so he could talk to them. He ran around his room gathering his blankets, stuffed toys, and his little potty he goes in. He wanted to talk some of his picture books, but he could only grab what he deemed necessary. He also, wanted to get his mattress, but he knew his daddy must’ve gotten another one for him.
James came back and led him to his new room. He was almost jumping for joy at the thought of his soon to be awesome room. They came to a halt, and Harry looked around, wondering where his room was. They were in a hallway, and the only door was the one at the end. This door was very far away from Harry’s, and he wondered what bedrooms were close to his. James opened the door, but he was blocking Harry’s view from his brand new room. James moved and Harry look of excitement dimmed.
His room was linen closet without any shelves. The single light was dangling on a string. Harry looked at James expecting it to be a joke, but when he looked around James was gone. Harry’s eyes began to water. He placed his blankets in a pile, and tried to make it seem comfortable. Harry then placed his stuffed animals on top of his blankets to make a nest. Then he placed his potty in the corner, trying to make it not touch his blankets. His tears came pouring down now, at the thought of sleeping.
At dinner, he tried talking to a house elf, but they ignored him, and kept serving them their dinner. Then he looked across the table at his daddy, mommy, and baby brother. Godric was in between James and Lily, and Harry was at the opposite end of James.
“Mommy, Daddy I was wondering if I could play with Godric later, you know so he won’t get lonely.” They laughed softly, but it wasn’t directed at him. Godric just laughed at the face James was making at him. “He is so adorable,” Lily said quietly. Harry said it louder, and they sighed and turned to him. “Please stop it Harry. You aren’t old enough to play with him,” Lily said.
Harry nodded, and looked at his food. He softly cried, and he heard his parents talking and laughing. They were looking at Godric again. He knew he should be mad at Godric, but he was new and he needed attention like he knew he had when he was young like Godric. When he was finished with his dinner, he knew he should look at some books, just so he wouldn’t be bored. He walked up to his old room, and opened the door and gasped as his lonely gray colored desolate room had been turned into a powder blue nursery. He walked around, and stood in awe at all the new toys, and touched the new blue colored paint. He never had paint like this before. It was so brilliant and vibrant. He turned and looked to where he knew he books should be, but when he looked, they weren’t there. He looked everywhere, but couldn’t find them. He searched frantically, his books were the only things that he was given, even though he had given them to himself, they were still gifts.
He almost ran to his parents study.
“Mummy and daddy, have you seen my bookies?” Harry almost cried out.
“yes, we had to throw out those outdated ragged books. Godric doesn’t need them.” Lily said matter of factly.
“b-b-but t-t-they were m-m-m-m-mine!” stuttered Harry.
“Well you can get new ones. I’m sure you’ve saved money and such from birthdays and Christmas,” Said Lily.
“WHAT MONEY? WHAT GIFTS? WHAT BIRTHDAYS OR CHRISTMAS,” yelled Harry.
“Now, calm down young man. You do not shout in our house,” said James sternly.
Harry looked down and tears streamed down and started to create a puddle beside him.
~*~*5 years later~*~*~
Harry looked around his “room”, he had the same blankets and stuffed animals. All his things were threadbare because he never had enough money to buy any new things. He had been locked in his room by Godric and James Jr... His parents had given birth to another boy, and they named him after James. They both thought Harry was a loser because he never talked to anyone and acted weird all the time. He never actually learned basic things that should’ve been learned in school. He had never been to school because his parents had forgotten to enroll him.
He was glad that he still had his potty from when he was potty training. He had been locked in his room for a number of days, he had lost count. He had been eating the little snacks he had stored beneath his blankets, but he was almost out of snacks so he hoped it wouldn’t take too long for other people to realize he was gone. He hoped to god that Godric and James Jr. hadn’t forgotten about him, because the only people that would maybe realize would be the house elves, but they hadn’t talked to him for a couple of years.
