Disclaimer:
I do not own Harry Potter and make no money from writing this story.
Beginning of the Year
This idea popped into my head after reading another authors' story. It was written in 2005, and never finished. Of course I am taking the idea and doing something completely different then she did (and adding some sex scenes).
Sorry I have been so slow with updates on my other story, I have been having writers block with that one.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lily walked briskly through the halls after the annual welcome back feast. It was her seventh year, and she felt extremely happy. She had received the honor of being head girl, and she was almost guaranteed a job as an Auror. Students were talking happily amongst themselves, chatting about their summers, and talking to their newest members of house. Lily checked her watch, she had five minutes to get to Dumbledore’s office for the meeting. She waved to her friend Elizabeth, Lizzy, before bounding up the steps.
“Prongs you’ve got five minutes,” Remus warned as he shoved another piece of chocolate cake into his mouth.
“Yeah I know,” James replied taking a sip of his juice. This summer had been a nice, and much needed break for him. Last year he had a hard time with the responsibility of being Captain of the Quidditch team, and school. Now that he was head boy, he knew it would be piled on more, but he felt more ready for it.
“Aren’t you excited?” Sirius asked him raising an eyebrow. “You get to find out who the Head Girl is, maybe it’s Bridget Jenkins,” he said elbowing James in the sides lightly. Bridget was a well known promiscuous girl, and since they shared their own private area together James may get lucky.
“No thanks,” James said rolling his eyes before moving to get out of his chair.
“Maybe it will be Evans,” Peter piped in smirking.
“I hope not,” James said sighing as he adjusted his robes. True he did have a crush on her, but he had been trying to let it go. She was always so mean to him, and all they did was fight. The last thing either of them wanted was to be partners, and spend more time with one another. He was sure Lily would hex him for looking at her wrong.
Remus almost choked on his food, but covered it up trying to act as casual as possible. It didn’t work too well.
“What are you hiding Moony?” James asked him, eying him carefully. He couldn’t hide a thing from them.
“Nothing, I just choked,” Remus said. He already knew that Lily was Head Girl, since they were friends, she had written him, hoping that he possibly got it.
“You know don’t you?” James pressed, and watched Sirius and Peter zero in on him as well.
“Know what?” Remus asked innocently.
“You know who it is!” Sirius exclaimed.
“Tell me Moony,” James pressed before looking over his shoulder at the clock, three minutes.
“I can’t,” Remus replied taking a sip of his water to seem busy.
“Moon-“ James began but was interrupted by Filch.
“You’re going to be late,” the elder man said with a small smirk. “Wouldn’t want a detention on your first day would you?”
James rolled his eyes and gave Remus a nasty glare before hightailing it out of the great hall, as he neared the door, he heard Sirius’ bellowing laugh, and knew Remus had spilled. There was no time for retaliation, and he bounded up the staircase to Dumbledore’s’ office.
Lily glanced around the room at all the other people there. Every head of house was there, as well as their respective students. All that was missing was Gryffindor’s Head Boy. Of course Lily thought to herself as she checked her watch. The meeting started a minute ago. I have to be stuck with the idiot.
She jiggled her foot impatiently, and looked at McGonagall who did not look perturbed, and Dumbledore, who was casually reading the daily prophet and petting his Phoenix, Faux, Besides their breathing, and the ruffling of his paper, the room was dead silent, until footsteps were heard bounding up the steps.
James dove for the door checking his watch, a minute late “Dammnit”, he muttered to himself before opening the door obviously winded. “Sorry,” he muttered looking around the room when he saw Lily sitting next to McGonagall. Great.
Just my damn luck! Lily cursed as James walked into the room. With a huff she crossed her arms over her chest, and stared directly across the room at the bookcase, completely ignoring that James even existed as he took a seat next to her on the couch.
“Evans,” James said with a small nod, looking her over, as he tried to catch his breath.
“Potter,” Lily muttered still not looking in direction.
James rolled his eyes sarcastically, and winked at the Ravenclaw girl who giggled at his actions before turning his attention toward Dumbledore.
So being the head boy and girl of house was definitely going to keep them all busy, but it was going to definitely be rewarding, something they could put on their job resumes. And to get away with more things (a benefit only James would think of).
