Feet run up the hall
The sound echoes off the stone walls
I see her coming before she arrives
My arms are filled with love
The love of my life
Her head topped with bushy brown hair
She climbs down from me and searches
For any sign of pain or hurt
Her hands touch my neck
Searching for the scar that marks
My years of service to a maniac
And all my sacrifices for the greater good
“Thank the gods you are alright,”
She exclaims, “I can’t believe I almost lost you!”
