All Good Things Come To Him That Wait (aka You Can't Hide From Me)
Harry lay on the bed, gripping whatever he could, as pain after pain ripped through him. He had endured curses and hexes that never hurt this badly. Whatever gave him the idea he could do this alone? The pain passed and he rested again, dreading the next one. The breaks enabled him to return in his mind to the cause of this. As he waited, the memories came flooding back.
It was his job, they had told him. He was prepared to do this; in fact he wanted too. After months of carefully planning, Hermione had figured out exactly what needed to be done to send Harry back to the critical point in history and change it for the better. All contingencies had been planned for, or so they had thought. Being the brave and trusting Gryffindor he was, he took the time turner and placed it around his neck as he had seen Hermione do years ago. Kissing her on the cheek, hugging Ron and glaring at Severus, he then saluted Shacklebolt, his boss, and began the meticulous counting as he turned it. Harry stopped turning and disappeared.
Luckily, he landed as close to the place as they had plotted. It was within acceptable ranges of their computations. He looked around and noticed that not many things had changed from this time to his true time. He knew he had to meet the Headmaster soon and was preparing to head that way when he heard the all too familiar sound he had come to find. It was sort of a cross between a huff and snort and only one man could make that sound and cause Harry inner turmoil - Lucius Malfoy.
Harry turned and found himself face to face with a younger Lucius Malfoy. Harry admired and lusted after the Lucius in his time. This one was one to just drool over. Containing his reactions, he knew the plan had to start sometime, and now was as good as any.
“Lucius Malfoy, what brought you out of the Slytherin Dungeons? Going to warm yourself on a rock?” Harry found it difficult to fall into the arrogant patterns of his father, but knew it was only until his job was finished and he was out of here. If only the other Ministry workers could keep his father out of the way until then.
Lucius Malfoy looked at James Potter closely. It looked like James and sounded like James, only something wasn’t quite right. He’d have to figure this one out and to do that he had to keep this one close. “Why Mr. Potter, are you offering to accompany me to said rock or are you willing to share your warmth with me?”
Harry nearly choked. The man in front of him was no fool. Tom Riddle did not suffer fools nor surround himself with them. What was Lucius up to? “Why Malfoy, one would think you wanted to spend time with me the way you speak. But if you really want, I’ll share my rock with you. It’s sunny there, warm and private. Just what we would need to have to get any peace from your Slytherins and my Gryffindors. What do you say, Lucius?”
To say the blond was startled would be the understatement of the decade. I just had to wait for an answer to see how hard my job was going to be. I didn’t have to wait long. He looked me over quite thoroughly before answering. “Why are you still standing there then brave little Gryffindor? Lead.”
I bounded back to where he was. “Are we trying to keep the rumors down or set the tongues to wagging?” I needed to know how he was going to follow me out, without raising eyebrows.
“Mr. Potter, that’s a little fast and forward even for a Slytherin. If any tongue is going to wag, it will be yours in anticipation.”
I will credit him with one thing. He is the only man I know that can deliver an insult and proposition in the same sentence, and make you want to hear more. “Lucius, I was worried about your reputation. Mine is impeccable and above reproach. I didn’t want to sullen yours with the likes of me. You do have one to maintain in house to keep certain individuals complacent.”
Lucius looked startled that I could hand out a veiled insult in the same manner as he. The blond looked at me again and made that sound again, nearly making me crazy, before he reached out and grabbed my hand, pulling me towards the front doors. “Hurry Potter, dinner is only a couple of hours away and I have things to do before then.” I let him drag me out the front doors and down the steps before he realized he didn’t know where to go and he needed to let me lead.
I took us to my favorite rock. It’s a shame we couldn’t have come here by broom. It would have been faster and given me more time with him. Now to begin the process I was sent here for - to seduce Lucius Malfoy and change him to the side of light. I was actually looking forward to the seduction.
Harry came back from his memories, thrashing as another pain flowed through him and his scream rent the silence. He tried his best to relax, to ease through these pains. He knew more were to come; there was no way to prevent it. He only prayed now that he could withstand them. That pain eased and his memories returned.
