Vanquish Loneliness
**Throw confetti, everyone! It's a newest fanfic in the Twisted Illusion's series!! I hope you all enjoy it and a fresh new year of reading lots of good fanfics! Now put those drinks down and enjoy!

Draco stood sipping his glass of white wine as he mingled with the crowd of people at the gathering at the Ministry. Yet another picture was taken of the New Minister of Magic and the blonde gave the photographer a brilliant smile. His sharp eyes searching for the Auror he’d been dying to see since Christmas day. Of course he’d seen him around the Ministry, but it was no more than a few glances from across the room, or a quick exchange of words. The new man-in-charge missed his elusive fiancée, even though it had only been a few days.
“So, Minister Malfoy, we’ve heard rumors of your engagement to Head Auror Potter; is it true?” One of the reporters asked him. Skeeter, he thought.
“Yes it’s true. I asked Harry to marry me on October 31st, at the Malfoy Halloween Ball. He agreed, much to my delight. However, I have not been able to see much of him the last month or so what with all of the work to be done at the Ministry. Would happen to know if he’s here tonight? I can’t seem to find him,” Draco asked, flashing her a smile.
“I believe Head Auror Potter mentioned to fellow Auror Weasley that he’d be late tonight. Something about last minute paperwork that needed to be filled out,” Another of the reporters surrounding him answered.
“When is the wedding date set for?”
“Will you have a large wedding?”
“Do you plan on having children anytime soon?”
“Where will your ceremony be held?”
Question erupted around him. Unable to answer them while they continuously asked more questions, he held up his hand, which instantly silenced them.
“We haven’t been able to set a date for the wedding, but I hope it will be before the end of next year. As for a large wedding, I suppose we might have two. The first will be private; family and very close friends only. I would like children eventually, perhaps once we’re settled into our lives a little more. I’m not sure where the wedding will take place, but I’d like one of them to be at the same place I proposed,” Draco said.
“I think that can be arranged,” A familiar voice broke through the crowd, and Draco smiled.
Harry stepped through the throng of reporters to his fiancée's side, placing a kiss on Draco’s pale lips, a smile dazzling the crowd. The blonde’s smile got bigger, as he placed an arm around the tan man’s waist. Once all of the reporters had their questions answered, the couple moved on, greeting others as they went. Draco sneakily pulled his shorter companion into a vacant hallway, kissing him instantly.
“I missed you so much,” Draco said, between kisses.
“Same here,” Harry said, enjoying their contact.
“I’ve been busy,” Draco said, touching Harry’s still-long hair.
“It seems that the new Minister has given me some time off next month. I’ll be able to see you more,” Harry smirked knowingly.
“What a nice guy,” Draco’s lips met the shorter man’s again.

Sighing, a pale man sitting behind his desk ran his hand through almost-white blonde locks. Draco was a little upset. It was almost the new year and he was stuck at work. It seemed like there was twice the paperwork this year, at least compared to last year. Putting his chin in his hand, the blonde let his thoughts wander to what his family might be doing at this moment.
They were probably out in the driveway, the three of them playing with the child-safe holiday sparklers. He could just see the smiles on their faces, the laughter as they waved them in the air. The image made a smile appear on his face. Heaving yet another sigh, the blonde was about to continue his work, when the fireplace flared and he heard Harry’s voice call out to him. Moving to kneel in front of it, he smiled as he saw three faces rather than one.
“What are you three doing?” Draco asked lovingly.
“The kids had something to say to you,” Harry said.
“Happy New Year, Papa!” Their voices were in unison.
Draco laughed. “Happy New Year, my prince and princess. I thought you would be out playing with the sparklers by now.”
“We wanted to see you first, Papa,” Lily said, laughing.
“I wanted to see you too,” Draco said, his smile growing bigger.
“Then why are you complaining?” Harry teased.
“Hush you,” Draco retorted.
“When will you be home?” Lucian asked.
“I’m not sure, but when I’m done with all of my work. If it’s not until late, then we’ll all do something special tomorrow to make up for it. Now, go outside and have fun,” Draco said.
The children were gone, their goodbyes coming from a distance.
“I love you, my dragon,” Harry said, blowing him a kiss.
“I love you too, panther,” Draco said, almost sadly.
His love was gone from the fireplace, leaving the blonde feeling lonely in his empty office.

They had been found making out by one embarrassed, red-faced Ron. Harry’s partner had been sent out to look for them, and he’d come across them in the same hallway. After returning to the party, the entire crowd counted down the last seconds of the year.

“I’ll always love you,” Draco whispered in Harry’s ear as he held him tight.

“I will never, ever leave you, even in death.”

“Happy New Year!” The crowd cried out.
Cheers, confetti and fireworks erupted around them, but neither noticed as Draco was currently sealing his promises with a kiss. As the new year started, Harry was glad that they were starting it together.

Only the faint sound of a quill scratching against parchment broke the eerie silence in Draco’s office. He knew that he wouldn’t have his work done in time for the new year, and he groaned in frustration. Suddenly a loud popping sound nearly startled him out of his seat. There, standing in his office was his very sexy husband, with a bottle of champagne and two glasses in hand. Once they were set on his paper-littered desk, Harry walked around it. Turning his office chair, Harry then straddled his dragon’s lap, kissing him softly. When Draco tried to ask a question he was silenced with a finger pressed to his lips.

“You are my light that keeps away the darkness,” Harry was copying him from their first year together.

As the clock chimed the dawning of the new year, the two were completely oblivious, as they were kissing passionately. Another year of happy memories, sad occasions and a joyous love had come and gone, but a whole new year waited for them to make new ones.

Night The Storyteller: Yeah, I felt the story needed a little drama in it. This one doesn't have that kind of drama, and as they go on their lives will settle down. Lucian may have known about his grandchildren, as the one who had to kill him was the older Harry, but I suppose we will never know the answer to that question. Yep, older Harry is done with the Auror business. He's going to stay home and take care of the twins now, maybe get a different job later on when they go to school.
