Temporary

Chapter 1

Letters

Dear Miss Hermione Granger,

As you know after the war with He-who-must-not-be-named, the wizarding population has been wiped down. The ministry has decided that the only way to replenish our numbers is to create a marriage law.
According to this law purebloods will marry muggle borns and half bloods in order to keep people on an equal balance. All wizards and witches seventeen and older, as of the day you receive this letter you have three months to petition the ministry to become engaged. If your engagement is approved by the ministry, you have three months to marry. During the three months of your engagement if you wish to enter a new engagement as long as all parties involved are in agreement then arrangements can be made.
If you do not enter into an engagement within three months you will be placed on a list and the ministry will pair you at random. Thank you for you cooperation.

Best Wishes,

Kingsley Shaklebolt
The Minister of Magic

“FUCK!” Hermione shouted, as she slammed the letter onto the table her parents were eating breakfast on. She covered her mouth and instantly turned a deep crimson realizing what she had just said.

“What is it…” her parents said in unison.

She slid the letter face down to her father, who was in the process of wiping coffee off of his shirt. Her mother came to the table and scanned over the letter.

“Something like this was bound to happen.” she said plainly, fading back to her normal olive complexion.

Hermione’s parents weren’t up to date on the war so explaining this to them would be a feat in itself. “There were so many killed in the war they want to put this marriage law into place so wizards and witches wouldn’t be wiped out,” she explained. Her parents were still reading over the letter.

“Well this is quite serious...” blurted her father. He was scratching his head not knowing what else to say. “So… Must you really go along with this?” he asked with apprehension in his voice.

“Well, it doesn’t look like I have any choice,” she said with the same uneasiness in her voice as her father.

Hermione was tossing the idea of her being married around in her head.

Her mother folded the letter and put it on the table. “How about that Weasley boy, you seem to have a fancy for that one,” she said with a smirk on her face.

“You should see if you can spend the rest of the summer with him since your father and I are going to Cabo San Lucas on vacation.” Hermione’s mother hinted.

Hermione once again turned a deep crimson.

Hermione thought about the idea of Ron being her husband. It was one that she had thought about time and time again. Now that there was this decree set in to place, and the Weasley’s were purebloods, she found this to be one of the best things to happen to her.

“I have to send him a letter.” Hermione said with some excitement in her voice.

She ran to her room to grab her ink bottle and quill.

Draco stared at the letter in his hand. Was the ministry serious? Did they really think that they could make people marry one another just because a few mudbloods had been wiped out? Draco smirked, wait until his father heard about this, Lucius Malfoy would set the ministry straight.

Draco walked up the stairs to his father’s study and knocked on the door. He waited until Lucius told him to enter and went in to sit in the chair across the desk from his father.

“Father” he said, “have you heard about the ministry’s new law?” Draco watched as his father sign the bottom of the document he was poring over with a flourish and looked up at his son.

“I have heard about the new marriage law” Lucius looked at his son sternly, “Your mother and I have decided that we will give you a choice of a muggle born bride.”

Draco looked at his father as though he had grown another head, “Are you saying that I have to marry a mudblo-“

“Firstly, my boy I would take that word out of your vocabulary as I am sure you future wife won’t take kindly to that word and yes you will marry a muggleborn. As I was saying your mother and I have decided that you have until your seventh year starts to present us with a list of acceptable young women.”

Draco looked as though he wanted to murder someone. He stood up to leave the room, he reached the door before his father called him back “If you choose not to do as I have told you, your mother and I will chose a wife for you.”

Draco nodded at his father and walked out of the room. He could not believe that his own father was selling him out! Well at least he got to pick, if his parent picked a girl he might end up with someone like Granger. Draco shivered; he would die before he ended up married to someone like Granger.
