The Truth Specs
The latest WWW product was a huge break through. The Truth Specs allowed the wearer to see through any glamours or spells or anything that altered someone's appearance. They presented this latest invention to their friends and family at the weekly Sunday dinner at the Burrow, a tradition that they had followed rigorously since the end of Voldemort several years earlier. Everyone was so excited that no one noticed a panicked Severus Snape sitting in the corner.
"Let me see them George." Hermione asked as she reached her hand towards the twin.
"Sure," he replied as he handed his invention over knowing that if it passed her inspection than they really were set. She placed the ordinary looking glasses on her face and looked around the room. A gasp was emitted from her mouth and the whole room fell into quiet.
"What is it? Hermione? What did you see?" The twins bombarded her as she removed the specs.
*************
"I just realized that I can't very well test them unless someone is wearing a glamour now can I?" She smiled a cocky grin at them and placed the glasses back on as Fred turned his hair brown and shrunk his nose. She looked at him and saw the real Fred, and with the specs still on she stole a glance to the man sitting in the corner. A man who was normally sallow, and greasy, and completely vile. A man who had a nasty temper and an even nastier personality. A man who had a wicked sense of humor and could take on anyone physically or intellectually. A man who she had been in love with for several years.
Severus Snape felt her eyes fall on him and the gasp that fell from her lips almost made his heart stop. She had seen him. But for some reason she didn't reveal the truth. He looked at the girl and wondered when she had grown up and become a woman. A woman who used to be a bothersome know it all. A woman who had annoying taste in friends. A woman who fought bravely in the sight of absolute fear. A woman who had captured his heart and kept it captive.

The next day Severus was sitting at his desk grading papers when a knock sounded at his door. He called enter and didn't even look up, hoping that the bothersome student would simply leave, too scared to confront the great greasy git, the bat of the dungeons. However, he was not so lucky. A throat cleared and he looked up into a pair of chocolate brown eyes accompanied with a smile that could light a dark room.
"So you care to explain?" She questioned as she sat down and cocked her eyebrow in a fair imitation of him.
"I don't know what you are talking about Miss Granger." He said dignified as he bent his head back down to continue grading papers.
"Cut the crap Severus! I saw through the glasses. Now you care to explain why you have been wearing a glamour all these years?" she demanded.
"Why didn't you say anything last night? Embarrass me in front of your friends? Why bother protecting the evil git? Or do you plan to try and blackmail me?" He pondered.
"I figured you wanted to continue to keep your students intimidated in the class room because then they will work harder. But I don't understand why you have kept it permanent?"
He sighed with gusto and looked up at the young woman sitting in front of him. She had a look in her eye that he had never seen before. It almost looked like...nah it couldn't be...could it?
***********
"Why do you care?" He questioned again, trying to keep his tone level to show her that she had no effect on him whatsoever.
“I… just do. We survived Voldemort. I figure that bonds people. I worry about you. Is that not allowed? I’m sorry for being a decent human being. I just wanted to find out what else you might be hiding. But never mind. I’ll just leave you be.” She stood up and walked towards the door, “and don’t worry. Your secret is safe with me.” She stated as she walked out the door and slammed it shut. Only to open it two seconds later and walk back into the room. Severus had not even flinched through her turbulent exit.
“You know what? I won’t leave you alone.” With bravery that only a true Gryffindor could possess. She stormed around the large desk and pulled him up by his collar. Pulling him towards her body she kissed him with every fiber of her being, trying to relay just how show felt in that one kiss. When she released him his expression was stunned. He was frozen with a look of almost joy on his face. Then his head shimmered and the Severus Snape standing before her was one she had only ever seen once through an invention by the Weasley twins. His greasy hair was greasy no more and actually quite soft to the touch. His ugly teeth were straight and white, allowing for the question of what his smile would look like, to enter her mind. His nose, while remaining the same size, actually fit his face perfectly. His face didn't hold that harsh look that her and every other Hogwarts student had come to associate with him. He actually had laugh lines on his face, making her wonder what he was laughing at. The all around effect revealed a much kinder looking man.

“In honor of revealing the truth, I have a confession to make. I have been in love with you for the past few years.” he mumbled, looking down at his feet. She reached up her hand and cupped his cheek with it as she forced him to look at her.
“I’ve been in love with you since my seventh year. I think it was after I saw all that you had done and why. I knew that someone who would do all that spying and undercover work for a woman who he loved as a child had to have a pent up passion buried in him and something in me wanted to be the one to discover that passion. So I guess I beat you because I have loved you for the past four years.” She looked into his dark black eyes and realized that not only were they actually black but they had specks of silver in them, giving a very interesting effect when looking into his eyes.
He smiled at her words, a real, full-blown smile, one that showed all his teeth and had his eyes lighting up with pure joy.
*************
Later that week, Hermione and Severus stepped through the floo at The Burrow, brushing off the soot and looking around at the audience that had gathered in the living room.
“Who is your frie……oh my gods Severus!” Molly exclaimed as she recognized him. Everyone else was in shock at not only seeing the Potions Master for the first time without a glamour, but also in something other than black.
Hermione looked at him to see his reaction and when their eyes met he gave her a beaming smile. A loud thud was heard from behind the couch, and Ginny giggled as she said “Harry fainted,” laugher erupting throughout the tiny room. Albus entered the room and looked at Severus nodding his approval.
“Glad you finally decided to remove the glamour. It was getting a bit old.” He serenely stated as he pulled out a bag of lemon drops and proceeded to eat them.
