Mastering Temptation
NOTE TO READERS: This fic is not book compatible, it is very much AU/AR. They players will at times be very much out of character and if you are a stickler for canon then my fics are not going to be entertaining for you. Otherwise, sit back, relax and read away, I hope you enjoy this latest foray into my twisted little brain. :)
Soooo, I found my way back to Severus...I alway do.
CHAPTER ONE: Prologue
“I got it! I got the job!” Hermione screamed as she practically ran to the table where Harry and Ginny were waiting for her.
“What job? What are you so excited about, Mione?” Harry asked staring at Hermione in shock. She never got that excited over anything.
“My dream job Harry! I’m going back to Hogwarts!” She squealed happily and fell into the empty chair.
“You got the Administrative Assistant’s job?” Ginny asked. Hermione nodded enthusiastically and Ginny reached over to hug her. “Oh, congratulations hon!”
“But that means you have to work for Snape?” Harry said.
“Well the job is Administrative Assistant to the Headmaster, and he is the Headmaster.” Hermione said, she would have thought that was obvious enough. But she could see that little furrow forming between his brows that told her Harry wasn’t happy about her new position.
“It was bad enough that you worked for the Malfoys, are you intending to work for all the remaining death eaters?” Harry grouched. He worried about Hermione. He and Ron had both married and settled down and with Ron and his wife living in Romania it was felt it was up to him to look out for her.
“Harry James Potter I am going to ignore that snide little comment because I know you worry about me.” Hermione said, looking at him pointedly. “You know that the Malfoys have changed, well Lucius is still working on it granted, but working for him wasn’t bad. You also know Snape’s story better than any of us.”
“Still, he isn’t going to be happy to see you. He will make you miserable, you know he will.” Harry said. Severus Snape was probably the most unpleasant person Harry had ever known. He was brave and honorable without question, but he was just so unhappy it was exhausting to be near him, and that was if he liked you or didn’t feel anything towards you what so over. Hermione had annoyed the man all through school with her incessant questions and habit of answering questions without being called upon, so Harry figured he would be even less happy about seeing her.
“I can handle Severus Snape.” Hermione said. She wasn’t the same little girl eager to impress the teacher and get perfect marks. She had been intimidated by the brooding professor in her youth, but she would not allow herself to be bullied by him as an adult.
“Why don’t you work for me? I could use someone with a brain, Magda is getting too old and when she isn’t forgetting everything she is falling asleep at her desk.” Harry said.
“For the same reason I quit working for the Malfoys, it is too difficult to work for friends.” She said.
“I still don’t like you calling Draco and his father friends…..” Harry pouted.
“Well, they are and you had better just get used to it.” Hermione said. “What is with him today?” She asked Ginny. Hermione’s close friendship with Draco was a bone of contention between her and Harry. Harry tended to hold on to the past while Hermione preferred to just let it go. He just couldn’t get over the things that happened during the war and give the two men a chance to prove themselves.
“Your guess is as good as mine; he woke up in a bad mood.” Ginny said, caressing the mound of her belly slowly.
“I thought you were supposed to be the hormonal one.” Hermione said, reaching over to lay her hand on Ginny’s belly.
“So did I. I think it is wonderful, Hermione. Snape is no doubt in for quite a shock with you there running things.” Ginny said, smiling and pressing Hermione’s hand into the spot where the baby was kicking.
“I think it’s a bad idea.” Harry muttered. “Nothing good can come of it, watch and see.”
