Chapter 1

July 1st

Dear Diary,

I feel as no one knows the real me. I mean they actually don’t. They all think that all I care about is knowing everything; they don’t know that I’m actually a mother. Pavarti and Lavender came close to figuring it out once. They saw Ruthie’s picture, but they just assumed that it was me. They don’t realize that it’s her bear I keep on my bed. No one understands that I study all I can so that I can make a better life for us. It’s been so hard leaving her for so long. I’m always afraid she’ll forget who I am. Now that I’m a much bigger target I can’t let anyone find out about her, they’d use her to get to me. Who knows what they would do to her. I’m just glad that Dumbledore is really alive and the whole thing on the tower was faked. I just sent Dumbledore an owl, telling him that I have something important to tell him. I think Ruthie is showing signs of magic so I have to let someone know, I mean what if death-eaters are watching the house? What if they see or feel her magic? I hope that Dumbledore has a place where I can go with her. An owl just came in….dare I read it?




Dear Miss Granger,

I am delighted that you seek my advice. Please come to Hogwarts at your earliest convince. We will have your floo connected to the one in my office in an hour after you have read this. Please pack your belongings for the school year as well, I ask that you stay here the rest of the summer.

Headmaster of Hogwarts.


Shit! He wants me to stay until the end of next year. I’ll have to pack Ruthie’s stuff as well.

I pack everything I think we’ll need and head downstairs.
“Mum, Dad, I got an owl back from the headmaster. He wants me to go to the school and stay until the end of the term. I’ve decided that I’m going to take Ruthie with me”
“What are you going to do with Ruthie while you’re at school? She can’t go to classes with you.” Janet Granger said.
“I’m not sure. I’m not even sure what the headmaster is going to say when he finds out about her.”
“Well if you need anything you know how to get a hold of us.” Janet replied.
“I know mum, Thanks for everything. I’ll send an owl from time to time to let you know how things are going, and we’ll come home as soon as possible.” I said hugging my mum.
“Ruthie, come and say bye to Grandma and Pap.” I yell
Ruthie rushed into the room.
“Bye Mamaw and Pap.” She said hugging her grandparents. Then to her mother
“C’mon mummy go.”
“Alright sweetie,” Hermione said picking her up, “hold on tight.”

Hermione had shrunk her and Ruthie’s belongings and put them into her bag. Hermione grabbed some floo powder stepped into the fire place and said Headmaster of Hogwarts office. When Hermione stepped out of the floo she was surprised to see professor McGonagall there.
“Hello Professor” Hermione said.
“Please Miss Granger call us by our first names. It will get all to confusing over the summer if you don’t.” Minerva said
“Thank you, this is my daughter Ruthie.”
“Hello there little one. We’ve been wondering when we’d be seeing you.” Albus said
“You mean you knew about her?” Hermione asked
“Well the quill and book writes down all the names of magical children that will receive a Hogwarts letter.” Minerva replied.
“So you’ve known about her all this time and you didn’t say anything?”
“We wanted you to come to us on your own.” Minerva said
“Oh” Hermione said at a loss for words.
Ruthie had been squirming so Hermione put her down so she could walk around and explore.
“Headmaster you have to move Potter. He’s going to try to attack on the night of his birthday.” Snape said bursting through the door.
“Please have a seat Severus. Then tell us all about it.” Albus said
“He called his entire inner circle to him,” Snape started to say then he realized that Hermione was sitting there, “Maybe you would like to leave now Miss Granger.”
“I think you can tell us in front of Hermione, Severus. I’ve been thinking of inducting her into the order, and she needs to know what’s going on.”
“Well congratulations Miss Granger.”
“Thank you professor Snape.”
“He started making plans. He’s going to start with the members of Dumbledore’s Army. Then on Potters 17th birthday he’s going to attack him.”
“Well we’ll have to see about getting everyone to headquarters.”
“Hi,” a little voice beside Snape said, “Up” she said with her arms raised up.
“Who are you?” Snape asked Ruthie while picking her up.
“Her name is Ruthie, and she seems to like you.” Minerva said giggling.
“I see that, whose is she?”
“She’s mine Professor.” Hermione said.
“Really Miss Granger, she doesn’t look like a Potter or a Weasley.”
“That’s because she’s not.”
“Hmm which one of the Gryffindor is she?” He said out loud.
“No one from Hogwarts that’s for sure. Don’t try to figure it out it’s none of your business.”
