Have yourself a merry little Christmas.
Have yourself a merry little Christmas.
Summary: Christmas is a holiday of joy and happiness, giving and receiving and most of all, it’s about the ones you love. Draco spends Christmas eve with the ones he loves.
Draco Malfoy walked softly down the winter white streets as dainty flakes of snow fell from the dark vast sky that was lit up with thousand of twinkling stars. He clutched a bag close to his sides in either hand and flexed his fingers to make sure they were still able to move as the bite of the bitter temperature sliced through his black leather gloves and into the skin of his pale hands.
As he picked up his pace he admired the glistening decorations that where slung in every house window and perched in every driveway lighting up the street and creating a fairytale setting. He watched as a young mother walking swiftly down the road hand in hand with her son stopped to tug the boy’s hat more firmly over his ears and forehead and bring his scarf higher up his nose so it protected the boys face from the freezing temperatures.
He let a small smile grace his features and hoisted the bags further into his grasp so as not to loose hold as his fingers lost all feeling and went numb.
Have yourself a merry little Christmas,
Let your heart be light
From now on,
our troubles will be out of sight
The snow beneath his feet crunched loudly and he felt his socks begin to get soggy as his precious dragon skin boots began to ruin at the bottom. He scowled and muttered beneath his breath and used one of his hands still clutching a bag to hold over his nose and warm the skin on his face for a minute.
A small but homely looking house came into view; it looked quaint and beautiful with the dark roof contrasting nicely with the white stone walls. The curtains at the windows were all shut but there was a golden glow that managed to seep through the drapes and it gave you the immediate feeling of a glowing fire. There was a small porch at the front of the house and a little wooden door stood with glass stained windows. Draco stood at the end of the drive admiring the ground that was covered in white and grinned as he spotted a small apple tree with twinkling fairy lights hung loosely over the branches.
Have yourself a merry little Christmas,
Make the Yule-tide gay,
From now on,
our troubles will be miles away.
He slowly walked up the snow filled driveway, savouring the feeling even as his feet where begging him to be taken into the warmth of this beautiful little bungalow. He stood at the front door looking through the panes of coloured glass into the lit hallway; he put both bags down on the floor and fumbled in his pocket for a key, wincing when he had to pull a glove off to position it properly in the door. The key was surprisingly cold.
The door opened with a soft click and he could immediately hear two excited voices echoing around the hall, he picked up the bags and walked quietly into the house using his foot to close the door behind him. He dumped the bags in the hallway and taking off his gloves and coat went to stand at the living room door, it was open a fraction and he could see the familiar white walls and beige carpet flooded with the lights of the millions of twinkling lights hung around the room.
He looked over at the corner of the room, near the Christmas tree and tears filled his eyes at the sight of the small but perfect tree that stood there gold and ruby red decorations hung hazardless all over it and bright sparkling tinsel that wound round and round it successfully hiding most of the green branches that peaked out from beneath. The fire cracked earnestly by its side providing the room with both light and warmth.
Lastly he let his gaze land on the three people sat huddled on the carpet, wrapping presents and talking excitedly about what would happen tomorrow, tonight was Christmas eve and tomorrow was, obviously every kids most joyous holiday, Christmas.
Here we are as in olden days,
Happy golden days of yore.
Faithful friends who are dear to us
Gather near to us once more.
He smiled as a tear ran slowly down his cheek as the two children, a boy and a girl, both with golden blonde curly hair started squabbling about who should be allowed to wrap their papa Lucius’s present.
Draco didn’t have long to savour the moment as his little girl spotted him leaning against the doorframe and a smile that could fill the whole room lit her cute three years olds face.
‘Daddy daddy daddy daddy’ she screamed suddenly, giving both her mother and elder brother a shock and hurting straight into Draco’s waiting arms. He swung his daughter round and round until they were both laughing happily and then stopped to hug her firmly to his chest, feeling warmth fill him completely as his baby wrapped her small arms tightly around his neck resting her small warm cheek against his own.
He hmph’d when his first born hurtled into his leg and then laughed while using one arm to stroke the young lads head as he bent down to put his other arm around the boy and pick him up as well to spin them all around.
‘Daddy did you get a chicken for dinner tomorrow?’ His son grinned at him as he stopped twirling the three of them around.
‘I got the best chicken in the whole store, it’s out in the hall in a plastic bad do you and your sister want to go and take it into the kitchen for mummy?’
The two children nodded enthusiastically and sprinted off as Draco laid them back on their feet on the carpet.
Through the years
We all will be together,
If the Fates allow
Draco smiled after their small frames and turned around to find his wife standing with her hair splayed loose down her back, a smile on her sweet pink lips and flour spread on both cheeks. Draco never thought she’d looked so beautiful.
‘I’ve been cooking cookies to leave out for Santa tonight, the kids insisted on it.’
Draco smiled and held out his hand to her pulling her close to him when she smiled brightly and accepted his hand and kissed her forehead lovingly, bringing both his hands to her cheeks and brushing away the remains of the flour with his thumbs.
‘I’m so sorry Hermione’
Hermione smiled sadly and put both her hands on his cheeks so he wouldn’t turn away and loose eye contact with her.
‘You know Draco I meant what I said about money doesn’t matter, I don’t care that you lost your job, those people out their who are prejudiced are no better than what they are trying to fight against, you swapped sides, you risked your life for us, so did your father and if they don’t understand that then it’s their problem. This is all I want, just this, you me and the kids. I’m so proud of you honey’
Draco pulled her close to him and wrapped his arms lovingly around her shoulders as she in turn wrapped hers around his back, rubbing it soothingly.
‘It’s going to be a tight Christmas’
‘We’ll manage, the kids could probably do with a few less presents this year, our whole family spoils them so.’
Draco chuckled and kissed the side of Hermione’s head ‘You’re right, last year our parents practically brought them a whole toy store and potter brought our first born a broomstick, the thick ponce!’
Hermione smacked Draco hard on the back but smiled against her will.
Hang a shining star upon the highest bough.
And have yourself A merry little Christmas now.
As both the kids came running back into the room wanting to have a cookie and some warm milk each Draco and Hermione smiled at each other and Draco looked up at the mistletoe hanging suspended above the doorframe.
He smirked at Hermione who in turn rolled her eyes but licked her lips all the same as he bent his head to kiss her lovingly.
‘ewww, mum and dad are kissing’
Draco broke away and smile at his son who had his hands held over his eyes.
He looked back at his wife and tucked a stray curl behind her ear kissing her forehead once more, ‘I love you Mrs Malfoy’
The kids came running in-between the two adults and hung onto their legs as they embraced, Hermione laughed and then looked back up into her brave husbands eyes, ‘And I love you Mr Malfoy, roll on Christmas!’
THE END…
