Supernatural Abyss

As Harry stood in his office at Hogwarts he couldn't believe that he had lived to see his twenty-first birthday a few short months before. It had been such an eventful day to say the least. It was the day that Voldemort had chosen for the final battle. Both sides had taken heavy casualties that day. It was in a field not far from the castle that he had met the dark lord face to face one last time. With hexes and curses flying back and forth around them the pair seemed to notice nothing but each other, their power flaring around them as they prepared to battle. Exhausted and drained of almost all his power Harry did what he thought he would never be able to do, He forgave Tom Riddle. That was it forgiveness. It had been that simple, three little words "I forgive you." and the dark lord was dead a crumpled heap on the battle field.

When word of the dark lords death travled across the battle field Harry could see the remaining Death Eaters as they cast one last hex or curse behind them as they turned and ran from the Order not stopping until they were hidden in the Forbidden Forest. It was then that he himself had passed out only to awaken a week later in the hospital wing and Dumbledore by his side.

After a thorough examination by Madam Pomphry and strict orders not to over exert himself Harry was recieving a run down of what had happened in the week since the battle. Sadly he listend as Dumbledore told him of the casualties the LIGHT had endured. They had lost a good many students including Ginny, Seamus, Crabb, Goyle, and Dean. Along with a number of Hogwarts teachers and staff.

As the days turned into months and the months flowed into years things quietly went back to normal. Well as normal as they could be for the Hero of the Wizarding world. Once the Ministry was through throwing parties in his honour and awarding medals to those who served in the war, Harry even had one offer to take over as the Minister of Magic which he politely turned down in favor of returning to Hogwarts as the DADA proffesor.

It was the pecking of a tawny colored owl on his office window that snapped him out of his trip down memory lane. Going to the window he opened it allowing the obviously tired owl inside. Taking the letter that was attached to the birds leg he set it aside and fetched a few owl treats he had laying on his desk for when Hedwig came back from hunting and gave them to the bird as he gently lifted the bird and placed it on a perch to rest.

Heading back to the window sill he closed the window and retrieved the letter before heading back to his desk, settling himself in his seat. Once he opened the letter and scanned the contents he couldn't believe it and presceded to read it again more slowly this time.

Folding the letter he placed it in his back pocket as he moved stood and moved from behind his desk making his way out of the Dada classroom and down the hall toward his own chambers.

Upon reaching the portrait of merlin that gaurded his personal chambers he told the wizard his password and hurried inside. Where he retrieved his traveling bag from the closet and began filling it with a few sets of clothes, some potions he might need, his passport, and a muggle credit card. Glad that he had let Hermione talk him into getting one the previous year so he wouldn't have to keep going back to Gringotts when he needed money. One swipe of the small plastic card and he could withdraw money from his acount were ever there was an atm.

After he finished packing he shrunk his bag and placed it in his pocket, and headed toward the Great Hall for dinner. Knowing that this was the last meal he would eat in the castle for some time to come.
