Leave Out All The Rest

Hermione rushed down the damp, dark, dungeon corridor, she had once again lost track of time while in the kitchens promoting S.P.E.W to the poor house elves. It wasn’t there fault they didn’t appreciate her efforts, if they were more educated then they would idolize her, at least that is what she thought. As she approached the door to Professor Snape’s private champers she slowed down as to reduce the amount of noise her feet were making on the cement floor.
She was nearly passed the door when she realized it was partially open, as if waiting for someone. As she inched closer she caught a hint of sound, a song, not quite able to make out the words, she got closer and after peering inside to make sure the coast was clear, she poked her head inside the room. Suddenly, Hermione knew what the song was, and she was a bit surprised, as she listened to the lyrics float toward her ears, serenading them.

When my time comes,
Forget the wrong that I've done
Help me leave behind some
Reasons to be missed
Don't resent me, and when you're feeling empty
Keep me in your memory,
Leave out all the rest, leave out all the rest.

“Professor listens to Linkin Park?” Hermione was a bit surprised. Not only were they a muggle band, but they were more popular with her generation then his. However, that didn’t startle her as much as Professor Snape’s voice did.
“Ms. Granger I assure you that my musical choices are not your business and the band members are indeed magical they simply do not broadcast it.” Said Professor Snape as he appeared in the door way.
Hermione jumped and sputtered, “But how did you…”
“I also assure you that, unlike your friend Mr. Potter, I do not need a map to know where people are. I prefer to get inside their heads.”
Hermione caught on to what he was saying immediately, she knew he was a master at occulumsy. She also knew she would have to sensor her thoughts around him.
“Now, Ms. Granger, let’s discuss what you are doing out and about at this hour.”
“Professor, I’m sorry I was in the kitchens with the house elves and …”
“What you didn’t wolf down enough food at dinner.” Snape cut her off.
“No, Sir that is not why I was there. You see I’m organizing this campaign…”
Again Professor Snape cut his student short, “I am well aware of your campaign of idiocy, Ms. Granger. That, however, is not an excuse for breaking curfew. You have detention for Friday night and 50 points from Gryffindor.”
“Yes, Sir,” Hermione wasn’t surprised; Professor loved deducting points from Gryffindor. But since she had already lost the points she asked him a question, “How do you know the band members are magical?”
“They went to school here. They use pseudonyms now. They don’t want to be recognized, want to keep their secret, at least to the muggle world.”
“Really, that’s amazing. Usually I’m not a fan of them, but since the war… well this song it just means so much.”
“Yes, Ms Granger I am fond of this song for that reason as well,” Snape replied, taken a little off guard. He never suspected any student would think to deep into the music they listened to, but of course this was Hermione.
“Good Night, Professor. I shall see you Friday night for my detention.” Hermione said, starting to feel a bit uncomfortable.
“Yes, Ms. Granger, be here immediately after dinner.” Snape ordered, before closing his door.
Hermione continued her journey to the Gryffindor common rooms, in deep thought. She was really amazed that Professor Snape liked the same song she did. She never thought they would have anything in common, especially since he appeared to hate her so much.
“Deletrius butterbeer,” the girl murmured and climbed in through the whole left by the painting as it swung open to admit her. Hermione went to her room and immediately changed and climbed into bed. She was exhausted and she wished that the elves would listen to her, but the big thing on her mind as she drifted off the sleep was Professor Snape.