That afternoon had been the beginning of the shortest, sweetest affair he ever had. He had set out to seduce. It turned out to be a mutual seduction, both wary at first, but each knowing it was right. He and Lucius would meet; talk of many different things, earning the other’s trust until it was time for Harry to start on the second part of his task. He had to turn Lucius’ loyalty to the side of the Light. It only seemed futile when they made love for the first time and he saw the telltale mark on his Slytherin’s left arm. Harry felt his hope die that day and began a slow withdrawal from the relationship. He knew it would have to end sooner or later, but he had been hoping for more time.
He had kept the Headmaster updated on the progress of the conversion omitting the very private facts and actions. He had learned a few judicious things in his time and sometimes the less others knew the better off he was. When Harry confirmed what the Headmaster had feared, he was informed that he could slow the relationship but they still had to sway Lucius, no matter what was required.
Harry went back to his task, but Lucius could sense something was bothering his Gryffindor. He finally asked Harry about it one day and Harry decided that this was the last time with Lucius, he had to convince him this time to change and then slip back to his own time.
Harry took the blond in his arms, led him to the Room of Requirement and set out to make this as memorable as possible. This would have to be the memories to last his lifetime. He had been warned before coming here that Lucius could never know it had been Harry and not James, the future hinged on it and the success and happiness of the wizarding world.
Harry took his sweet time that night; marking and memorizing ever inch of his lover. His tongue mapped the flat planes of back and chest, tasted the essence of his man, his teeth marked here and there, hands stroked every inch from head to the soles of his feet. Harry had memories to make, a man to convince and a world to save and it all started and ended in this bed tonight. When Lucius could stand no more, he flipped the Gryffindor over and proceeded to emulate every touch he had received. As he prepared Harry for his weeping cock, Harry was sucked back to his real time by another pain.
Harry was sweating now, panting hard and hoping to die soon. He knew now that he couldn’t do this alone, that he really needed Lucius here as they had been and knowing it could never happen. He had sworn a wizard’s oath that it wouldn’t happen no matter what. The pain ebbed and Harry’s mind returned to his last night with Lucius again.
They had discussed the mark on Lucius after Harry had seen it the first time. Harry had used every reason on the blond that it was a bad idea to follow this madman. He told things he probably shouldn’t have, but he would do what he had to to bring Lucius to the Light. Harry held out the ultimate reason, hoping he would never have to resort to that type of blackmail. It was the absolute last-ditch effort in his book; only he knew it would be the truth when he uttered it.
Lucius had made love to Harry that night. It was long, sweet and held the promises of a lifetime. As he lay there curled around his lover, Lucius whispered to Harry. “James. Oh god James. I’ll follow you anywhere you lead me. I’ll do what you want. Take me to whom ever it is that can help us. I can’t risk losing you now. If you leave, I’ll have to follow, if you try to hide, I’ll find you. I can’t let you go now.”
Later, Lucius cleaned them up, dressed them and waited for “James”. Harry went to the door, turned and kissed Lucius again, pouring everything he felt into it, knowing it was the next to last kiss he would have from those succulent lips.
Harry led Lucius to the moving stairway, whispered to the gargoyle and they rode the steps up to Albus’ office. The order to enter was heard before they could knock. This was the one room of the castle Lucius had always tried to avoid; now he had to go inside. They entered and sat in the chairs in front of the Headmaster’s desk. Albus offered them tea or Sherbet Lemon drops. Both men declined the offers and the Headmaster decided he needed to start the ball rolling. “Gentlemen, to what do I owe the pleasure of your company this evening?”
The raven-haired man held the blond’s hand and began the tale and ended with Lucius’ vows. The Headmaster looked at Lucius. “Mr. Malfoy, we know of your association with certain individuals and the oath you took to them. Are you telling me you are willing to risk your life and those close to you for the sake of another man?”
