Chapter 1
Author’s Notes: It’s been almost a years since I wrote a Harry Potter fanfic, but it didn’t stop me from having occasional plot bunnies hopping around in my head. For some reason they were all centred to some extent around Harry and… Scorpius Malfoy of all wizards. So tell me what you think!
Pairings: main Harry/Scorpius, mentions of Harry/Draco and Harry/Ron
Additional Warnings: bottom!Harry (if we ever get there:), mentions of mpreg, totally screwed-up canon, epilogue, kids, jobs and relationships and mean!Ron (cause someone has to be) and Spoilers.

When Albus Potter and Scorpius Malfoy were Sorted into the same House and became friends Harry fully expected trouble to come knocking on their respective doors. Unsurprisingly, he had no way of knowing that he would be the one to cause it. Indeed, he had no way of knowing that seeing him on a cold winter’s day at King’s Cross, all pale and sick after a life-shattering event that left him on a very low supply of happiness, would make such a strong impression on young Malfoy, that he would carry it through Hogwarts’ years and into adulthood and that his thoughts and wishes would be prominently featuring Harry or that at some point their lives would become so particularly inter-connected.
But there were a lot of things that Harry found himself not knowing as he waved Al good-bye and returned to Grimmuald Place with a heavy heart of someone who had to part with their child for the very first and hardly the last time. But the last eleven years of his life were so strongly dominated by Al’s presence that now he was at a loss as to what to do or where to begin. He had been staying at home ever since he reached his seventh month and he hadn’t gone back to work or, as was the case to look for one, because his husband and his husband’s mother were strongly against it. It should be mentioned, that he rather fell out of favour with his husband’s mother as soon as they became in-laws – the circumstance that was still too painful for Harry to contemplate even years later.
And so, at the age of nineteen Harry Potter found himself hurriedly married, with a baby on its way and, by all accounts, a mere housewife. To this unflattering title was soon added that of a trophy wife (unhelpfully supplied by Daily Prophet’s star reporter) and a bitter realisation and disappointment that followed that his husband was not as fond of him as he once believed him to be and that the friendship forged in times of need and sealed by unforgettable adventures did not stand the test of time and new life circumstances that fell upon them.
Married life and fatherhood were not the bonuses Ron Weasley was looking forward to after the defeat of Voldemort and though caring for Harry a great deal at the time he could not help feeling resentful towards him for saddling him with a baby when barely out of Hogwarts, which naturally led to recurring blame-sessions and unfair accusations. However, there was a material advantage that marriage to Harry brought him and for a time it was enough to smooth some of the roughest angles of his full of unexpected surprises new life and imagine himself to be as much in love with his husband as he was supposed to be.
Whether Harry was ignorant, optimistic or plain stupid to believe that Ron was in love with him is of little consequence because the first seven years of their life sped away in the whirlwind of intense baby-raising and never-ending baby-sitting and it was only later when little Al needed less time looking after him and more time socializing with other little wizards that certain feelings, mainly on Ron’s part, deadened and fell away, leaving Harry cold in bed, lonely in heart and emotionally shaky. It was not to say that they were fighting or being uncooperative – they were friendly enough, sharing meals, small talk, that included such abstract questions as ‘how was your day’ and vague non-committal answers as well as occasional bursts of enthusiasm about the latest Quidditch match.
With Al gone and with the house numb in the aftershocks Harry was sure that he would go mad unless he found himself some sort of employment. But he was out of practice doing anything other than looking after his son for so long that he felt himself to be inadequate for anything else. It didn’t help that Ron shared his point of view on the subject quite vocally, though he surprised Harry next when he suggested that he knew of at least one more thing that Harry was quite good at. But instead of raising Harry’s spirits it soon proved to be a rather humiliating pronouncement when Harry ended up being dragged off to the bedroom that had not seen steamy action from the two of them in months. Of course, it was not a complete waste of effort on Ron’s part, because Harry was gratified to know that it was not all over yet.
At least until the next morning, when Ron said in the process of passing the toast that he wanted a divorce, that he already had all the necessary Ministry papers ready and all Harry had to do was to sign them. Perhaps it was the shock, perhaps the inevitability of what was happening, but Harry signed them then and there without a single word, even though his fingers could barely hold the quill. Ron left soon after that and Harry was left to do nothing but wonder about his life, his son and how and when he was going to break the news to him.
A month after the wreckage of his marriage Harry found out that he was expecting again. Ron, when informed remained stone-faced and unmoved, insisting that it was no longer his concern and that he was not going to be so stupid as to be trapped again, and the conversation soon became one of the most humiliating experiences of Harry’s later life when he was confronted with the happiness of Ron’s reunion with his old time girlfriend Lavender Brown.
When Christmas rolled in, Harry was among anxiously waiting parents to take their first-years home for the holidays. It was that memorable day when Scorpius Malfoy was officially introduced as Al’s best friend, was greeted by an earnest smile that took his breath away and was struck by the appearance of his best friend’s father: all pale and almost ethereal in the mist and snow of December. Such unusual paleness that was not out of place on a Malfoy went in stark contrast with the Potter hair and those emerald-green eyes that were not quite shining when rare rays of winter sun touched them but rather were glittering with something like deep, heart-wrenching sadness.
Scorpius noted with interest he could not quite explain that Mr. Potter spoke very little, held himself very protectively as if ready for an attack and clutched onto Al as inconspicuously as possible so as not to make him uncomfortable by such public displays of fatherly affection. When asked if Al could spend Christmas with the Malfoys he smiled not without irony and gave his consent, but declined the invitation for himself. He and Scorpius’s father were very formal with each other and when they turned to leave Scorpius could swear that his father was none too pleased that his invitation to the elder Potter was rejected.
It was not the last time they met and as the years progressed their meetings frequented in the most unexpected ways.
