Archives: AFF.net for now. Depending on the reception, I may post it otherwhere. If anyone *wants* to archive it, simply let me know where it's going.
Notes: I'm still not *quite* sure where this came from...but I've been writing little bits and pieces here and there throughout the past six months or so. This doesn't mean that this is a completed story though...I've got two others that are going to have priority right now...or will once the damned writer's block goes away. Anyway...please note this veers *harshly* from all seven books. I am *not* nice to James, Lily, or Peter and am pretty much rewriting the HP universe. Each chapter will have individual warnings, should any apply.

~Timeline: I know full well that the dates I mention here do not match canon HP at all. Example being that Severus was born in 1960...well in this story, he was born in 1970. That will pretty much run rampant throughout this story, so please don't yell at me about it.~

Prologue:

Chapter Warnings: none, surprisingly enough.

~*~*~

Professor Severus Snape of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry knelt somberly by the tiny grave site before him. Behind him, a soothing presence, Lucius Malfoy kept watch for anyone that would try to harm the ex Death Eater, including other Death Eaters. No one knew that he had borne a daughter, and no one would know as long as he lived.

He sighed and gently laid a bouquet of white roses, the tips tinged amethyst purple, in front of the marble gravestone before he reread the scripted words, sorrow clutching at him:

Here Lies Audentia Brianna Eileen Snape
Beloved Daughter
She died much too soon
August 3rd, 1986-September 17th, 1990

"Happy birthday, my little one," murmured Severus as he touched the top of the gravestone before standing and walking away, Lucius a quiet presence beside him as they walked away toward the entrance to the cemetery, and the end of the Apparition Wards. They were in the Malfoy cemetery and it was fiercely protected against would be grave robbers, especially since most of the Malfoys buried here were buried with gold and jewels. His daughter was the only non-blood Malfoy buried here, simply because Lucius had been her godfather and demanded it once they found out she was dead. There was no body in the tiny casket, as she had been cremated and her ashes scattered by the time Lucius and Severus had found out.

"Not to interrupt your brooding," said Lucius as he steered Severus toward the path that led to Malfoy Manor. "But I have something you need to give to the muggle lover."

"Albus? Why?" asked Severus, glad to have something to think about than his dead daughter.

"What do you know of Weasley's position in the Ministry?" asked Lucius. "The son, not the father."

"Percival Weasley...the Ravenclaw that was sorted into Gryffindor?" wondered Severus confused. None of the staff at Hogwarts knew why such an obvious Ravenclaw had been sorted into Gryffindor and no matter what they said to the Sorting Hat, it wouldn't change it's mind.

"Yes, him," said Lucius as he pushed the front doors of his home open and gestured for Severus to enter first. Thankfully, Narcissa wasn't home and was vacationing in France with the lover she thought he didn't know about.

"He works as Fudge's aide," said Severus, head cocked to one side. "And is estranged from his family...surprisingly."

"He disappeared two weeks ago," said Lucius as they reached his study. "The only ones who know of his disappearance are Fudge and his lackey Umbridge."

"Isn't she dead yet?" muttered Severus under his breath as he sat down and Lucius sat down opposite him. "What do you want me to tell Albus?"

"This," said Lucius handing the potions master an envelope. "Inside is enough evidence to prove that Fudge is a recent convert to His side."

"He's a Death Eater now," said Severus as he took the envelope and tucked it in his robe. "I'm guessing inside is also information on the missing Weasley boy."

"I don't know whether to pity the idiot we have as a Minister or join the carnage myself when the Weasleys find out," said Lucius as he steepled his hands together. "What he did to that boy Severus, it's enough to make me rethink my position as spy."

"For or against?" asked Severus, eyes narrowing. If Fudge was abusing his power, it was going to cause a scandal that would somehow backlash onto Potter. Everything backlashed onto that boy nowadays and it was easy to see that he was starting to break under the pressure...especially since his dogfather's death in the Ministry of Magic.

"Against Him simply so that I could torture Fudge," growled Lucius.

"He'll get what he deserves," said Severus as he glanced at his watch. "And I must return to Hogwarts. Albus is strengthening the wards around the castle and is currently hunting down a competent Defense teacher."

"If he doesn't mind the fact that she's barely 20 years old, I may know someone," said Lucius as he stared at the roaring fire in the fireplace. "She's a recent graduate out of Salem Academy in the Colonies. Pure-blood, very smart and very nearly over qualified for the position."

"Her name?" asked Severus intrigued. Salem Academy had the best Defense and Potions curriculum in the world, only outclassed by Hogwarts in Potions and Durmstrang in the Dark Arts. If Albus could look past her age, she'd be an asset to the Hogwarts curriculum.

"Brianna Matthews," said Lucius. "Be wary though Severus. She sent back his enforcers with ease when he tried to recruit her."

"Ah, but I won't be the one going to recruit her," said Severus as he stood and grabbed some Floo powder on the mantle place. "That thankless job belongs to Minerva." He tossed it into the fire, which turned green, and stepped in. "I shall see you next week." He said to Lucius before snapping out his Floo address. "Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Severus Snape's quarters!"

"You, my friend, have no idea what is awaiting you," mused Lucius to himself as his fire turned back to normal. "Hogwarts should be interesting this year."

He stood and made his way to his son's rooms. There was no doubt in his mind that Draco needed to know what to watch out for this year.

Especially with a Weaver's possible attendance.

A/N: Good? Bad? Should I write more or just chuck it all? Reviews would be appreciated...even though I'm bad at leaving them myself. Next chapter however will be up sometime on Friday.