Lucius decided it was time he spoke up. “Headmaster,” he looked at ‘James’, “I have been thinking and remembering since James and I started this relationship. I was gullible when I made those vows to Tom Riddle. I want you to test me with the truth serum to prove once and for all that I mean what I say. I will do what I have to to stay with James and free our world from the lunatic. I thought his ideals were obtainable, but they are not, at least not without much bloodshed and our world cannot survive that. I would do what I can to ensure the future. Please, let’s get this over with tonight and begin showing me what I need to do to help.”
Dumbledore looked to Harry who nodded once. He got the serum and administered it, watching Lucius for any signs. He asked the questions and nodded at the answers. Albus looked back to Harry and nodded. They had agreed that Harry could ask one question before he had to leave. He had thought it out and decided on it before today. Taking a deep breath, he turned to Lucius, and brought the other around to face him.
“Lucius Malfoy. You have heard my declarations to you. Tonight you uttered the same declarations, and more. You told me you loved me. You told me you would do whatever it takes to save our world. You swore you would follow me. Can you now at this minute swear that these statements are true? That you will do what is necessary to save our world including marrying a woman and have offspring if it is required of you? Will you let me go if that is what is needed to save our world? Will you watch over any other spies for the Light and do all that is necessary to protect them? Will you always love me and find me?”
Lucius had started sweating listening to Harry. When his emerald-eyed lover stopped speaking, Lucius fell to his knees in front of him, laid his head in Harry’s lap and cried out. “Yes, James I’ll do what has to be done and I’ll do it for you, no matter what it is, only love me.”
Harry lifted Lucius’ head and kissed him for the last time. “Yes, Lucius. Do what you must, and know you have my heart and love for all time. Now sit back in your chair and rest, love. I know it’s been hard on you tonight.” Harry helped him up, and sat on the chair arm, stroking Lucius’ locks until he finally fell into a deep slumber.
Harry looked at the Headmaster. “You know what I have to do now and I want you to know this goes against every feeling raging through both of us. I will return to where I’m meant to be only after your promise that you will keep him safe, that you will help him through what is to come and make sure he is there for me to at least see in my time. I don’t ask much.” Harry stopped to take a deep breath, staring at Lucius asleep and trusting.
“I have a great deal more to do, but he is the important one in this. I will have to listen to accolades that I won’t deserve. He will be cheated of them. Find a way to make it up to him. I have to go now. Give me a half-hour, contact the others and bring “him” back. You will have to bear witness, as his heart is broken. Help him. Good-bye Albus, I’ll see you in awhile.”
Harry placed a fleeting kiss across the lips he would miss for the rest of his life and left the office at a dead run, never noticing the door opened by itself or the stairs had stilled for him. He made it to the pre-arranged place and started turning the time turner.
Harry came back to the current time amid echoes of his own pain and screams. He felt the pain again and the urge to push was greater than ever. He heard the door open and tried to look over at the intruder. No one was supposed to know he was here and he was in no condition to fight. His body tightened in pain and shock. The pain was expected, the shock was from seeing his Lucius Malfoy striding across the room to him. Lips devoured his scream and arms came around to hold him. When they finally parted, Harry was panting for another reason.
“Lucius, what are you doing here? How did you find me?” Harry had a million questions and didn’t have the energy to go on. He collapsed back on the bed, grabbing for a hand and the sheets as he screamed in agony. Lucius looked at him, quickly dropped his hand and went running to the door. The only thing Harry could hear was Lucius swearing and ordering people around. The next thing he knew, Lucius was back to him, lifting him up and slipping behind him. Harry opened his eyes and looked at the owner of the unfamiliar hands, surprised to Severus Snape examining him most intimately.
“Harry, I love you to distraction, but I still don’t know how you can kill the terror of our world and then try something like this on your own. Don’t you know you could have died by yourself? What would have happened to our child and me? Oh I know it’s mine and we’ll talk later. Let’s get our baby born now.”
Severus looked at both him and Lucius then shook his head. “Potter, do exactly as I tell you; when I tell you. I didn’t suffer this man for all these years just to watch him lose you now. Next time you have a pain, I’m going to need you to push. It’s just fortunate that everything formed properly. From what I hear, you only had Granger’s help with this. Thank gods somebody in the trio has sense and contacted me ahead of time.”
