Draco held his small boyfriends hand tight. He felt the powerful urge that constantly came with wanting to protect Harry – not because the other boy was almost five inches shorter than him, but also because, ever since their relationship became public, a lot of people showed them that their choice in partners was not accepted.
It had been about two months ago since the first attack occurred, and as soon as it all started, it quickly progressed from there. Harry had come running down to the dungeon and banged on the door of Draco’s private room. Draco saw that tears were streaming down the smaller boys face before he flung himself onto his boyfriend. After he had calmed down, Harry had told him that the older Gryffindor boys had broken into his dorm room and destroyed everything in his trunk. Harry even managed to sob out some of the horrible comments that were vandalized through his books as well. Harry restlessly slept in Draco’s room that night.
And from there everything just became worse. A lot of the sixth and seventh year students for all four houses had taken pleasure in picking on the two boys – from simply knocking them as they walked to class, causing them to drop their books; to violently assaulting them in deserted hallways. Both of them had had their fair share of bruises, cuts and broken bones.
Constantly Harry tried to talk Draco into believing that breaking off their relationship would be the best for everyone, but deep down they knew it wasn’t true – they were the best thing that ever happened to each other.
When they managed to find themselves tucked away from the rest of the school with just each other, the two boys felt whole, complete. It was like they were meant to be together and when they were the whole world felt as though it was at peace.
So whenever Harry brought up his doubts, Draco would hug him and kiss him tenderly reassuring the raven-haired boy that they were meant to be together and stupid bullies would NEVER break them apart.
Harry always felt warm and fuzzy when Draco got all protective and possessive.
Draco and Harry continued on their way down the corridor, passing the odd student when Harry froze. Looking up ahead, four seventh year Slytherin’s turned at the end of their corridor and began headed their way. Draco gave Harry another little comforting squeeze to his hand and kept walking, holding his head high so the other boys knew that he wasn’t scared of them.
He concentrated on the clicking of his and Harry’s shoes, not making eye contact and the two group’s passes without any altercation. Draco felt Harry let out a sigh of relief before he was forcefully yanked away from him.
Spinning around, Draco saw that one of the seventh years had grabbed Harry from behind and was effectively restraining him with an arm around his waist and the other around his neck. Before Draco could pull out his wand or run for help, another one grabbed him, keeping him still with a grip to each upper arm and holding them behind his back.
“Let us go,” Draco growled menacingly and looked directly at the leader – Marcus Flint.
Flint chuckled. “And why would I do that? We’re here to teach you and your little fag boy a lesson.”
The rest of the Slytherin’s laughed and tears began to well up in Harry eyes from the insult.
“We don’t appreciate faggots being their gay selves when other people can see them.”
“Fine!” Draco almost yelled, “We won’t hold hands, just let us go!” he thrashed and struggled trying to escape this tormenters grip.
The four Slytherin’s laughed again. “No. I told you we are going to teach you a lesson…” Flint said as he approached Draco. “So hold still.”
And with that Draco was punched in the stomach. He tried to call out for help but was silenced with another hard hit to his jaw. In front of him the other boy had turned to Harry and began to attack him, keeping most of the blows to Harry’s face and chest.
The Slytherin’s kept beating them for Draco didn’t know how long, until Flint kneed him in the groin and Harry’s arm was brutally twisted until his wrist snapped. Both boys huddled into themselves as – with a few parting insults – the Slytherin’s left.
Draco recovered first and made it over to his crying boyfriend. Being careful of his broken wrist, they held each other until Harry calmed down. Draco petted the mess of raven hair as he saw the damage to the smaller boy’s face. Black eye, bruises on his forehead, split lip and a number of scratches to his right cheek, indicating that the Slytherin must have been wearing a ring on his left hand. Draco could feel he blood throbbing at his own wounds, but thought nothing of it as they continued to lie on the cold hall floor.
It wasn’t until Professor McGonagall found them that they were moved to the hospital wing.
Both boys stayed there over night in a bed next to each other, though Draco spent most of his time beside his boyfriend, comforting him and letting him know that they had each other and shouldn’t worry about the rest of the school.
Dumbledore had walked in on them during the early hours of the evening asking that the boy’s make a report of what had happened and who did this to them, but both boy’s denied everything. It hadn’t taken them long to discover that when they got the bullies in trouble for what they had done, it only became worst next time around.
Dumbledore just nodded sadly and left the boy’s alone. Harry cuddled into Draco.

It had been five day’s since their last attack, and as it was a Saturday Harry and Draco decided to blow off the Hogsmeade visit and remain in the near deserted castle. They confidently held hands as they walked from here to there, stopping occasionally to have a snog session behind a statue or just inside a hidden passage, just because they knew the older students were entertaining themselves in the village thus eliminating the threat.
Draco had organized it with the house elves to have a beautiful picnic lunch out under a tree near the lake. So the couple spent hours together, simply cuddling, being in the presence of each other.
They both walked back into the castle a few hours before everyone else was due to return from Hogsmeade and made their way up the huge staircase that would lead them to the higher levels of the castle. Suddenly a spell was shouted from behind them and Draco went crashing to the ground with the effect of a stunner. Harry watched as his boyfriend fell to the ground, and turned around to see who had done it. Marcus Flint and two of his friends had returned from their trip early and were quickly running towards where Harry was standing, terrified, and Draco had fallen.
