It was not hard to ignore how Sirius' smile was crooked and bitter, or how the usual resounding laughter turned shallow and broken. It's not hard to dance around the subject and just accepted that this thing between them, whatever it was, would never be discussed or grow into something meaningful.
Harry hated that awkward silence when one of them came and the other wasn't and the thrusts had to continue, but it wasn't as desperate or as abrupt any more. Harry knew Sirius hated to acknowledge their acts as something more real than a moment of lost conscience, a mistake.