Severus stopped rambling as Harry screamed again and quieted down to a tired whimper. “Push Potter, we can’t do it for you.” Harry heard the command and pushed till he went limp. He tried breathing only to have another pain rip through him and heard the commands again. Another quarter-hour and Harry was near complete collapse, sure he would never make it through. He looked up to Lucius and shook his head. “Lucius, I can’t. I’m too tired. Take care of our baby for me.” Harry melted against Lucius, barely conscious.
Lucius looked to Severus, panic written all over his face. Severus looked at Harry. With grim determination, Severus squared his shoulders, put on his snarky teaching face and got ready. This time as the contraction tore through Harry, Severus barked out at him. “Potter what do you think this is; a rest period? Get off your sorry ass and push now! And don’t stop until I tell you. Soft is what you are. Now PUSH!”
Years of following the Potion Masters commands had Harry calling on strength he didn’t know he had as he pushed and kept pushing. He could feel the movement and knew it was almost over. “Push Potter. Don’t make me get a girl to show you how it’s done.”
Harry’s temper came back and the color flooded his face. Between panting and pushing he did manage to insult Severus. “Stupid ass bat. Girls are built for this the first time. I’d like to see you try this, you’d run back to your dungeon and hide in the rafters.” Harry felt the magic swirling around him now. He gave a final push and felt the baby slide from his body. The only words that he could manage were a very loud “Fuck that hurts” before he passed out.
Severus wrapped the baby in the blanket he’d brought and handed it to Lucius as he pulled out his wand to start the healing spells on Harry. When he was sure Potter was going to live to do this again, he hoped, he went to check Lucius and the baby.
Lucius was staring down at the little miracle in his arms and the other miracle laying against him still. He held the perfect baby in his arms and rocked gently while talking nonsense to the newborn. The baby opened up its eyes and Lucius could only stare in awe. Here he held the perfect blend of he and Harry, a beauty of a wild haired blonde with its other father’s emerald eyes. Harry finally started to stir after half an hour, only to wake to find himself in the same position. Lucius held the baby down on Harry’s chest before kissing him.
“Lucius, our baby. What is it? I never performed that spell.”
Lucius looked surprised for just a minute before replying. “It’s the perfect baby, Harry with your wild hair in my color and your eyes. The world is in trouble. Our little one has your oh so kissable lips, and my royal nose. A combination guaranteed to break many hearts. It’s a good thing her father only bruised one and never broke it.”
Harry looked into the steel gray eyes he had missed. He had seen Lucius in his current time, but tried to avoid him, the pain had been too much and the memories too sweet.
“Her father? We have a daughter? Oh Lucius.” Harry let a hand reach up and pull the Slytherin’s head down for a kiss. When they finally parted Severus decided someone had to be practical.
“Harry you have managed to do it again. You have amazed me once more. In one day, you have destroyed the Dark Lord and tried to deliver your own baby. You lie there like it was nothing now, but you screamed loud enough to make the Death Eaters try to flee their magic restraints. Good move by the way, they managed to incapacitate or kill themselves in the process: less mess for the aurors to roundup. Now, tell me my goddaughter’s name so I can announce her presence to a pacing Albus and Hermione. You two have some things to discuss and the baby will sleep for hours. Harry, you need to rest also, but I know you. Have your talk and then the two of you nap. I’ll be near to hear the baby and take care of her while you sleep this time.’
Harry looked up at Lucius. “I was thinking of Gwyneth Lucille.”
Lucius looked at Harry. “You realize what you’ve done? You named our daughter the pale and fair female version of Lucius? Are you sure Harry?”
Harry nodded. Severus returned it and left the room. Lucius took the baby and placed her in the cradle next to the bed. Scooping Harry up he called for a house elf and ordered the bed changed as well as watching over Master Harry’s baby while he showered. Lucius carried Harry into the bathroom, letting him use the facilities while he started the shower then stripped both of them before stepping into the shower. Lucius carefully bathed Harry, enjoying the feel of his lost lover. He finished the rinsing, helped Harry out and dried them both off before carrying Harry back to the cleaned bed. He dismissed the elf, checked on his daughter and climbed in next to Harry.