He started singing the alphabet song, so he wouldn’t forget it. He was grateful that he didn’t grow too much in his life, because he would have found it more uncomfortable. When he was five, he found that the house elves had started to forget about him, they would forget to set a place for him at the table and to make enough food for everyone. It had been almost two years since he had anything someone else had made for him. He had no idea why people treated him the way they did, and he thought about it all the time, ever since that day in his parents study. Didn’t they even realize of what they were doing to him? Didn’t they realize that all he needed was a friendly gesture and some human contact? He remembered one time when everyone left for the park right after James Jr. was born, and they had forgotten to tell him. He desperately wanted to go, so he changed into what other change of clothes he had and went to wonder around till he found them.
It was about when he was seven; he had never actually been outside by himself before, so he thought of it as an adventure. He walked around till it was dark, but he found the park finally. His family wasn’t there anymore like he thought they were, but he decided that if he was there he might as well play around on the play structures. He was the only there, he thought. However, his little laughs of joy were heard by a couple and their son. They searched for him; because they were wondering what a child was doing so late, just playing.
When they found him, he was playing on the slide, just coming down and walking it up to slide down again. The woman looked around, hoping to find his parents around. Their son Draco giggled and ran to join him. However, when he came close to Harry, Harry hid from him. He had never met a boy that looked like he wanted to play with him. He had always just had Godric, who was always mean to him, no matter what his age was. He actually had never met anyone outside his family and house elves before. Draco stopped running and asked, “Please, I just wanted to play.” Harry came out from the hidden part of the slide, and smiled at him. “H-h-hi I’m H-H-H-Harry,” said Harry softly.
Draco giggled at his stuttering. “You are cute.” Harry blushed and whispered thanks. Lucius sighed and looked at his wife. He jumped back at the starry eyes she held while she was looking at the children. They had played for about twenty minutes when Draco’s parents called him over and told him it was time to go home. Draco sighed and looked at Harry. Harry was looking at him expectantly, ready for more play. He walked over to Harry and told him it was time for him to go home, but he would be seeing him again, he promised. Harry looked down sadly, but agreed that they would see each other.
Narcissa came over and squatted down and asked him where his parents were. Harry told her that they were at his house. She sighed and decided it was time to leave, but told him if anything happened, he was always greeted at their house, and gave him their address. He smiled and nodded. She kissed his forehead, and he blushed. He had never had that sort of affection before, but he really liked it.
They left, but Harry kept playing, it was well past midnight when he decided it was time for him to stop, but he tried to keep playing for this might be the only chance for him to play at the park. However, there is only a limited amount of game he could play with himself. When he was tired, he went to sit down on a bench, he sighed. He loved being outside, it was a privilege to him to be here, because he knew it wouldn’t come very often. He started to get thirsty, so he went to a fountain and tried to get a drink from it, but it was too tall for him. There was a little spout though, so he drank from that. He was ready to play some more, so he ran around. He got tired fairly quickly, so he climbed underneath a cheese looking block that had a lot of holes in it. He nestled himself, and fell fast asleep. He really loved cheese.
When morning came, Harry got up. Almost forgetting where he was, until he saw where he was sleeping. He jumped up, and was ready to play, until his stomach grumbled, he was severely hungry. He decided it was time to go home. He did, but very slowly wanting to see everything there was to see before he would be stuffed back into the house. His clothes were filthy, but he would always remember that day and Draco. When he came home, he found that no one had realized that he was gone for the whole night. He still had the address that Narcissa had given him. When the time came, he knew he would need to go somewhere.
Back in his room. Ending the song, his mood was very light considering. He grabbed a cracker and munched on it. He smiled at the happy memory. It has been two years since then, and he wondered if Draco and his parents still remembered him, he hoped to god they did. For if they did, he still had a friend, and that made him happy and want to live. He still had to see him again, to keep his promise.
He knew something was wrong. No one had come to get him, his food was gone, and he needed to empty his potty. He started banging on the door, so someone would hear him. Then he heard the door unlock, so he stood up. When the door opened, he was greeted with not of the face of any of his family or a house elf, but that of Draco Malfoy. His eyes widened, and he looked down at himself, he was such a mess.
“Um, what are you doing in our house?” said Draco.
Harry stared, and said, “No, this is my house.”
Draco sneered, “You are mistaken, this is my house, my parents have just bought it from the Potters.”
