Chapter 1
Standing there in the moonlight on the roof of Number 4 Privet Drive was young Harry Potter. He was staring at the moon contemplating his life. Most would think it odd for a boy who supposedly had everything. But for him, it was a common occurrence. This time the only difference was it was his birthday; his thirteenth birthday to be exact.
It was several minutes after midnight on this warm July night. Many stars were invisible because of the streetlights, but Harry could easily spot Draco, the dragon, among the stars. If there was anything Harry enjoyed, it was looking at the stars. They appeared so peaceful from Earth, but Harry knew they were dangerous. Almost like himself, Harry mused.
But at the same time he and the stars weren’t the same. The stars were powerful, beautiful, and twinkled happily. Harry wasn’t happy and hardly remembered a time he ever was; his eyes held no twinkle but instead a dull emptiness. He was weak and far from beautiful. And unlike the stars, nobody would ever love him. His relatives told him so.
Then something streaked across the sky, snapping Harry abruptly from his negative thoughts. It was a shooting star. Closing his eyes, Harry whispered his wish.
“I wish that I had a choice in all this,” he whispered.
Harry opened his eyes and watched as the shooting star disappeared from view, not really believing that his wish would come true. Sure, there was magic, but was a shooting star really magic? It was just something to get his hopes up, Harry knew. There was no way in hell that he would be able to make his choice in his destiny. Dumbledore would do it for him, no matter how much he detested the idea.
With a sorrowful sigh Harry climbed down the ladder and off the roof. Not feeling tired in the least, Harry decided to go for a walk. It was not something he normally did after his nightly stargazing, but for some reason he felt he should go.
There was only the gentlest of breezes that night. The only sound was the chirp of crickets and sometimes the bark of a dog in the distance. He was nearly to Mongolia Crescent when he felt the sudden urge to go into the woods. Confused, he decided to see why. He walked to the woods until he reached a clearly by a river. In the middle of the clearing was a little girl.
The girl seemed to be around eight and her face seemed almost silvery and seemed to glow. Her hair was shining silver and went down to her ankles. She had on a grey and silver dress that covered her hands and feet. It was simple and seemed much to large for her. When she looked up at Harry, her eyes were white; no pupils or anything, just white.
“H-hello?” Harry called to the little girl.
“Hello Harry Potter,” the girl said. Her voice held an almost celestial quality to it, much like her looks did. “I am the Goddess of the Moon. I am here to answer your wish.”
Harry stood there dumbfounded. “My wish?”
“Yes, the one you made on the shooting star. It is not often I do this, but you are one of my children. I will help you, but I must tell you something. You have a choice, you need not wish it. Make the right one, love,” the… Goddess of the Moon said quietly, her eyes boring into Harry’s own.
“What do you mean I’m one of your children?” Harry asked, backing up a step.
The gir- Goddess smiled. “You are one of my children, young Harry Potter. You are special. I would have come and called you here whether you made the wish or not. Accept me, please.”
Harry didn’t know why he said what he did, but he did. “I accept you.”
Her smile widened. She lifted her hand and pointed at Harry. She muttered several words that Harry was sure was Latin. There was then a light burning sensation on the center of his chest right bellow the collarbone. When the burning faded Harry looked down and saw a silver crescent right where the burning occurred. It shown in the light as though it was really silver, yet at the same time it looked as though it was actually his real skin.
He looked up. She was still there, though this time holding out a pendant. Harry took the pendant from her and surveyed it. It was a full moon, all the craters in the exact places they were on the real moon. It too shown with a silvery light.
“That pendant unlocks your powers until your sixteen. At sixteen you will come of age and will have your powers permanently then. It will also make transformations painless,” she explained. “But it will no longer work at sixteen so then your transformations will be as painful as any.”
“Powers? Transformations?” Harry asked, bewildered.
“As a child of the moon you will be a lycan. Better known as a werewolf,” said the Goddess.
“WHAT?” Harry yelled, dropping the pendant.
“Calm down child. All werewolves I handpicked are my children, though I wish they would not turn others that are unworthy to be my children. This is a gift, not a curse as so many may say. They only say it because they are not worthy of such a gift. Only those I have chosen will understand such a gift as this,” said the Goddess.
Harry nodded and picked up the dropped pendant. Does everything have to happen to him, he wondered. At least this time it isn’t something bad. Is it?
“It is nothing bad child,” said the Goddess as though reading his thoughts. “Take care. I must go now to my home.”
With that the Goddess vanished, leaving Harry in the clearing alone clutching the pendant. With only a little hesitation, Harry put on the pendant. When he did so, a silver glow enveloped him for a second before disappearing. It felt as though he was… free. It must be the powers, Harry decided.
It was then that Harry finally felt tired. It was nearly two A.M. and he had to be awake before the Dursley’s so he could fix their breakfast. Silently, he walked to his relatives house, deciding that he would think more on what just occurred when he wasn’t quite so tired.
A/N: The long awaited prequel to ‘Made the Right Choice’! I hope it’s alright. Um… nothing much to say here.