Letting Harry get himself comfortable, Lucius waited impatiently. He too had questions running around in his head. Harry sighed and snuggled into the warmth that was Lucius, which he had missed. “Lucius, how did you know and however did you find me? I know I dropped off “radar” for a while on purpose, even Kingsley didn’t know how to reach me. The only ones were Albus and Severus and neither one would tell.”
Lucius sighed. Harry was in for a long explanation. “Harry, do you remember the last day you were in my youth? The vows I made to you? They were true vows Harry. I did exactly what had to be done. No more, no less. I began wondering why “you” wouldn’t talk to me or meet me anymore, no matter how hard I tried. I finally got mad enough that one day I followed “you” to the showers after “your” practice. I watched you strip and start showering. I’d felt your body enough and seen it often enough that something inside of me said something was wrong with the scenery. I waited until “you” were out of the showers but not back to your wand. I grabbed “you” and pinned “you” against the wall. I must say, a knee to the groin wasn’t what I was exactly expecting.” Lucius stopped speaking as he relived that painful memory.
“But then I looked into “your” eyes, only they weren’t “yours” I saw brown eyes looking back at me where there should have been the darkest emerald I had ever seen. I released my hold on the person I was holding, backed away, stammering an apology, which is unheard of for a Malfoy, and tried to piece the puzzle together. I ran from the showers, confused and wandering in a fog. I made it to the dungeons and Severus found me, took me to his room, calmed me down and listened to the whole sordid thing from my side. He already had a version from Albus since he was already acting like a spy of sorts and was trusted. He couldn’t tell me much without changing the future.”
Lucius stopped for a minute letting Harry take it all in before he started again. “I stayed there that night and got totally inebriated. The next morning Albus pulled me into his office, told me what he could and made the cryptic comment that ‘all good things come to them that wait.’ I waited Harry. For nearly twenty years I waited for you. This time I won’t be outfoxed. You never said anything even when you found out about the baby and knew it was mine. I’ve never doubted that the baby was mine.” Lucius stroked a hand over Harry’s tender stomach.
“Do you remember in Albus’ office that last night? You asked that I continue to love you and find you? I swore I would. Here I am, because I had to find you. The puzzle pieces were coming together for me. I realized James was someone who looked like you but with brown eyes. You were born and I knew you were the one to wait for, so I did. I had married Narcissa for all the wrong reasons, but I had Draco so it was an even match as far as I was concerned. I didn’t moan as the DE gangbanged her like the slut she was. She was out of my life.”
Lucius stopped again. This time he placed his lips across those of his “James”. “Harry, never again will you try to pretend to be your father. It was so hard on me, seeing him day in and day out, wanting to hold him, kiss him, ravish him and knowing he wasn’t the one I loved.” He kept the kiss soft and gentle.
“Do you remember the last night we made love in the Room of Requirement? Did you know that ever-so-special room gives you what you need? Do you have any idea of the nights I spent in there reliving the things we said and did? Do you remember I told you then that if you left I would find you? I found you again, my Harry. Never James. Only Harry. I’ve loved you and waited for you for too long. You can’t hide from me. I’ll still find you. I love you Harry.”
Lucius leaned over and feathered a kiss across the lips. Hearing Harry sigh, he knew the young man was asleep, but knew he had heard the last part. Sighing himself, he glanced at their daughter, smiled and curled around Harry.
Neither man heard the Potions Master come in and pick up the fussing newborn. Both missed the gentle kiss to the forehead of the baby and the promised words of protection. But both of them smiled and sighed as Severus began to quietly sing a lullaby as he rocked the little blonde girl in his arms and fed Gwyneth her bottle. ‘Uncle Severus’ burped the future Slytherin and changed her nappy before lying the sleeping baby back in the cradle he spelled into a gentle rocking until the exhausted parents woke up again.