Harry blushed in anger, ‘so they have actually forgotten me, they didn’t even tell me they were moving. What do I do now?’
Draco looked at his things that he had in his room, “who are you?”
Harry’s heart broke, his lip quivered. “I-I-I-I’m H-Harry P-P-Potter.”
“Well get out of our house. Go to your new house with the rest of your family.” Harry nodded and gathered his things, and dragged everything out of his room. He went to the bathroom and dumped out his potty. Draco watched all the while, waiting for him to be ready and leave. Harry looked at Draco, waiting for any kind of being recognized, but there was none. He sighed and dragged his blankets and stuffed animals. Draco laughed at him, “what a baby, still having stuff animals and a potty.” Harry started to tear up. He walked to the main door, and walked out of his use to be house. He turned around only to have the door slammed in his face.
He didn’t know what to do, didn’t know where to go. He started to panic having no idea where his family would be. He went to the only place he knew would be there. However, when he got there, he was surprised when there wasn’t any park, no jungle gym no swings, nothing. He completely broke down. He had nothing except his blankets, stuffed animals, and potty. He had no money, he didn’t know whether if he even still had his name. No one knew he existed, so he had no name he thought logically.
He walked around and around till it was dark and he ended up by an alley. He sighed as he walked into it, and slide down the wall. He started to cry again, he spotted a large cardboard box; it was larger than his room. So he walked over to it and climbed inside with all the possessions he had.
~*~*~Two years later~*~*~
“Please, may I have some change?” Harry had started begging maybe the week after everyone had abandoned him. He needed to survive, and if this was the way, then he’d take it. He did okay, but when it got rough he would go through the garbage cans for scraps. He had lost all the innocent thoughts he had ever had, he never dreamed, never actually made anything of himself. He was never given any chances; he had never been given any money that he had earned honorably.
He heard a hoot, and saw an owl come and almost ram into him, but it stopped in just enough time to land beside him. It had a letter in its mouth, so he grabbed it and ran back to his humble abode. He hoped he didn’t look too insane with the owl following behind him, expecting payment. He got there, and rummaged through his food and gave the owl a bit of stale bread. He looked at it, and flew away. Harry shrugged and ate it. He ripped open the letter; however, he could hardly read it, but he tried to sound it out anyway.
“Ddddddddeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaar Hhhhhhhharrrrrrrrry Ppppppoooooootteeerrrrr,” he smirked, this wasn’t so bad. He continued reading until he actually realized what this was saying. They wanted him back, and he was going to some school where they’d be. He really wanted to see them again, to ask them why he was treated like a no one. He also wanted to see Draco again, to make him remember him.
He didn’t have enough money to buy anything besides his wand. So that’s what he set out to do. He went to diagon alley and he went straight to Olivander’s wand shop. He didn’t want to get distracted. He got there, when he realized that he didn’t have any wizard money, he had muggle money. He hoped that he would take it though, because that’s all he had.
He walked up to the counter, and asked for a want. Mr. Olivander looked at him and smiled. “ah, I’m so glad to see you finally. It’s a pleasure to meet you. Pray tell, why are you looking like a filthy street rat?”
“Because I am.” Harry stated as a matter of fact.
“Oh dear, oh dear…well it can’t be helped. So right or left hand?”
“I think I’m right handed”
“Alright, here is a wand”
Harry swung it around, but nothing happened. He must’ve swung about one hundred of them, before one that felt just right. It was warm to the touch, and he knew instantly that I was the one. He smiled then Mr. Olivander smiled. “Interesting, very interesting. This is the brother of the wand that gave you that scar. The one that threw the unforgivable curse upon you and you were able to defeat it. “ Harry looked quizzical and then looked very confused. Mr. Olivander wondered, “Do you not know the story of your defeat of the dark lord? Do you not know of your own greatness?” Harry shrugged.
The whole day, Mr. Olivander recited the story everyone knew except Harry himself. He wondered why his parents didn’t want him, if he defeated the dark lord at such a young age. He should have been praised, not shunned. Oh he was definitely going to have a talk to them when he got to school.

Don't worry it will be Draco/Harry.
Tell me how you like...and if you don't then tell what you don't like about it.
