Forbidden Union

“Draco the decision has been made.”

“The decision? Isn’t it MY decision?” Draco was almost yelling, and Lucius was displeased, his thin lips were pressed into a sharp line, his grey eyes glinted dangerously. He had not expected his son to raise his voice; he had thought the boy understood what service to the Dark Lord entailed. Obviously he had once again overestimated his intelligence.

“Of course not. Don’t be foolish.”

“But… father, a vampire? What about the family name? I won’t be able to carry on the bloodline!”

“The arrangements have been made. You will marry, sire a male child, then you will take on the mantle of service to the Dark Lord. You will take The Mark, and you WILL take the bite. The Dark Lord has decided that is how you will serve him best. Perhaps you have not convinced him of your resourcefulness as a human; you have certainly not convinced me!” Lucius was being deliberately cruel. His son was important to him, but the boys continual whining irritated him. “The personality change, the added cunning that will come with the change, is desirable to the Dark Lord in a servant, and if you use the skills well you will find that the benefits may just outweigh the burdens.”

“Benefits! I will be an outcast! I won’t even be accepted in the wizarding world! How can I serve the Dark Lord if other wizards know what I am? I won’t even be able to finish school!” Draco was struggling to calm down. He knew his lack of control was not impressing his father, but the idea that he would be forced to become a vampire horrified him.

“There is a potion which will mask the physical signs, at least for the most part, and also dull the hunger. Severus will brew it for you. It must be taken once a week. You will also need to feed at least once a week at first, but the longer you take the potion, the less your hunger will bother you. Eventually you should be able to make do with once or twice a year. The young Crabbe and Goyle will supply blood to you when you require it. Probably your marks at school will improve with the added potential the change will supply to you. Maybe when you graduate you will not shame the Malfoy name as I have feared.”

Draco stared at the cold eyed man in front of him, unable to believe that this could possibly be true, that his father would ever do this to him, but at the same time knowing it was true, his own father had made great sacrifices to serve the Dark Lord, and he would expect no less of his son.
