Prologue: The Letter That Started The Boulder
Prologue: The Letter
The sound of robes whispers softly about the room as the tall elderly man paced his office, the
glowing firelight playing over his face and making his half-moon spectacles shine. The warm light
cast shadows on the troubled man as he turned his back on the fire and sat at his desk. Albus
Dumbledore searched his desk frantically for a piece of parchment, and he winced as he smacked his
burnt hand in the closing desk drawer. Finally, he just summoned a piece with his wand and began to
write.
Dear Prince Koenma,
Two days ago, your ferry girl mistakenly told me of my imminent demise. After I heard that, I have
been growing more and more concerned about my pupils at Hogwarts, and for Harry Potter and his
friends Miss Granger and Mr. Weasley. I’m sure that you know the threat that Voldemort presents to
the wizarding world and the muggle world as well. Once he knows of my death, he will openly attack
everything, including the only boy who can defeat him. I would be eternally grateful if you would
send your best team to protect him, and put my old mind at ease.
Yours Sincerely,
Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore
Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry
The fire suddenly flared brightly, illuminating a beautiful phoenix sleeping in the far corner of the
room. Dumbledore went over to the slumbering bird, and thought about the incident that brought about
his hastily penned letter.
Flashback
Dumbledore was walking towards Hagrid’s house, intending to discuss who would pickup Harry from the
Dursleys later that week. Thinking about who would be the best choice, he wasn’t paying very much
attention to where he was going. He nearly collided into a flying girl with blue hair, who was
wearing a pink kimono. He quickly regained his balance and began to reprimand her.
“Young lady, you really should watch where you’re flying. You could seriously hurt someone flying at
a reckless speed like that!” The girl fell off of her oar in shock.
“How can you see me? Only people whose death is approaching should be able to see me.”
“I’ve never seen you before. Are you a ghost?” She laughed.
“BzztBzzt. Sorry, I’m not a ghost. I am a ferry girl. My job is to guide the spirits of the dead to
the spirit world for judgment.”
“So I’m going to die soon, that’s the reason I can see you?”
“Bingo!”
End Flashback
Dumbledore woke Fawkes and tied the letter to his leg and watched him disappear in a whirlwind of
flames. He walked to his window and looked up at the stars.
“I hope that I have done the right thing for you Harry.”