------------------------------------
Lily was glad that meeting ended when it did, he was way too close for her for her tastes. The last time they had been that close she ended up with ink all over her hair, and she had broken his nose. That was five years ago.
James waited to see if she would even say anything to him when the meeting ended. Nope. She had run out of there like he was a plague. He stopped and chatted with Scott Killborne, Hufflepuffs head boy for a bit about Quidditch before going to find his friends and tell them what happened.
-----------------------------
“PHEOBE!” Lily yelled into the girls dormitory, her temper spilling over. She was beyond angry, could they not find a more sutible head boy? Remus Lupin? Atleast he followed most of the rules, and did well in school. But Potter?
“Phoebe where are you?” Lily called into the room.
“Calm down would ya?” The girl called walking out of the bedroom. Phoebe was a bit shorter then Lily with short brown hair, that was straight, but flipped up slightly at the ends. She was very petite, and some people mistook her for a boy because of her lack of figure, and her choice of hair style.
“No I am about to flip out,” Lily said sitting down on her friends bed with a huff, causing a robe to crumple to the floor.
“What now?” Phoebe asked, trying not to roll her eyes. Her and Lily had been close friends since their fifth year, when Lily stood up for her against a few Slytherin boys. And since they were so close, she knew Lily had a tendency to freak out for no reason.
“The head boy!” Lily said, anger flashing in her eyes before looking out the window to relax, then looked back at Phoebe. “It’s Potter! Why in the world they would choose him?” Lily exclaimed more then asked.
“Really?” the girl asked showing more interest now in Lily’s story, rather than working on unpacking. “Maybe the teachers saw potential.” Phoebe reasoned.
“The potential to make me miserable, and let his friends get away with everything?” Lily asked a bit frustrated.
Of course Lily was going to react like this, but it still bothered Phoebe a bit. “You know he really isn’t that bad. He’s actually a nice guy…” she ventured, then instantly regretted it when she saw Lily’s face.
“Nice? You think he is nice?!” Lily asked before going off into a long rant about how James Potter was not nice, rather he was a stuck up, cocky, bastard.
-----------------------------------
“How could you not of told me?” James asked walking into the boys dormitory, his eyes on Remus.
“I figured you should find out by yourself,” Remus said as he dug around in his trunk for a few of his books to place on his nightstand.
“Thanks, I would have liked a bit of a warning. The minute I arrived all she did was glare at me, and she only said one word to me the whole hour and a half.” James said taking a seat on Sirius’ bed.
“Maybe she will warm up to since you have to spend time together,” Peter said his voice a bit muffled as he leaned over his bed, shoving a box underneath it.
“Hah! Evans? Her warming up has the same chance as Sirius having a steady girlfriend, never going to happen,” James teased, looking over at his best mate, who just smirked.
“Try being mature around her,” Remus offered, since he was friends with her.
“Why should I change for her? And I am pretty mature,” James said with a bit of a scowl.
“Right,” Remus replied as he grabbed a book and began to flip through it.
“Besides, I am over trying to impress and be with her. I wasted too much time and energy on her,” James said and he saw the three skeptical looks he got. “No really. This summer I met a nice girl…and Sirius met all her friends,” James said which caused Sirius to laugh. “And I realized that I don’t need Lily to make me happy. Besides, Letitia Westbrook is starting to look really good, she has grown over the summer.”
“You mean her chest has grown,” Sirius piped in, which caused Remus to roll his eyes and tune the two boys out. He had already heard plenty of this kind of talk, and it tended to bore him.
--------------------------
After a good hour of venting, Lily left Phoebe to unpack, and dared to venture up to her shared area with James. When she opened the door, she felt her shoulders slump when she saw that he was there already lounging on the couch.
“Hey,” James said looking over the edge of the couch at her with his brilliant smile.
“Hi,” Lily said glancing at him momentarily making a beeline for her room.
“Are you excited about this year?” He pressed trying to make casual conversation with her.
“Yeah, I guess,” Lily replied as she neared the few steps for her room. “You?”
“Yeah, though I am not looking forward to homework,” he said watching her climb up the few steps. “Where are you going?”
“My room. I need to unpack.” Lily said before walking in and closing the door behind her.
“Bye…” James said sarcastically before turning back to his Quidditch magazine. This year was going to be full of fun.
